20.01.2022 On Friday, 13th November, South Coast Baptist College’s Year 11 ATAR Metals students invited the Head of Secondary, Mr. James Trimble, to come down to the MDT workshop and ride their electric transport vehicles. The electric vehicles were made from recycled bicycles and the result of a year’s design, planning, and production which culminated in a fully functional vehicle that could be ridden safely. Mr. Trimble arrived with trepidation and an adventurous look in his eye. He ...received verbal instructions on how to maneuver the vehicle and being informed that the brakes were a ‘work in progress’, he decided to take the plunge and risk his safety and well-being for the betterment of student education. Donning a safety helmet, he took off at a quarter the vehicle’s speed capability around the pathway outside M Block. Mr. Trimble completed the course with a big smile on his face and commented that he really enjoyed the experience. Everyone in attendance enjoyed the spectacle and felt that Mr. Trimble did the teachers proud. Rigorous Minds I Compassionate Hearts https://youtu.be/OjIGTaJqM6Y

Each student chose to work either in a team or individually to prepare and present an exhibit that explored a science concept or answered a science question or hypothesis. Teams of judges then visited each exhibit and scored them on Science Content, Understanding & Knowledge & Creativity. Every student received a certificate acknowledging their contribution with trop...hies and medallions awarded to exhibitors of merit. One highlight of the evening was the opportunity for all attendees to vote for the ‘People’s Choice Award.’ The votes have been tallied and the award was presented at our recent assembly to Vincent, Liam & Rhett for their Gauss Rifle Exhibit. 08.01.2022 SCBC Kindy 4 has come full circle in 2020! It started out with an inquiry into the sustainability of our environment. Whereby students planted and cultivated their own vegetables, as well as, recycling lunch fruit and vegetable scraps into a compost bin. The students regularly cooked vegetables cultivated from the garden, these included sweet potato chips, cooked beans, and our favourite vegetable Frittatas with Chef Craig in the high school kitchen. The compost was added t...o the class worm farm, those worms worked very hard to create worm tea. At the start, the children added the worm tea to their own vegetable gardens but the worms were producing so much that they had to think about what to do with it all. After a discussion with the children, it was decided to sell the worm tea to their families for a donation, it was so popular that we had to decide what to do with the funds raised. We reminded the children about the school theme community for the year and what it meant. We looked at the different members within our community including aged care homes and the impact of coronavirus on residents within aged care facilities. Without hesitation, the students decided to purchase equipment for the local aged care home Brightwater The Oaks. Equipment included 3Dpuzzles, dumbbells, fishing games, and many more. The children wrapped and decorated the gifts that were presented to The Oaks Service Manager Catherine Zhou, Deputy Service Manager Tracy Boettger, and Therapy Assistant Janet Corbett. Brightwater CEO Jennifer Lawrence thought the Kindy children to be very kind in their gesture. We are absolutely elated that the Kindy class thought of our clients when deciding who they could help in the community, she said. The gifts were well received, some of the residents said it felt like Christmas, and the CEO of Brightwater. Rigorous Minds I Compassionate Hearts
