09.01.2022 It’s the last day of Chanukah... but the light we’ve allowed to enter into ourselves and share with others will continue to shine. Take the spirit of the Festiv...al along with you and utilise the messages that it has taught to inspire your life and the lives of those around you. It’s almost a cliche now to say it’s been an unprecedented and difficult year. With recent concerns out of NSW I think many of us are worried that we might take a few steps backwards. It’s very important to stay positive and look out for each other. Let pray this situation gets under control quickly and that we can continue enjoy the freedoms we’ve had of recent weeks. Whatever happens, if we focus on how we can be there for each other, we can overcome any obstacles in our way! May the light of the Chanukah candles all across the globe bring healing, togetherness peace and joy into all our lives! Chanukah Sameach!

08.01.2022 It was certainly not something we could have ever wanted to not be in Shule over Rosh Hashana this year. Nevertheless today was just magical. Walking through t...he streets of South Caulfield and sounding the Shofar for so many Jews in the community was an experience that will not be forgotten. This trusted Shofar blew 1950 sounds which is 65 times sounding the shofar for women, men and children in our community. Thanks to the Rabbinical Council of Victoria and the other team of volunteers who covered the streets of Melbourne with Project High Holydays!

08.01.2022 A great session last night at the Batmi Program with Community Security Group Victoria - CSG ! Thanks for an awesome presentation!

08.01.2022 There are actually no appropriate words that could do justice to describing Ella Blumenthals story. All I can say is that we were all humbled and honoured to b...e able to hear her story live tonight. Her words give life a different perspective and make us appreciate every minute we have on this earth. Once again a really big thank you to Ella for sharing her story with us. A recording will be available on YouTube which Ill share when its ready.

05.01.2022 The board regrets to inform the congregation that Rabbi Daniel and Rebbetzin Sarah Rabin have been offered and accepted the position of Senior Rabbinical couple at the Caulfield Hebrew Congregation. The Rabbi and Rebbetzin will continue to be with us for the High Holiday period and throughout Succot, Shmini Atzeret and Simchat Torah until the end of October. They will continue to deliver the same inspirational leadership that they have given us since joining at the start of 2...018. The board has been aware of the possibility of the situation for a number of weeks and are committed to the ongoing growth of our amazing congregation. We have already commenced planning for the recruitment of a new Rabbi and Rebbetzin and look forward to reporting our progress in the coming weeks. The Rabbi has agreed to assist the board in this process. We wish the Rabbi, Rebbetzin and family success in their new venture and thank them for the outstanding contribution they have made in the rejuvenation of the South Caulfield Hebrew Congregation. Shabbat shalom. President, Executive and Board of Management.

01.01.2022 Such a beautiful lunch, enjoyed with our young at hearts! Happy Chanukah!!

01.01.2022 Reflecting on the past week after finishing to sit Shiva this morning: From the moment I received the call that my dad had passed away, life changed forever. It... is not easy to face the new reality. It is not easy to accept that I will not be able to speak to my father again in this physical world. It is a deep and sharp pain. A pain that I’ve endured over the week... I don’t have words to adequately describe it. It is an emotional and physical pain all mixed together. It is one of those things that sadly you cannot truly understand until you have gone through it and even then, each person will have their own unique experience (if you haven’t gone through it please God you don’t have to for a long time to come!) The Shiva period, though, has been cathartic in a strange kind of way. It created a bubble in time and space. Time and space to mourn, to cry, to grieve, to reminisce, to ponder and to detach from every day life. It was very difficult not being able to sit with my brother and sister as we all are in different parts of the world. I am nonetheless grateful for technology that did give us the chance to connect over the week. Shiva promotes facing the reality, it encourages taking the time to absorb the loss. We continuously hear the words about receiving comfort at this time and I have to genuinely say all the visits, messages, calls and Shiva minyanim brought much comfort. I know people are concerned they might say the wrong thing to a mourner (I’ve personally always been cognizant of this as a community rabbi) but the truth is, for me, just being with people, regardless of where the conversations went, did help. (This is my experience and as said above, each person will have their own). My community and the wider community have been so amazing. I cannot express my appreciation strongly enough to you all. I pray that we will be able to share Simchas together in the future. The pain does represent love too. The greater the pain I think means there was a lot of love. This is why it hurts so much. My dad had an unconditional love for us. He made us so proud. His work healing people, teaching us to be metschen, teaching us to love our Yiddishkeit, and the profound love he had for us and his grandchildren will always be with us. I hope to share words about his life at the Shloshim service. It’s now my and my siblings chance to perpetuate his memory. To live our lives and hopefully make him proud on high. I can only hope (and must work hard to strengthen the relationships) that the way I feel about him, my children will one day feel about me. I would like to thank my dear wife Sarah for all her support and care through this time. Dad you will always be in our hearts and minds. You are now at peace and once again with our mother. We will miss you so much. May HaShem comfort all those who are grieving at this time and may Hashem bring an end to all suffering and pain with the coming of Moshiach.
