20.01.2022 Beautiful day to be working with timber

20.01.2022 Suburban living re-imagined (before and after photos). Designed by architect Emma Scragg and built by SBUILT. Passive climate control measures include cross ventilation through large opening doors and windows, expansive external roof decks to shade internal glass and high R value insulation; providing this typical Brisbane suburban brick home an opportunity to cool down and allow the occupants to relax, breathe and enjoy!

12.01.2022 Here are some concept renderings we are working on for a historical 1905 Woolloongabba cottage in Turrbal Country. Bringing in light and ventilation are key strategies while minimising heat gain and creating privacy from the heavy surrounding development on all sides. More to come...

12.01.2022 The cooling effect of this new deck roof, not to mention the cool microclimate from these beautiful trees #housecathanddave

11.01.2022 Thank you Quinmang, (online Chinese design magazine) for your recent article on the Treehouse. Unfortunately Google translate doesnt quite do the article justice , so here is a visual link to the project

08.01.2022 Beautiful afternoon

07.01.2022 The beginning of a project is generally not insta worthy, set out lines, datum levels, pier holes, it is a slow process with no pretty pictures. However, it is also one of the most critical elements of a project - time taken at this stage ensures accuracy, strength, safety and longevity. Look forward to sharing some of House Cath & Daves Insta photos later down the track.

04.01.2022 Great to have a post occupancy visit at our final project for 2019 today. Designed and built as a 1 bedroom studio for family and work. With views to the local serene park, this stand alone building does double duty as a clinic for our psychologist client and her colleagues. With the Bush park setting as a guide, and our collective interest in sustainability, the robust studio utilises materials that work hard for both work and play.

01.01.2022 1 year today, loved working with Fiona and Sandy. Plenty of natural daylight even on this overcast day #housefiona #sbuilt

01.01.2022 Before and after of todays front deck entrance renovation in Brisbane. A mini makeover that will welcome the owner and her family every time they return home. Look forward to the owner weaving her green thumb magic to soften the surfaces.

01.01.2022 We are at the final design stage for a historical 1905 cottage in Woolloongabba. Whilst the cottage is typical of early 1900s colonial architecture and has some wonderful features, it also has small windows, poor orientation for Brisbane climate and limited interaction with the outdoors. The extension opens the existing house to the rear, and an upper bedroom wing, prioritising opening the space to nature, light and gentle wind whilst maintaining privacy. Woolloongabba, an i...ndigenous word referring to a place to settle disputes, was also known as One Mile Swamp with reeds, waterlilies and wattle. This history inspired the internal garden as a form to bring peace and harmony to everyday living. Located in the space between old and new, the internal garden will be visible and accessible from the upper floor void, the existing cottage and the new extension. This hand drawing by our collaborator Penny Parichart illustrates the relationship and priority between the extensions built form and our need to access nature. We look forward to sharing more

01.01.2022 Grass pavers are a sustainable alternative to traditional driveways with a minimised intervention to the existing landscape, excellent drainage and an opportunity to provide greenscaping to cool the pathway
