25.01.2022 WE PROTECT THE IRREPLACABLE | PERSON RESCUED FROM SYDNEY UNIT FIRE Yesterday, Friday 18/09/2020, at approximately 7:48pm, Fire and Rescue NSW was notified of an... Automatic Fire Alarm activation at an address in Woolloomooloo. 'C' Platoon crews from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 004 Darlinghurst and 001 City of Sydney responded. Crews arrived within 4 minutes and numerous 000 calls were starting to be taken by our Sydney Communications Centre, reporting a top floor unit was on fire with multiple people reportedly trapped. This incident was subsequently upgraded to a Structure Fire 3rd Alarm due to the size of the fire and resources needed to combat this. One person was rescued by Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters and was treated and transported by NSW Ambulance. The unit involved in the fire was severly damaged by fire, however other units, which shared a common roofspace, were saved due to the fast response and hard work of firefighters. The following footage, is depicted by two of 001 City of Sydney firefighters, both wearing GoPro's, to give you a different Point-Of-View (POV) look on what roles Firefighters and Station Officers play at a large scale incident. As you will see, firefighting is an inherently dangerous and dirty occupation, however throughout the whole incident, our crews remained safe and perform their individual roles to a high standard. Our mission at Fire and Rescue NSW is to protect the irreplacable, and last night our 'C' Platoon crews did exactly that. Yet another great save.

23.01.2022 Yesterday at 4:30 pm, NSW fire rescue station Scarborough responded to a single-vehicle MVA on the seacliff bridge. The passenger of the Ford ute sustained a serious trauma injury and was airlifted off the bridge. The road was shut for quite some time since road crash investigations were carried out, then the site was cleaned and restored to a safe driving condition. Remember, in an emergency please keep left so emergency services are not blocked in their approach to an incident. Toll Ambulance Rescue, NSW Police Force, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command - NSW Police Force and NSW Ambulance were in attendance.

23.01.2022 It was 50 years ago last month, 19 June 1970 that the current Scarborough Fire Station was officially opened. While the brigade dates to 1929 it was in 1970 tha...t a new station was erected. The station became operational on 7 April 1970 and in 2009 received an upgrade. 20.01.2022 Flooding Station 442 responded to reports of a motor vehicle stuck in floodwater on LHD Coalcliff. Remember to never to drive through flood water no matter how well you know the road. This weather is expected to continue for the next 48hrs so please, allow extra time for travel, d...rive to the conditions, and do not enter floodwater. #staysafe #preparedforanything

19.01.2022 For this week’s #FlashbackFriday we will be sharing the story of former retained firefighter, Adriana Mugica. In 1993, Adriana joined Wauchope Brigade as the un...it’s first female firefighter. It is important to note that women were only admitted into the NSW Fire Brigade from 1985. Interestingly, Wauchope was the first unit in the North 5 Zone to become rescue accredited, paving the way for Adriana’s next ‘first’. Just two years after joining Wauchope Brigade, she successfully undertook the State Rescue Board’s Rescue Operator Assessment, becoming the first female to be accredited in primary rescue operations. At the time, assessment subjects included hydraulics, rescue scene assessment, winches/chain pull set, cutting equipment, theory examination, patient packaging, air equipment, generators, and cordage. In a personal letter to Adriana, former Commissioner Ian MacDougall congratulated her on this accomplishment, noting you now have an enduring place in our history. Although rescue has been at the core of FRNSW efforts for the past century, it has evolved over the years with an increased focus on accreditation. Currently, the service has 182 accredited rescue units (and 1,853 specialised rescue operators) that assist with incidents such as motor vehicle accident rescue, animal rescue, and fire rescue. This number continues to grow. [: Adriana Mugica, 1995] #FlashbackFriday #History #FRNSW #Museum #Penrith #VisitPenrith #Wauchope Fire and Rescue NSW

16.01.2022 LONG JETTY | Fire and Rescue crews attended a house fire in Long Jetty yesterday morning. It is believed the fire started from an overloaded power board which ...caught alight and destroyed the bedroom of an elderly man. This photo is from another bedroom inside the home that had a similar issue with the power board overloaded. In winter, with the added use of heaters and electric blankets it is especially important not to overload power boards and to only use power boards with built in safety switches. 15.01.2022 Come with us for a crawling stumble through a fire- ‘cause let’s face it, it’s not like the movies. It’s so hot you can’t stand, the smoke and the steam obscure... you vision. Your hose line gets held up on a multitude of unidentifiable items and your partner is scanning with a thermal imaging camera behind you as you work your way forward. We’re looking for the seat of the fire, and we’re doing search and rescue at the same time; and sending a conditions report to the Incident Controller because all the pieces of information from every crew give them a greater understanding of the fire behaviour we are seeing. If you are in there, we are looking for you. If it’s your home or business, we’re trying to save it. Help us out. Put in some smoke detectors, keep looking when cooking, don’t put anything closer than a meter to the heater and make an evacuation plan- please, make sure this winter you know the risks. #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #firesafety #winterfiresafety #firefighter #firetruck #frnsw #turningout

10.01.2022 At 10:00 am today fire rescue NSW will be conducting controlled pile burns on Chellowdene Avenue Stanwell park, so don't be alarmed if you see smoke coming from this area. The purpose of this burn is to rid the area of any potential fuel or unnecessary vegetation so if a bushfire occurs it does not have the fuel to start or burn. Some pile burns conducted in helensburgh on Saturday.

10.01.2022 Last week marked the beginning of a roll out of new and improved uniforms for Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters across the state. The new personal protect...ive clothing has been specially designed to offer maximum comfort and protection for firefighters working to protect the irreplaceable. While heavy-duty, the uniforms are light weight and will allow for enhanced maneuverability and coverage. They will also be supplied in a wider range of male and female sizes to ensure all firefighters have better fitting garments. This is the first stage of the roll out which will eventually see the replacement of all personal protective clothing for all firefighters across the state. Watch the video below for more information from Commissioner Paul Baxter. #FRNSW #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #MoreThanFire #PreparedForAnything
