25.01.2022 It’s been a big week with formal training courses held on Tamborine Mountain. Storm & Water Damage Course and Emergency Lighting & Generators, preparing our newest members for the up and coming storm season. The formal courses were ran by Adam Dorricott and Paul Hinchcliffe, thank you to both of you for the extra hours preparing for the courses and of course for today. Congratulations to our members and thank you to the Gold Coast Unit members for coming up to take part in the courses. Thank

24.01.2022 Our Vertical Rescue team train on rope twice a month as well as the occasional group exercise which is usually organised on a weekend to ensure we get the whole day to practice several scenarios. If a member of the public falls from a height we have the ability, training and equipment to be first on scene, abseil down and check on the injured person. We can also lower a paramedic down for them to check on the patient, we can set up a stretcher for the patient to be hauled ba...ck to the top or if they are just a climber that found themselves stuck we can perform a one on one rescue and safely get them to the ground. During this exercise we welcomed some members from the Technical Rescue Crew from Beenleigh Fire & Rescue Service, we have been on many activations along side them so it was great to showcase what we do and share ideas and different scenarios to strengthen our skills and knowledge. Thank to our Vertical Rescue teams from both East and West sides of our Scenic Rim SES unit for your dedication to VR training specifically.

24.01.2022 Another day... another rescue. Friday saw Scenic Rim SES head out to Mt Maroon for a rescue of two lost bushwalkers. While this is a good time of year to explore the mountains, we strongly encourage you to be prepared. There has been a large increase in rescues in the Scenic Rim this year. Hikers often approach a hike thinking all will be well and ‘it won’t happen to me’ but time and time again people are caught out. Our mountains are not to be under estimated and you should... always be prepared for anything. Make sure that you take a friend, plenty of water (at least 2L), food (enough for 12-24hours), warm clothes (even in summer the mountain summits can be cold), a phone and spare battery pack/bank, first aid kit, a thermal blanket (it may only look like a sheet of Alfoil but is great in the cold). Before you go in tell someone where you are going and when you are due to return. Install the emergency app, just in case. And have a navigation app (we use Terra Map) in case you get lost. If in doubt, get a guide. We want you to enjoy your time on the mountains, so be safe and be prepared! See more

24.01.2022 Over the last week the South East QLD region was hot by extreme weather events. As a result SES has completed an incredible amount of Working Safely at Heights jobs that involved securing tarps on home owners roofs. Our role as SES volunteers is to preserve property in an emergency to avoid further damage and allow the home owner to then go through insurance to have their roof repaired. We’d like to congratulate our volunteers for becoming certified in Working Safely at Heigh...ts on the weekend! Our operational response is growing each time our members increase their skills and knowledge. We thank our volunteers for preparing meals for the training group, the participants for further developing their skills and to the trainers for the successful operation and completion of the training course. Congratulations to our newest WSAH Team

23.01.2022 Twenty one of our newest SES Scenic Rim Unit and SES Gold Coast Unit members braved the weather on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend to obtain their certificate in Land Search Operations. Thank you to our Unit Trainer Paul Hinchcliffe, Trainer Marg Brown, Trainer Jeffrey McConnell, Trainee Trainer Adam Dorricott and Trainee Trainer Marty Westguard for the preparation and delivery of the course. Thank you to Michelle Lee and Mark O’Toole for your assistance with Logistics.... Congratulations to all participants for their successful completion! In other news our unit was surprisingly only tasked to one Roof Damage job on Tamborine Mountain today. Thank you to our volunteer members Sarah, Ashleigh, Ameer, Bill and Paul for attending. We hope everyone enjoys a warm and cosy night in tonight Gold Coast State Emergency Service - SES Queensland Fire and Emergency Services - QFES

23.01.2022 The SES family Australia wide is so amazing! Our SES volunteers in South East Queensland Region have been assisting on the NSW/QLD border from the first day of the Covid-19 lock down. Initially working 12 hour shifts and for some of our Scenic Rim SES members this meant driving back out west as far as Aratula to get home. Thankfully accomodation was eventually offered for our volunteers which helped better manage fatigue of our volunteers. With the most recent Queensland Sout...h East Region Severe thunderstorms, all of our teams in our region are beyond exhausted, the magnitude of roofs that were severely damaged could have never been estimated. We thank our incredible SES family for dedicating so many hours as SES volunteers, every effort by each individual is so very appreciated. We welcome teams from all Queensland Regions, South Australia & New South Wales with open arms and so much gratitude and as a team we’ll continue to assist one home at a time. Thank you to all Rural Fire Service who are helping out too, the whole emergency services community is an incredible one We thank the community for their patience and support as we do everything we can to help

22.01.2022 Today while the sun was shining our teams were out on jobs again today! The magnitude of damage and a long list of homes needing the help of the SES from this storm is outstanding. We are so proud of our SES volunteers and all the emergency services assisting in Ipswich! Thank you for all that you do

20.01.2022 Last night out Tamborine Mountain volunteers undertook formal training in the safe operation of ladders. A task that we use a lot during storm season, as we inspect leaking roofs and overflowing gutters etc. Thank you to our amazing volunteer trainers who prepare our formal courses in their spare time. Special thanks to Unit Training Officer Paul Hinchcliffe, Trainer Jeffrey McConnell and Trainee Trainer Adam Dorricott. Thank you to all our volunteer members that attended this formal training last night, great work!

