25.01.2022 ...and for those people asking about the Spring Fair hosted by the Maleny Garden Club, here's the link to their page https://malenygardenclub.org//MGC-Spring-Fair-Program-V4.p

25.01.2022 Welcome to Tuesday on the Coast. Don't you love the majesty of elephants? Today is Elephant Appreciation Day and thankfully steps are being taken to save these wonderful animals. Back on this day in 1985, the first of a series of concerts was held in the USA to support rural families. Today we'll take a triple play from the 3 key organisers. Do you know who they are? I'll also play one of the best from The Supremes recorded on this day in 1965 and we'll hear from Nik with our Pets of the Week! Have a happy day!

25.01.2022 F Troop aired for the first time on this day in 1965. Love that show and love this scene where we learnt how Herkawi tribe got its name. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYkUNuMD8pc

24.01.2022 Right now on the Garden Show with Penny, we will be talking about Bauhinia (Picture 1 & 3) and rhaphiolepis (Picture 2) and Penny will answer a few questions!

24.01.2022 Today is Make Your Bed Day! I personally struggle to see the point as you just mess it up again however my lovely wife Leonne disagrees with me. The bed has to be made perfectly each day! According to a BBC report however it is healthier to leave your bed unmade - "Leaving the bed unmade, according to scientists who spoke with the BBC, allows the million or so dust mites who share the sack with you every night to die off. " What do you think?? Today, late in the evening Australian time, was when the horrific 9/11 attacks occurred in the USA in 2001. We remember the people who lost their lives and the courageous emergency service personnel who lost their lives trying to save them.

24.01.2022 Welcome to Monday and welcome to the Coast if you are here on school holidays. Today I'll play for you a song that features today's date, we'll celebrate the birthday of a member of the Eagles and remember a television series fictional Los Angeles criminal-defense lawyer that premiered on this day in 1957. Here's to a great week.

24.01.2022 Sunshine FM proudly supports Bras n Bikes Charity Ride.

23.01.2022 Back on this day in 1967, which band member of which group rigged his bass drum to explode at the end of a high energy rock song during the group's appearance on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, but he doesn't realize that the stage crew has already set the charge. The resulting explosion cuts his leg, singes the lead singers hair, and startles fellow guests Bette Davis and Mickey Rooney? I'll tell you more during the show this morning. How are you dealing with swooping magpies. A mate of mine Clinton from Maryborough shared this photo from near his place. He called it a meeting of the fighter squadron. Probably a good place to steer clear of. Have a great day!

23.01.2022 Join Rebecca and Penny for the Garden Show tomorrow from 8am. To get you in the mood, here are some shots taken today at the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers.

22.01.2022 Do you remember this band from the 60's? The late Darryl Cotton was their lead singer. We'll play a song tonight that they recorded in 1969. Today, the movie Slim and I is released at the cinema telling the story of Slim Dusty and his wife Joy McKean. Remember "The Pub With No Beer". He followed it up with the answer and sequel songs. Tonight we'll feature the Answer song. Remember when the television would take 5 minutes to warm up before you got a picture? Then you're definitely a Baby Boomer. Join us tonight for 2 hours of great music and information from a generation that won't be forgotten on Bob and the Baby Boomers on 104.9 Sunshine FM.

22.01.2022 Very sad news that Dean Jones the Australian cricketer has died of a heart attack in India while on commentary duty for the Indian Premier League. He was with Brett Lee who tried to revive him unsuccessfully. RIP Deano. A truly great Australian.

19.01.2022 Happy Thursday with a few showers forecast late in the day otherwise it will be fine. Back on this day in 1962, the BBC banned a song that was subsequently re released in 1973 and became a worldwide hit. The photo is of the singer of that song. I'll play that this morning. We'll also do all the usual things we do and talk fishing with Mark Planck.

18.01.2022 It's another Wednesday and we're talking to Leanne Layfield from the 4556 Chamber of Commerce today. Today I'll play for you the number 1 song in the country on this day in 1966 for an English lady who had several hits here in Oz. You're clue - stay awake! Have a great day! Don't forget to join Rebecca for Sunshine Country tonight from 8.

Tonight on the Rock Show, it is the M - Z of Oz Rock with nothing but great Aussie Rock Artists whose names fall in the latter part of the alphabet. We'll kick it off with the Masters Apprentices and finish it with Zoot who, incidentally, are reforming for a concert to celebrate 50 years since the band broke up.

15.01.2022 Do you think you know the lady pictured? She had a number of hits in the 60's and is now 95 years old. And it's not Petula Clark. Her real name is Eva Sue McKee. 13.01.2022 It's 65 years ago today since James Dean (pictured) died in a car accident in 1955 at just 24. We also lost an Australian icon this week with the death of Helen... Reddy and Mac Davis who died on the same day this week. He had a couple of hit songs including "Hard To Be Humble" and wrote songs for Elvis Presley. On a brighter note, we have some great music once again tonight on Bob and the Baby Boomers, including an Aussie two up from Col Joye and Johnny O'Keefe. There'll be information about the numerous health problems of a young girl growing up who became "The Queen Of Motown". And a Kiwi/Aussie with a song about Johnny who is best known for his big hit in 1958 with a revival of a Lloyd Price song "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" which sold over 100,000 copies. All this and more, tonight on Bob and the Baby Boomers from 8.00pm on 104.9 Sunshine FM See more

12.01.2022 Are you ready for another challenge?? The pictured artist originally recorded under the name of Corky Jones when he released "Hot Dog" in September 1956. He then re-released the single in 1961 and used his correct name. Who is it? A clue is, he released a song that was not "Made in Australia" and another song about an "unusual holiday". I'll give you the answers when I play Hot Dog tonight. Plenty of great music from the 50's and 60's coming up tonight on Bob and the Baby Boomers, including some rare ones as well. And I'll complete the night with Patsy Cline and Johnny Ray. Join me tonight from 8.00pm for 2 hours of music memories on 104.9 Sunshine FM

10.01.2022 The artist pictured was born in 1918 and died in 2009 at age 91. He developed a fondness to country music following an accident in his childhood where he learnt guitar during his recovery. He had 70 chart singles in his career including two #1 hits. I'll play his signature song tonight which was a hit for him in Australia in 1960. The song is listed as the second most successful country single of the rock and roll era at Billboards 100th anniversary. Any idea? Last week I rec...eived great feedback when Billy Fury was the pictured artist and one comment from a listener that her favourite by Billy Fury was the song "I Will". I'll play that track tonight. Also more fabulous music memories from the 50's & 60's again tonight from Jay & The Americans, The String-A-Longs, Crash Craddock and a classic instrumental from 1963 by Kai Winding. Join me tonight for "Bob and the Baby Boomers" from 8.00pm for 2 hours of "Music From A Generation" on 104.9 Sunshine FM See more

How many of you bought their albums? What TV shows did you watch as you grew up in the 60's? Perhaps it was F Troop, Gidget, Bronco, Cheyenne, The Rifleman or Shenandoah? We also had Combat, McHales Navy, Gomer Pyle USMC, Greenacres and Casey Jones. Tonight on Bob and the Baby Boomers I'll play the intro to one of these TV shows.
