25.01.2022 Last week Yr 12 students were provided with the opportunity to take part in Tomorrow Man and Tomorrow Woman face to face and virtual workshops. The workshops aid young people in building emotional muscle and practice the skills of being able to have better conversations with those around them. 2020 has been a challenging year and building social connection and resilience is vital in helping our young people navigate these uncertain times. Last Thursday, Brendan Cowell, Australian theatre and film star, currently shooting Avatar in New Zealand, Zoomed into our Year 12 Drama class to discuss how to choose the best monologue for the Individual Project for the HSC. In celebration of recent Mother's Day, Southern Cross extended an invitation to all Mother figures to attend a flower making workshop coordinated by the Yr 12 Events class. During the workshop guests were provided with delicious light refreshments, and were also given beauty treatments. A wonderful day held by all. 24.01.2022 A career pathway through an Innovation and Enterprise specialisation allows students in Years 9 and 10 to ignite their passion by commencing a Certificate I course in Automotive, Business, Construction, Hospitality, Retail, or Technology. The pathway will allow for accelerated progression into Certificate III courses in Year 10. Enrolments now open. 22.01.2022 Superhero Staff appreciation lunch... Early this week our Events students, in collaboration with Hospitality students, hosted a staff appreciation luncheon. The Café was beautifully styled and guests were treated to some delicious and healthy vegetarian Buddha Boxes and drinks. Each guest also received a gift pack, which included freshly made apple jam and wooden cutting boards. This was a lovely way of saying thank you for all the support the staff and facilitators have given our students throughout the year. Well done to all involved!

15.01.2022 Southern Cross joins the CSDA Debating Competition... Our Yr 10 & 12 students were proud to be able to form the first Southern Cross Debating Team. A great initiative allowing students to further develop literacy and communication, as well as organisational and leadership skills for future employability. Congratulations Charlotte for being awarded the major prize in this years Clancy Prize Exhibition, for the artwork titled "Tableland of Faith and Time" which tells a story of redemptive healing following a life-altering head injury. We also celebrate Reuben Cule who submitted an artwork titled "The evolution of students" which marked the major shifts from teacher centered classrooms to self directed learning by students.... This week our Yr 11 students have been helping out our local WIRES (Wildlife Information and Rescue Service) Inner West group by repairing Possum Boxes for re-use. The students and staff enjoyed working together on this project completing a dozen possum boxes in record time. Southern Cross will look to continue providing this service for our community.... Southern Cross offers Nationally Accredited Certificate II courses in Salon Assistant and Certificate III courses in Hairdressing (SBAT) and Make-Up. Our purpose built Beauty and Hair Salons provide perfect opportunity for our students to build on their knowledge and skills within this industry. Part of the course requires students to "Provide salon services to clients" as a unit of competency by working on external clients that book into the salon each term. 05.01.2022 Yr 12 Hospitality students serve up a mouthwatering luncheon... Guests from our local community were invited to a special luncheon as a thank you for their continued support and patronage of the College and our students. Students prepared, cooked and served a 2 course plated meal - Salmon fillet w' couscous, Chickpea & pomegranate salad with side of homestyle potato wedges all finished off with mouthwatering Meringue strawberry & rhubarb tartlet w' homemade vanilla bean ice cream. Yum!
