24.01.2022 Medical Research Opportunity Dear Miniature Schnauzer owner: My name is Dr Gretta Howard and I am one of the senior veterinarians at Turramurra VeterinaryHospital.... I have been asked to assist in a research project which is looking at the relationship between elevated triglyceride levels in the blood and the endocrine disorders called Cushings Disease, which is a common issue in the Miniature Schnauzer breed - one of my favourite dog breeds. If you have a Miniature Schnauzer either less than 12 months of age or over 4 years old, then I would love to include your dog in the study (we already have sufficient numbers of dogs between 12 months and 3 years old). There is obviously no charge to you to have the blood tests run and it is a good screening opportunity to check your dog for elevated triglycerides. The research project is being undertaken by Murdoch University in Western Australia by the veterinary medicine team there and they would like another 20-30 Sydney recruits. The study involves bringing your dog to me in the morning of either Friday July 24 or Saturday July 25, 2020 for a physical exam and a fasting blood test (no food for 15 hours or more), then depending on the results, your dog may require another test later in the year. For the initial blood test, we will need your dog for approximately 20 minutes. This is a wonderful opportunity to be able to help veterinarians to better understand hypertriglyceridaemia in Miniature Schnauzers and how we can best manage this problem in the future. If you would like your dog to be included in this research project, please reply to this email with your preferred date/time for the blood test (either Friday July 24 or Saturday July 25) and fill in a health questionnaire to be completed by July 10 available from Turramurra Veterinary Hospital and which can be emailed back to me. Alternatively, we can complete the questionnaire over the phone with me filling it in - just let me know and I can organise a time to phone you. Thank you in advance, Kind regards, Gretta -- Dr Gretta Howard BVSc (Hons) (University of Sydney) MVS (Sm.Anim.Pract.) MANZCVS (Sm.Anim.Med.) 19.01.2022 Grooming Seminar April 11 CANCELED As you would be aware at present visitors from mainland China are not allowed to enter Australia. As I understand this is under weekly review. Johnny Lee lives thousands of kilometres from the site of this virus. We remain optimistic that Johnny will be able to fulfil both his judging appointment and the grooming seminar in April.... Clearly a determination will need to be made by the Club in March. Should Johnny not be able to visit Australia this April, the club will negotiate to bring him out at a later time to undertake these activities. Thank you for your patience as we work through the next few weeks. Liz Gallagher Secretary SCNSW Inc

18.01.2022 Now CANCELLED as at 16/03/2020 ANNOUNCING OUR NEW JUDGE FOR 05 April 2020 Our newly contracted Judge is Mr Larry Adams from the USA who has kindly agreed to step in at short notice to replace our China based judge, Mr Johnny Lee. Mr Adams has been contracted by the Welsh Corgi Club to judge their Speciality event the day before our Specialty Show on Sunday 5 April 2020. That club has been very helpful in working with us to find a quality, international Judge to adjudicate f...or Schnauzer Club NSWs Show. I would thank them for their assistance and support over the last few weeks as we put this together. Mr Adams background includes his first Pembroke Welsh Corgi in 1979 a little eight week old red and white female OMelaghlins Jones Killarney. As she grew older, he was encouraged by a friend to enter her in a dog show, his first dog show ever. Jones won Winners Bitch thus GAYLORD was born! He writes: Over the years many dogs have come and gone. Gaylord has produced countless Champions and through the sport of purebred dogs I have made many cherished friends and acquaintances all over the world. I have also bred and shown German Shepherds, Skye Terriers and Norwich Terriers. Gaylord has imported twelve dogs from the UK. One special dog CH Perrymist Red Affair (Ricky) was truly a great dog that I still miss today. His son CH Caralons Casper More recently another dog that I own - GCH Ciregna Thats Amore ROMX (Lucca) has been ranked Number 10 Top Sire in the history of the breed producing 50 AKC Champions. Type, temperament, healthy dogs and especially that goose bump sidegait has been the foundation of Gaylord. In 1997 - I began my Judging career. I have judged Corgis in Wales at the Championship level, Italy FCI Level 3 times, the 2004 Norwich National Specialty at Montgomery County and Dogs and Best of Breed at the 2008 PWCCA National Specialty, plus numerous other Regional Specialties. Not to forget judging the Corgi National in Australia and Finland. I have judged the Australian Shepherd National twice and the Beauceron National. I am on the slate to judge at Westminster Kennel Club in 2020. I am currently approved by the AKC to judge Best In Show, the Herding Group, a portion of the Terrier Group, Junior Showmanship and all the Miscellaneous Breeds. SCNSW Inc looks forward to your support and entries for our show on Sunday 05 April.

