25.01.2022 Sex Worker Pride began in 2019, and is an opportunity to celebrate and share stories of sex workers self-determination and the achievements of the sex worker rights movement. Sex Worker Pride extends to all marginalised by criminalisation, discrimination and stigma across the sex worker movement and celebrates the diversity within our community during International Sex Worker Pride. Will you join respect in supporting @The_Debbys sex worker story telling online event to c...elebrate sex workers, self-determination & visibility Tickets are available now!
25.01.2022 We want to thank every one who has been donating to the sex worker emergency relief fund. These donations have helped keep members of our community housed and fed during COVID-19. After each weeks pay outs our balance returns to zero. Last week we had over 50 applicants and less than $1500 in donations. We recognise that this is a hard time for many - but if you are able to, please help us support workers with no access to government support who are not yet able to return to work. With love <3 https://chuffed.org/project/sex-worker-support

23.01.2022 On Thursday December 10th, Scarlet Alliance and our state and territory member organisations will host 'Ahead of the Curve: Sex Work and COVID-19 in Australia'. This event will launch our report 'COVID-19 and Sex Work in Australia' and provide us with an opportunity to speak to the urgent law and regulatory reforms needed to prevent further damage to the sex worker community in this and future public health emergencies. To join us, register at https://zoom.us/webinar/registe...r/WN_FdluYTbnRUOq-0n3CI3D0A This event is for policymakers at the state, territory and federal levels, health practitioners, community legal and justice centres, unionists, people with an interest in welfare and human rights, sexual health academics, and everyone with an interest in the lessons of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The impact of poor policymaking is always felt by sex workers. During COVID-19, discrimination, criminalisation, misuse of police powers, lack of access to welfare and crisis financial support, barriers to justice and online marginalisation is acute and unrelenting. Though borders are re-opening, and the spread of COVID-19 is easing in Australia, social and economic disparities will continue to intensify. Sex workers are facing housing insecurity, lack of money for the basics, advertising bans, and clients having less money to spend in the face of a recession. These impacts, set against the backdrop of ongoing criminalisation of our work and workplaces and discrimination and exclusion from a number of welfare programs, leaves sex workers in an increasingly precarious position, and, the bills keep coming in. Sex worker organisations are working with this landscape daily and have been working tirelessly to support sex workers though a time of systemic neglect from governments. How do we learn from the fallout at the intersection of a pandemic and ongoing bad policy and make vital legislative changes to prevent it from happening again? How can sex workers, now and in the future, be more assured of inclusion in government policy responses to health? What conclusions are sex worker organisations drawing from the pandemic, and what support and collaboration do we need from governments, policymakers, and the health and justice sectors to turn these lessons into meaningful change for sex workers?
23.01.2022 With your help the sex worker emergency relief fund has raised over $125,000. Each week we pay out 100% of the weeks donations and our balance returns to ZERO COVID-19 has brought about an unprecedented impact on sex workers. Many sex workers in Victoria have not been able to work since March. We are trying to support as many workers as we can each week, who are not able to access any government support. We are never able to meet the full need of community. Please help ...us continue to help workers maintain housing, buy food and basic items, support their dependents, and access healthcare and prescriptions. 22.01.2022 Beautiful work and words, Rosa. We acknowledge and grieve for the lives lost to violence against transgender people this year, disproportionately experienced by trans women of colour. Whether inflicted by individuals or by the state, overtly or covertly, it is all grounded in systemic transphobia. We acknowledge the vibrance and resilience of trans and gender non-conforming people and extend our love and care to all of you, especially those who are or have been a part of the sex worker community. #TDOR2020

18.01.2022 Sex workers, like most workers, have diverse feelings about their work. Some sex workers dislike their work but find that it is their best or only option to make a living. Some are agnostic about their work but find that it offers flexibility or good pay. And some enjoy the work and find it all around rewarding or fun. Regardless of what sex workers think about their work, they deserve workplace health and safety and human rights. COVID-19 has brought about an unprecedented i...mpact on sex workers. Restrictions remain for sex workers in some jurisdictions and sex workers have been targeted for fines and penalties. In many cases sex workers have had incomes stop completely or significantly diminish. Loss of income has directly impacted on sex workers ability to maintain housing, buy food and basic items, support their dependents, and access healthcare and prescriptions. Please help us to continue to provide emergency relief for sex workers in Australia who do not meet eligibility criteria for government or other financial support or unable to meet government requirements. https://chuffed.org/project/sex-worker-support https://www.opensocietyfoundations.org//understanding-sex-

11.01.2022 Ireland introduced the Nordic Model (criminalising the purchasing of sex, but not the selling of sex) in 2017 and sex worker organisations have rightly been fighting against it ever since. We understand the intention of criminalising of the buyer was to signal the wrongfulness of sexual violence and exploitation, we do not agree that it is actually making sex workers lives better. We submit that it is actively creating a climate of risk and danger. https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-40046633.html

07.01.2022 https://rewire.news//prison-abolition-requires-decrimina/ Here in Jackson Heights, [for] merely walking around dressed sexily, being a trans woman, or wearing short clothing, the police can deem you to be a sex worker, arrest you, and also deport you, García says. There are cases in which trans women have had to walk around with their certificates of marriage to prove that the person who is walking by their side is their partner and not a client.
