21.01.2022 Phoebe - 15 years old today Phoebe was rescued from the RSPCA in 2012 - she was 7 years old. She was found on the Central Coast, her owners contacted but they never came for her........... The day I collected her from the RSPCA, I brought her home and suddenly realised she was urinating excessively. Straight to the vet and she had a diagnosis of huge bladder stones and one in each kidney. Her future was bleak without immediate surgery.... With huge thanks to the Schnauzer Club of NSW rescue, we did a special nuclear medicine X-ray to see if she could survive surgery. All was good and Prof Max Zuber removed the bladder stones and one kidney stone. Phoebe came here to recuperate in a crate for a few weeks as she had a scar the length of her belly. I had a great home for her to go to after she recovered, but she had become extremely attached to Daisy, Zacci and me and I just could not break her heart and rehome her after the ordeal she had been through. After her recovery the trauma of being lost, impounded and surgery took its toll and she developed extreme anxiety. I had never seen a dog so manic. It was both daunting and frightening - she ate fabric when extremely stressed and I often ended up at the emergency vet. After a lot of research and discussion with her vet we decided to try medication combined with behavioural retraining. She is a very clever dog, so a lot of obedience training was put into her walks, combined with me leaving the house for short periods and returning quietly. After seven months I was able to wean her off the drug and she was happy again. She has had a great life with Daisy and Zacci and when Zacci went to the bridge in 2018 it took its toll on her. And along came Pixie. Pixie is 4 years old and has brought such joy to her life with zoomies through the house, mischief in the garden and lots of walks at the beach and in the park.