18.01.2022 Schnauzers at the Royal done and dusted for today. Those that want to know results can go to Royal Easter Show web page and explore dog judging results and follow prompts to see the winners and place getters from today. Our next Speciality Show is Saturday 17 April at the German Shepherd grounds at Orchard Hills. Show will not start before 1pm and may be later because there is another Show on the main ground and if any Schnauzer gets through to General Specials, ie wins a class in Utility Group at the St George Show, we have to wait until that judging is completed.

18.01.2022 Hey SCNSW members: Next year our Club has contracted international Judge, Johnny Lee to officiate at our Easter Speciality Show at Blacktown on Sunday April 5. All Schnauzers will be judged at Sydney Royal on Tuesday 07 April. In conjunction with these showing activities, the Club is trying to see if Schnauzer groomers would be interested in attending a Grooming Seminar on Easter Saturday April 11 to be conducted by Johnny Lee. Cost to attend would be approximately $50/$60.... The Seminar, if it goes ahead, would be conducted at Oz Grooming World at Prestons from 10am to 2.00pm with light lunch provided in cost. Right now we want to get an idea of numbers. Those attending would NOT be able to bring dogs for grooming. Items used by Johnny to demonstrate grooming would be available for sale that day from Oz Grooming World. For this demonstration to go ahead we would need a minimum of 25 people, prepaid in March. Johnny Lee is a world renowned Schnauzer grooming specialist and the knowledge and skills he will share at this event would be a rare opportunity for those that groom Schnauzers. We are not restricting attendance, so if you own and groom your own Schnauzer, you are welcome to attend. As advised we need minimum of 25 people and no more than 35 in total. Attendance will be based on first come, first to advise they would like to attend and receipt of full payment on a date to be advised in March. If you are interested in attending please message Liz Gallagher noting your interest with your name and contact phone number.

17.01.2022 Johnny Lee - Judging Appointment & Grooming Seminar - Cancelled Most regrettably the Club, based on concerns surrounding the virus and ongoing travel restrictions from China, has had to cancel Johnnys April 5 Judging appointment and Grooming Seminar on April 11 for this year. We hope to extend a future invitation to Johnny once the health issues and travel restrictions have resolved. Johnny has acknowledged the Clubs decision and expressed his disappointment at this outc...ome. It was not an easy decision, but one that had to be made based on our best understanding of the situation and the need to locate an alternate judge for our April 5 Show. I can advise that our Club is working with another breed club to secure the services of a visiting international Judge to take over this judging appointment. Approaches had previously been made to this Club and the Judge had been approached and agreed to be on stand by. Once that appointment is secure, details will be posted to this site. Clearly the planned Grooming Seminar will not be proceeding at this time. We will undertake this down the track when Johnny can visit sometime in 2021/22. We know many will be disappointed at this outcome, but trust you will continue to support our April 5 show at Blacktown Canine Centre Glendenning. Liz Gallagher Secretary Schnauzer Club NSW

At this time we’re in Ring 10 and judging is to commence at 11.30 am Look forward to seeing you and your dogs. Cheers Liz

13.01.2022 To our Showing Members We are very hopeful that our October Speciality will go ahead next month at Orchard Hills. There will be strict Covid protocols in place on the day including social distancing, regular sanitising and cleaning measures in place. Those members hoping to attend should visit our website schnauzerclubnsw.org.au to view our COVID-19 Plan and, most importantly - Conditions of Entry. By entering our Show you are confirming you have read, understood and agreed... to comply with the requirements as advised. It is also our intention to have a Covid Marshal on the day who will oversee Conditions of Entry and COVID-19 Plan requirements. Unfortunately no visitors are able to attend so we cant invite or have people coming out to meet breeders and see their dogs. Also, we have moved from Ozentries to Easy Dog entries - which hopefully will be in place sometime next week when formal advice is received for our Show to go ahead. We have been advised that our Ring for showing may change as well as our starting time to fit in with other groups showing on the day. Your cooperation on the day will be appreciated by Committee members.

