20.01.2022 October 2020 marks the 34th Anniversary of the founding of the Seaborn, Broughton & Walford Foundation by the late Dr Rodney Seaborn AO OBE. The Foundation was established in response to a plea to save The Stables Theatre, the home of the Griffin Theatre Company. Over the years, and in Dr Seaborn's lifetime, the Foundation has attracted hundreds of Friends. The Stables in Kings Cross and the Independent Theatre in North Sydney have been saved and restored, a significant Perfo...rming Arts Collection has been established, a Playwrights Award for local writers has been set up and many individuals and groups in the performing arts have been encouraged to apply for and received financial support to enable them to undertake innovative projects. Now in the 4th year in our home at 20 Young Street Neutral Bay, the Foundation has responded to this unprecedented and perplexing year of the pandemic under the leadership of President Peter Lowry OAM. Peter and the Foundation Board responded quickly to the crisis by providing significant financial support for the Actors Benevolent Fund to continue their wonderful work reaching out to distressed folk in the entertainment sector. Our archivists have recently welcomed researchers who have been using our Performing Arts Collection for writing projects and anniversary exhibitions and, throughout the past months, our Seaborn Library, with donated grand piano, has become a valuable accessible and affordable safe space for teaching and small-cast rehearsals. The numbers of our supportive Friends are steadily increasing. Plans are also underway to continue future participation (when it is safe to do so) with community and educational events and entertainment as part of the local North Sydney Council's Seniors and Children's Festivals. Our Friends Newsletter provides information on live and online performances. Although it may not be possible to hold our annual Christmas Party this year, we hope to have a 35th Anniversary celebration in 2021 and, in the meantime, we are investigating how best to share some much-needed 2020 good cheer online. For enquiries or joining/renewing your low-cost Friend's subscription, check our website or ring Carol Martin 99555444. See more

17.01.2022 After a successful event at the Langham in December 2020 attended by many Friends of our Foundation, we have chosen another of these delightful concerts at The Langham Hotel. Amelia Farrugia is one of Australia’s favourite sopranos, who has delighted audiences as the star of a wide range of productions from The Merry Widow to The Phantom of the Opera. With renowned harpist Verna Lee, she will perform a delightful program of enchanting French song.... Sunday 25 April 2021 at 2pm The Langham Hotel, 89-113 Kent Street, Millers Point NSW Tickets $216.00 includes a traditional and delicious English high tea and a glass of champagne Bookings with Carol Martin 9955 5444 https://www.ameliafarrugia.com/
14.01.2022 PACKAGE TO GRANNY delighted children and adults in the Seaborn Library in October last year as part of North Sydney Council's Children's Festival. Unfortunately, COVID 19 spoiled our plans for this delightful opportunity to introduce children to music and puppetry in 2020. However, the intrepid Bridget Bolliger, with her musicians (cellist Umberto Clerici and composer Jim Coyle) and puppetry colleagues Sue Wallace and Steve Coupe assisted by Kay Yasugi), brought PACKAGE TO GRANNY magic to the Southern Highlands recently - with the assistance of a Grant from the SEABORN, BROUGHTON & WALFORD FOUNDATION.
13.01.2022 WORLD OPERA DAY 25th October - Roses - especially for the divas in a difficult year. Our Seaborn Library with its baby grand piano and favourable acoustic, was the venue chosen by one of Australia's favourite divas, Amelia Farrugia to prepare for OQ's An Aria a Day initiative - accompanied by multi-talented singer/vocal coach/pianist Donna Balson who also contributed her own video to the project. The Seaborn Library has welcomed both Amelia and Donna who have been teaching and coaching established and aspiring young singers during this perplexing year. We believe that the late Dr Seaborn, whose photo can be seen on the right, would be absolutely delighted.
12.01.2022 Congratulations to the STC for opening the Roslyn Packer Theatre with 'Wonnangatta' by Angus Cerini - currently playing until October 24 . There are limited tickets for a masked, socially-distanced audience. But theatre lovers won't be disappointed. This is a masterclass in brilliant acting.
08.01.2022 Thank you Guy Noble for bringing us hope, a song and some comedy during this difficult time for the performing arts.
