The Scarborough Lights up Redcliffe Group was created in 2006 by Beth Reid and Glyn...n Davies to ‘Bring Back that Old-Fashioned Christmas Spirit. Since then, the Scarborough Lights volunteer committee, led by Sue and Danny White, has lit up Scarborough Seaside Village every Christmas/New Year period with its Christmas Trees and Crystal Rain Lights Display that lined Landsborough Avenue, funded through sponsorships from businesses from right across the Redcliffe Peninsula. Scarborough Lights also helped fund the supply and installation of some of the permanent Fairy Lights in trees that line the Village. This support, combined with support from Moreton Bay Regional Council and Moreton Bay Industry and Tourism (MBRIT), has also enabled the volunteers to organise numerous Christmas and New Years Eve events over the years, which included Christmas Street Parades, Market Stalls, Carnivals, Fireworks, Christmas Carols and stage events. In 2010 Scarborough Lights won the Australia Day Award for ‘Best Community Event’. In more recent years MBRIT has taken over the staging of the events, with Scarborough Lights continuing to organise the Christmas Lights Display. Last year in 2018, through its sponsorship from businesses, Council and MBRIT, Scarborough Lights organised the installation of the Christmas Lights in the HUGE 35 metre tall Norfolk Pine Tree in Scarborough Beach Park. Due to the high cost of insurance, ongoing maintenance, installation and removal of the Crystal Rain Lights Display and Norfolk Pine Christmas Tree Lights, the Scarborough Lights Committee have decided to hand over all activities to Council and MBRIT. The Christmas decorations in the Norfolk Pine in Scarborough Beach Park this year will be installed in time for MBRIT’s Scarborough Christmas Carols Event happening this Sunday 8th Dec 3pm-8pm We would like to thank all of our sponsors, volunteers and supporters over the years, and enjoyed bringing a little *magic* to the Redcliffe Peninsula over the Festive Season these past 13 years.