10.01.2022 Hey All: We have been fortunate to again obtain food sponsorship from BlackHawk for our October 13 Speciality Show at Blacktown Canine Centre. We have international judge, Per Lundstrom for this event. All welcome to come and see all three Schnauzer breeds on show from 11.30 am.

08.01.2022 Dogs NSW have posted this advice earlier today. Based on this information I would advise our our Easter Specialty set for Sunday 5 April has been cancelled. Annual Pointscore awards will be presented at a date to be determined. While this is very disappointing, it is also the responsible approach in these worrying times. Stay safe and fingers crossed this terrible virus can be contained in the short term so we can all get back to enjoying our normal lives - including our do...g activities. ALL DOG SHOWS IN NSW CANCELLED! CANCELLATION OF ALL DOGS NSW EVENTS AND CLOSURE OF GROUNDS UNTIL MONDAY 13 APRIL 2020 INCLUSIVE Further, the situation regarding COVID-19 will be reviewed in twenty one days (21 days), ie, on Monday 6 April 2020. STATEMENT: The health and well-being of all DOG NSW Members and Staff is our priority. In view of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) coronavirus (COVID-19) statement of 13 March 2020. DOGS NSW advises that all DOGS NSW events scheduled for the next twenty eight days (28 days), from Monday 16 March 2020 until Monday 13 April 2020 inclusive, are to be cancelled or postponed and that DOGS NSW grounds are closed for all meetings or gatherings of more than five (5) people. DOGS NSW further advises that the situation regarding COVID-19 will be reviewed in twenty one days (21 days), ie, on Monday 6 April 2020, when further advice will be issued. More information can be accessed by clicking here:- RATIONALE: The COVID 19 pandemic is now moving extremely rapidly with infections increasing throughout the community, ie, community transmission is now becoming more common. The at risk group is 60+ years, especially for those with other health issues, a group that many of our members belong to. People are being advised not to be in groups of over 500, but if one is in a high risk group, they should not attend any non-essential meetings or gatherings. Regular attendees at DOGS NSW events could prove to be ideal vectors, ie, spreaders of this type of disease, as they may attend multiple events across the country, possibly being repeatedly exposed, thereby potentially repeatedly exposing others. All Agricultural shows have been cancelled and, therefore, the DOGS NSW Board of Directors believe the only option for us is to take a similar step to cancel all events for the next 28 days with a review of the position we are in 21 days. We could be considered grossly negligent if we fail to be proactive in this rapidly developing pandemic. We do not need to lose any of our members to this serious condition. If you need to cancel or change your booking of an event or camping, please email the Office at [email protected].

04.01.2022 A huge thank you to Yvonne Sewell (Facebook site Schnauzer NSW) who put together a Schnauzer calendar with photos submitted by followers of that site, and donated all proceeds to our Rescue, as organised by Glenda Renshaw. The amount donated was $1,500 - a very significant sum! Yvonne donates all her time and effort into this project - no mean feat. So thank you to Yvonne and members of that site for your generous support of our Rescue. Rest assured those funds will be utilised towards Schnauzer rescue and support in the future.

04.01.2022 April 5 Specialty Show - judging appointment As most are aware our judge scheduled to oversee this event is Johnny Lee from China. Given current state of affairs regarding travel restrictions from mainland China, the Club has taken measures to seek a judge willing to stand in, should Johnny not be able to attend. Im pleased to say that after liaison with another Breed club, that we have obtained agreement for a stand by judge visiting from the USA. ... At this time we remain optimistic Johnny will be able to fulfil his engagements with our Club, but are hopeful confirmation will be made in March.
