20.01.2022 Recently, the Sustainability Committee looked at how much packaging waste is produced from multipack and single-serve chips. The students calculated that many times more plastic was used for essentially the same amount of product. For the last 25 years, plastic has been the most common type of rubbish collected on Clean Up Australia Days and much of this can be attributed to single-use packaging.

20.01.2022 It was a fantastic morning for the Primary School Cross Country for our 8 to 10 year olds. This year's race is a competitors only format with runners nominating to complete a 2km course along the Googik Heritage Track. Tomorrow our 11 to 13 year olds will take to the track for a 3km run.

20.01.2022 Our Year 12 formal last Thursday evening was an amazing celebration for our newest graduates, despite the limitations of COVID restrictions. Our staff transformed the School's Iona Theatre into a beautiful venue for the valedictory dinner. Here are a few photos of the night. More to come next week.

20.01.2022 Thank you to Science teacher Michael Eichler for providing our Year 8 students with a valuable opportunity to listen to his experiences and insight as a Rural Fire Service Volunteer during the 2019/20 bushfire season. Year 8 are currently studying Natural Disasters in Geography and were keen to hear from Mr Eichler as this past season was certainly close to home for our community, and we are still recovering from its devastating impacts.

20.01.2022 Some of our Year 5 and 6 students spent their sport time at Flynns Beach this week participating in beach games. They enjoyed relays with various balls, rubber chickens and frisbees followed by a swim.

With 40 new Year 7 students joining this group in 2021, there were many new friendships made and Year 6 enjoyed showing our new students around the campus.

18.01.2022 Congratulations to Georgia Stanfield-Gates who was an excellent representative of the School in this week’s State semi-final of the Legacy Public Speaking Competition. Georgia was impressive across both sections of the competition, prepared and impromptu, and the judges noted that she had performed in the top of the field.

18.01.2022 Congratulations to Tim Ebbs, Andre Pelser, Jacob Mills and Joshua Blue, who this morning won the State Country Schools Chess KO. They now move on to the Nationals! The Chess squad also had a great day last Friday and are possibly through to the State finals of the Interschool Chess Challenge. We are eagerly awaiting those results.

17.01.2022 Our Secondary Co-Curricular Dance students have started some conditioning resistance training. Progressing Ballet Technique Director Adam Blanch designed these fun new exercises for dancers to feel which muscles initiate correct alignment and give weight to contemporary movement.

16.01.2022 Congratulations to Year 12 2020 students Molly Moore, Hannah Jones and Zoe Brennan who have received nominations for inclusion in the SHAPE and TexStyle HSC Major Work Showcases. Molly and Hannah received SHAPE nominations for their respective projects 'HugMe' and 'RoboBall'. Zoe received a nomination for TexStyle for her Tutu Major Work Project. Well done girls!

16.01.2022 Each year incoming members of the Senior Student Leadership Committee attend a Leadership Retreat in preparation for the new year. Our incoming Committee reflected on the meaning of their new responsibilities and the ways in which they can serve the SCAS community in their positions. Throughout the two days they heard from Principal Terry Muldoon and were paid a special visit from the Bishop of The Anglican Diocese of Grafton, Dr Murray Harvey.

Each week students will be getting to know their new Year Patron, Ms Ella Lakin, and Head of Secondary, Mrs Emma Bylsma. There are many exciting activities organised for these sessions including SCAS-Kart Derby go-kart workshops and peer support sessions with our Senior Student Leadership Team.

14.01.2022 Congratulations to Year 8 students Charles Hammond, Hugo Northam and Alex Zavone who have been recognised in the top 12 finalists in the Origin Energy Little Big Idea competition. The boys were awarded a $1000 cash prize for their 'Fire Early Detection Drone' designed to be used in the Hastings Region. These enterprising students were also given the opportunity to collaborate with an industry technology designer to further develop their idea.

14.01.2022 Congratulations to our Year 12 Society and Culture students who recently completed and submitted their major work for the HSC. It is called the Personal Interest Project (PIP) and is worth 40% of their HSC mark. The PIP is a social and cultural research project that draws together the interest, research skills and personal experiences of the student to develop knowledge and understanding and achieve social and cultural literacy.

Our 2021 School Captain Elect, George Teasdell, visited RSL LifeCare Arthur Blackburn VC Gardens, a new Aged Care facility in Port Macquarie. George was honoured to be able to lead the service with his recital of The Ode, The Last Post and The Rouse.

Tajs passionate proposal to help our beaches and waterways placed him runner-up which has won him and his classmates a live, interactive virtual reef dive. Tajs class will be able to explore the Great Barrier Reef virtually and ask the diver questions live while he is underwater! Congratulations Taj.

09.01.2022 Year 3 students had the opportunity this morning to have their Science lesson in the brand new Sustainability and Environmental Centre. Secondary School Science teacher, Mr O'Mullane, used a Van D Generator to explore power and static electricity. Looks like fun!

08.01.2022 The end of the year is always an exciting time for Year 5 students as they prepare for their roles as leaders of the most senior year group in the Primary School. For their leadership day students took part in activities to assist with goal setting, time management, resilience and social skills. We are excited to see these future leaders step up in 2021.

08.01.2022 During the term our Year 10 Commerce students have been delving into the practicalities of running a business. To enhance their classroom learning, students visited local businesses Billabong Zoo and Stoney Aqua Park to see how they run their operations, marketing, finance and human resources areas. Students then had the experience of enjoying these two local venues as visitors.

04.01.2022 There are plenty of wonderful opportunties in Dance at SCAS, both inside and outside the classroom. From classical ballet to contemporary dance and more, children of all ages and abilities can explore new skills and cultivate a love of dance.

03.01.2022 Introducing our 2021 School Captains, George Teasdell and Tait McIntyre, and our Vice Captains, Jesse Beard and Anneke Oliver. George, who joined the School in Year 7, is very involved in the music and drama programs at SCAS and recently had one of his musical compositions chosen to be played by the Queensland Youth Orchestra as part of their Open Fanfare program. Tait also joined us in Year 7, and is a keen participant in the School’s choirs and bands and has represented the school in athletics. Jesse also joined us in Year 7 and is very involved in the School’s sports and performing arts programs, and Anneke has been with us since Year 2 and also enjoys her involvement the School’s band and choirs.

02.01.2022 To mark the end of their time in Primary School, teachers have organised a picnic day at Stoney Aqua Park for our graduating Year 6 students. Despite the overcast weather, they appear to be having a fantastic time!
