During Autumn, grass is busily absorbing energy, moisture, and nutrients in preparation for battling the elements of winter. Allow Mr Schmick to give your lawn a little attention now, and you'll be rewarded with a lush, healthy spring lawn. 5 Ways to help your lawn in Autumn... 1)Keep on mowing... As the season draws to a close drop the mower’s blade to its lowest setting as this will allow more sunlight to reach the crown of the grass for winter. 2) Fertilise your lawn. Most experts agree if you only fertilise once a year then you must do it in Autumn. An application now means the grass can grow deep roots and keep nutrients on reserve. 3) Aerate and loosen up your soil, particularly as we have experienced heavy rains. When the soil becomes compacted, the roots aren’t able to breathe causing the lawn in these areas to thin and die out 4) Rake the leaves. Leaves can suffocate the grass and breed fungal disease 5) Fix Bald spots. Autumn is a great time to fix any bare or bald spots in your lawn. See more