17.01.2022 Today is Yellow Ribbon Day, a day to say THANK YOU to our family, friends and colleagues in the Queensland Rural Fire Service (RFS) for their commitment and dedication to keeping our communities safe. This time last year we assisted QPS and supported QFRS and RFS during the Sarabah fires, during this time many friendships and bonds were formed. We look forward to working along side the RFS in the future during natural disasters. If you know a RFS volunteer, make sure you take the time today to say thank you. #YellowRibbonDay #YRD20

15.01.2022 Our Group Training sessions are wrapping up for 2020 in a few weeks time. Tonight the Beaudesert Group performed some Casualty Handling skills at Bicentennial Park, Beaudesert. We are often called to assist QAS with the retrieval of injured hikers so this type of training is a huge asset to the community as we move into the holiday period and everyone is out hiking our beautiful national parks. Thank you for the photos: DLC - Sandy Bell

15.01.2022 The SES work alongside and in collaboration with a wide range of both internal and external agencies. You will quite often find us assisting with the stretcher carry of injured patients in local national parks for QAS. As a result, learning and understanding each other’s operational capabilities is highly important. Last night our volunteers were invited to the Tamborine Mountain Fire Station for a meet & greet with their crews and to take a look at their appliances/equipment.... Thank you to the Tamborine Mountain Fire & Rescue Service for hosting an informative and fun night. We thank our volunteers for taking time out of their personal schedules to attend this event, we hope that everyone gained a little bit of knowledge and that you all enjoyed the night. 13.01.2022 Many Scenic Rim post codes are included in the most recent Queensland Government restricted areas (to protect the elderly in our community specifically aged care facilities) and as a result it’s imperative that we practice the following: Please share the message to stay vigilant to keep our communities safe and potentially Covid free. Stay home if you are feeling unwell ... 11.01.2022 Another busy weekend for the Scenic Rim SES with two rescues, first aid course and a community assist. Friday afternoon saw members assist at a rescue of a fallen climber at Mt May. Saturday members took part in first aid training and also assisted at a local ultramarathon ensuring runners didn’t miss their checkpoints. Sunday afternoon we received another call to assist a fallen climber at Mt Barney. Thank you to all those that attended over the weekend. And a reminder to all those heading out in the Scenic Rim, please be prepared and stay safe.

11.01.2022 Today we will remember them.........Lest We Forget

09.01.2022 What did you do on the weekend? Our Scenic Rim SES volunteers were kept occupied with several calls for assistance. It began Saturday morning with a missing person at Mt Barney, followed by a suspected snake bite near Beechmont, the Tamborine Lantern Parade Saturday evening and a search for missing persons on Mt Greville last night. Sunday members assisted South West at Mt Superbus with two hikers followed by a chainsaw job at Tamborine Mountan. And to round off the weekend..., missing hikers on Mt May. If you are looking at heading out in the Scenic Rim, please be careful and perhaps think twice in this heat. Always tell someone where you are going and when you will return. Take plenty of water - more than you think you need in this heat. Try not to walk in the hottest part of the day during a heat wave. And spare a thought for those that may come to find you if you get lost or injured. Enjoy the Scenic Rim but please do it safely. See more

01.01.2022 While most of us finished work for the week yesterday (Friday) at 1730hrs our volunteer members were activated for a Search and Rescue at Mount Greville, where male hiker became disorientated after climbing the summit via the Waterfall Gorge Track. Tasked by Queensland Police service their mission was to locate the missing person and to assist him in returning to base, thankfully the missing person had mobile contact, food and water. Our teams located him at approximately 23...30hrs with the assistance of Polair providing his GPS location and the missing person was safely guided back to base at 0530hrs. The team and male hiker were greeted by Queensland Ambulance personnel to treat the missing person and to ensure that he didn’t obtain any injuries. Our teams out west have an incredible amount of experience and knowledge of the area and we are thankful for their huge effort overnight. We thank our volunteer members from Aratula, Boonah and Tamborine Mountain for carrying out a successful search and rescue last night had we hope they all enjoy catching up on sleep today.
