24.01.2022 St Luke's Bulletin 13th June 2021 Readings: Psalm 20; James 4 Ruth Reflects: Is anyone a one-eyed football supporter? Apparently of the AFL clubs, Richmond and Collingwood have the most one-eyed fans! Supporters that are totally devoted to their club no matter what. They will not be tempted to change their team devotion even if they haven’t won a premiership in years! They love their team; they don the colours, will watch every match and yell loudly to let everyone know w...Continue reading

23.01.2022 St Luke's Bulletin 20th June 2021 Readings: Psalm 9; James 5:1-12 Ruth Reflects:We have been hearing a lot about wisdom as we journey through the book of James. This week I opened the Eternity Magazine and there was an article titled A celebration of wisdom. Here are some reflections this writer had about asking for wisdom If any of you lack wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all, without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5) She says, ...Continue reading

Like Abraham’s wife Sarah, we discover that Isaac’s wife Rebekah is barren. Isaac prays to the Lord and after 20 years of marriage the Lord answers his prayer and she becomes pregnant....Continue reading

20.01.2022 St Luke's Bulletin 7th Feb 2021 Ruth’s 2021 Vision: This time last year I shared with you my 2020 Vision. To see Jesus more clearly, to love Jesus more dearly and to follow Jesus more nearly. This is an ongoing vision, a continual goal. I believe as a church we have been growing to be more like Jesus. The outcome of this should be that we are outward looking, just like he is. So, my 2021 vision is that we will see others more clearly, love others more dearly and invite othe...Continue reading
20.01.2022 St Luke's Bulletin 27th June 2021 Readings: Psalm 130; James 5:13-20 Ruth Reflects:We come to the end of the James today and he finishes with a call to prayer. When we are sick or in trouble James tells us to call out to God and to our brothers and sisters to pray in faith. I have been privileged over the past couple of weeks to anoint two of our parishioners with oil. One was Lois Gamble in the last few days of her life. She received communion, we prayed and she joined me...Continue reading

18.01.2022 St Luke's Bulletin 6th June 2021 vReadings: Psalm 138; James 3:13-18 Ruth Reflects: Are you living the ‘good life’? Remember that English 70’s sitcom? Tom and Barbara Good leave their jobs and try to live a sustainable, self-sufficient life in their own home. A simple life was seen as a good life. In his letter, James suggests that a Christian person shows wisdom by living a ‘good life’. This life involves living out their Christian faith in humility....Continue reading

10.01.2022 St Luke's Bulletin 20th Dec 2020 Ruth reflects on Love the fourth Advent candle: Only 5 sleeps ‘til Christmas! Every year it seems to creep up more quickly, but especially this year there is a sense that we lost a few months when we were in lockdown. While there has been increased stress and anxiety across the world with the pandemic, we have also been forced to slow down, to do things differently and to reflect on the important things in life. For Christians, the most...Continue reading
