19.01.2022 Hi. Sorry we aren't having the Party this year but we offered the wonderful businesses who supported last year a 2020 Certificate of Merit for their collections. Well, I've received some great photos of the Honour Wall in lots of local FNQ businesses. Thanks for your help and understanding. Looking forward to 2021
19.01.2022 We're happening!
19.01.2022 Im not sure how it got to be nearly July but here we are. The time has raced by as so many decisions have been made by so many people in health, politics and business and all on the fly with very little history to call on for guidance. I believe that the Far North Queensland economy is one of the worst impacted regions in Australia. Although I have not travelled up, I have family in Cairns and friends in business who have been all through Cairns, Port Douglas and the Tablela...nds and their hearts are broken for the business owners who continue to struggle and those who have been forced to walk away. The Special Childrens Christmas Party was first held in Cairns in 1994. For 26 years, the business community has stepped up to support as many as 1,200 local children with special needs; those with life limiting illness or conditions that require repeated or prolonged hospitalisation and their families through the staging of the Party. Weve continued to honour our commitment to the invited families through all kinds of circumstances, but this year is unmatched in the challenge its thrown our way. Please understand the difficulty I have had in making the decision to not hold a Special Childrens Christmas Party in Cairns in 2020. I cant in all conscience ask businesses to make the discretionary spend of their limited resources in supporting the Party in the current market. To the business community our generous sponsors I say Please dont forget us. Well be back stronger in 2021. To the invited families, I am so sorry. I hope you understand. I hope the children understand. We have no big organisation behind us with the finances to bail us out. Its just me. Stay safe. Stay well.

18.01.2022 We know how much the families who attend the Special Childrens Christmas Party rely on the excellent help and support they get from nurses and so we join with our families in saying Thank you"

16.01.2022 The world is a crazy place at the moment and we all need to take care of each other. I was so grateful to receive this thoughtful, useful gift the other day from a very dear friend.

15.01.2022 In case you hadn't noticed - it's only one month to go until Christmas Day
13.01.2022 Talk of Covid-19 is everywhere. Can you imagine how frightening it is for the kids? As adults we are running all the What if scenarios through our heads and trying to keep things as ordinary as possible for our children. The only what if to be addressed here is about whether the Special Childrens Christmas Party will go ahead this year. We believe it will. We are proceeding to ensure it will. But we dont have a crystal ball and we dont have control of all the factors. ...However, I have 27 years of my life invested in these Parties. We have been through an awful lot of unprecedented events in that time and we have prevailed. We will again. We will think of a way. If more than 500 people are permitted to gather, there will be a Party at the venue and it will be the best we can make it. If its less than 500 (or whatever number) then maybe there will be shifts at the Party and people will come and go. Will it look the same as other years? Maybe. Maybe it will be better. Great changes came to the way we work from standing in almost knee-deep water at a Party years ago. A good shake up forces us to look at things from a different angle. Will we have toys? Well, we have been in a room filled with possible toys packed to the rafters trying to choose between the rad reindeer and delightful donkey. Or theres always the dotty dogthe beautiful bear decisions. Decisions. Whichever we choose, we know it will go into the loving arms of the invited children. The world economic impacts on the Australian dollar adds an extra degree of difficulty and another polish of the crystal ball. IF the world is still trying to contain, control, manage, understand this virus by the time the Parties come around in November and December, we are going to need every possible opportunity to celebrate life, family and community. We are working towards being a huge part of that celebration. Please keep the faith and we will stay calm and believe in Santa. Thank you for all your support and hope to see you later in the year when we share your generosity with hundreds of local families. Stay well. See more

08.01.2022 Today is #RandomActsofKindnessDay and I thought that apart from encouraging everyone to do something a little random for someone else, I would use the opportunity to thank ALL the volunteers who kindly give their time and smiles to make your Party possible. #CAIRNSSES these orange uniforms have meant so much to so many this summer and we are so grateful for this team of people who keep coming back to help. Keep checking back for more photos of amazing people just like these.
