15.01.2022 When I describe sensory issues to parents whose kids have them, Nancy Peske says, the usual reaction is ‘Oh, my gosh, that’s it!’ They’ve been trying to put a finger on ‘it’ for many months, even years! The sense of relief that they finally know what ‘it’ is is humongous. Usually, issues related to Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) are first recognised during a child's toddler years, however, most of the time these signs are brushed aside as simply quirky or strange behaviour or unusual mood swings. What's beyond your fence?... - A hillside? - A meadow? - A beach? - A creek? - A park? - A forest? At SCECS we embrace all that mother nature has to offer, this is where children develop emotional connections to experiences and locations. Our outdoor play and nature practice & pedagogy is even more valuable as many of our children are from urban environments. We don't need forests or beaches at our fingertips or even fancy outdoor settings - we just need the sky, the breeze and the belief in what is possible.
