25.01.2022 Well done to members Valerie and Jo who spoke with Leon Compton on ABC Radio this morning. Great to have the 'report it' message highlighted and to be contributing to positive community solutions. As Jo said: "Be vigilant but not vigilante!"

22.01.2022 A forum titled What can we do to make a difference? was held last Thursday 10th September 2020 by our local Southern Beaches Neighbourhood Watch group. Rebecca White MP, Mayor Vincent, Senior Police Officers, Okines Board Members and representatives of religious groups working in the 7173 postcode made up the audience at Okines Community House. Discussion was on anti-social behaviour, which has troubled some residents and has prompted the formation of our NW group. Insp...ectors Peter Harriss and Ben Duffey answered many questions from the audience and provided insights on areas where action may be taken to make a difference. Two messages came out of the forum. * The first was a diverse, multi talented and committed group of people are available and willing to coordinate their talents to make a difference. * The second was, if something is not right, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. By reporting all incidents to Police, even those which do not require a Police presence, you are contributing to intelligence, gathering on time and place and possibly adding to information which may assist in making a difference. While COVID-19 is making a public meeting to form a larger NW group impossible, the committee have started organising small group gatherings for a CUPPA WITH A COP in the 7173 postcode area. The first was excellent, with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, community members were able to discuss their concerns with Senior Police Officers. Police can be contacted on 131444 or anonymously through crime stoppers on 1800 333 000. See more

20.01.2022 Welcome to Southern Beaches Neighbourhood Watch. Neighbourhood Watch is a community-based crime prevention program which aims to minimise preventable crime and promote closer community ties. By simply getting to know our neighbours, looking out for each other and reporting suspicious activity to police, we can all make a difference. A NH Watch group was active in Dodges Ferry many years ago. Local residents recently formed a new Southern Beaches group in response to communit...y concerns about vandalism, arson, hooning and other criminal behaviour. An initiative of Okines Community House Inc, our group is affiliated with Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania and we will have access to up to date police reports with a particular focus on community awareness and how to report relevant information. If you would like to join the SBNHW group mailing list or help out with the organising committee, please email [email protected] or call Valerie on 0418 124 804. See nhwtas.org.au for more details. Please report suspicious activity to Tasmania Police phone 131 444 (statewide) or anonymously to Crimestoppers 1800 333 000.

19.01.2022 Good Neighbours Create Safer Communities Neighbourhood Watch exists to support our police reduce crime, improve public safety and foster good community relation...ships. We think the mantra "Good Neighbours Create Safer Communities'' is where we all want to be. The high tide will wash this drawing from the sand but the worth of neighbourliness will be preserved the more we embrace it. See more

07.01.2022 Do you know all motorists must slow to 40km/h when passing a stationary or slow moving emergency vehicle with lights flashing? When passing an emergency vehicl...e with lights flashing, all motorists must: > slow to 40km/h (in all speed zones and in both directions unless there is a dividing barrier between you and the emergency vehicle) > give way to emergency workers who are on foot in the immediate vicinity of the emergency vehicle, and > only increase speed when a safe distance from the scene. For further information see: https://www.rsac.tas.gov.au/slow-down-for-emergency-vehicles

04.01.2022 Spread the word amongst all the youth out there
