Hot, dry and windy c...onditions will make fires difficult to control. If you haven't already, download Fires Near Me and review your bushfire survival plan. #NSWRFS

22.01.2022 Today is Thank a First Responder Day, and while first responders aren't in it for the recognition, we're taking this opportunity to show our gratitude and say t...hanks. There are more than 300,000 first responders in Australia - more than 70,000 of them part of the NSW RFS. Each one playing a vital role in protecting communities and supporting the people within them. So please join us as we say to all first responders, thank you! 19.01.2022 It's the first day of winter and things are cooling down Cooler months see a 10% increase in the number of home fires, with more fires in bedrooms and loung...erooms due to heaters, electric blankets, so it's important to refresh yourself on important winter fire safety tips. Did you know that you will not smell smoke while asleep? Only working smoke alarms save lives. Test your alarms and change the battery as required. 19.01.2022 A shout out to all the emergency services who are currently out there helping people caught out by the polar blast . A reminder to drive to the conditions, keep flammables a metre from the heater (and fire) and test that smoke alarm. Further snow is forecast today.

19.01.2022 Bush fire arson is a crime. The NSW Rural Fire Service and NSW Police Force are committed to fighting bush fire arson. Bush fire arson is dangerous. I...t can destroy lives, properties, and have long term effects on the environment. It is also costly for the community with the loss of properties, cost of firefighting resources and the disruption to businesses. How you can help If you see something that looks out of place, this may be what Police are looking for. If you can, record the details of vehicles such as the make, model and registration of suspicious vehicles. Also take note of the appearance of anyone acting suspiciously. Report suspicious behaviour to Crime Stoppers NSW on 1800 333 000. To report a fire emergency call Triple Zero (000). 17.01.2022 You know the alert levels of Advice, Watch and Act, and Emergency Warning. The way these are displayed on our website and Fires Near Me NSW smartphone app is c...hanging. Soon you’ll see these new icons. It’s part of the new Australian Warning System, to help you receive consistent information in emergencies no matter where you live, work or travel. While the icons may look different, what they mean doesn't change - you should check for information about what to do to protect you and your family. Keep an eye out for the new icons later this week. Check https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//gen/australian-warnings-system for info.

15.01.2022 Our Australian Seasonal Bushfire Outlook: June August 2021 is out today, with a spotlight on the start of northern Australia’s bushfire season. While La Niña... has meant a wet six months for most of the country, longer-term climate drivers are now neutral, so the weather in the coming three months will be more heavily influenced by local drivers in each state or territory. The Northern Territory had a strong wet season, which is leading to significant vegetation growth, with above normal fire potential in parts of the Top End. The rest of Australia can expect normal bushfire potential for the time of year. 13.01.2022 You don’t have to live right near the bush to be at risk. Even if your home is a few streets back, you may be at risk. Can you guess the main reason homes are lost during a bush fire? Find out more about preparing for the fire season at myfireplan.com.au #getreadyweekend #nswrfs

13.01.2022 Total Fire Ban has been declared for the Greater Sydney area for Sunday 29th. A total fire ban means no fires out in the open. A total fire ban helps limit the potential of fires developing. During a Total Fire Ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire.... General purpose hot works (such as welding, grinding or gas cutting or any activity that produces a spark or flame) are not to be done in the open. The NSW RFS strongly recommends you reconsider activities such as such using a tractor or slashing, to help reduce the chance of a fire starting on your property.

13.01.2022 Last summer's bush fires taught us some terrifying lessons about the importance of being prepared and having a plan. Learn from the experience of others this bush fire season.

12.01.2022 For the first time in the 2020/21 Fire Season, Greater Sydney will tomorrow experience Very High Fire Danger. Hot and dry conditions mean fires may be difficul...t to control. 12.01.2022 The days started to blur together.... Even now, we often say... "that was" a year ago!, and "was that" year ago?

06.01.2022 On this day last year, NSW experienced some of its worst fire danger ever recorded at the time with Catastrophic fire danger forecast across the Sydney, Great...er Hunter and Illawarra/Shoalhaven areas, leading to widespread school closures. Fire danger ratings are an important tool to help you make decisions about what to do and under these conditions, your only safe option is to leave early. You can learn more about the fire danger ratings, and check the rating for your area each day, at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fdr See more

06.01.2022 The bush fire season is fast approaching so it's important that you take the time now and over the coming months to prepare your property for the risk. Be prepared this fire season. Make a plan and take action now. Visit www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan

03.01.2022 Hot weather is coming to parts of NSW over the next few days. The recent rain means increased growth and as it dries out, the risk of fire will increase. Take the time now to know your risk and get ready. Check www.myfireplan.com.au for advice on making your bush fire survival plan.

02.01.2022 Communities across NSW will experience a significant drop in temperatures over coming days. This is the result of a strong cold front that will cross much of th...e state bringing possible snow falls across several locations in NSW. There's no better time to refresh your winter fire safety knowledge. Check your smoke alarm, keep items a metre from the heater and have a fire plan. 01.01.2022 Today Schofields brigade attended a fire in 20m x 20m pile of mulch at CSR PGH at Schofields. Working with site staff and heavy machinery along with the combined assistance of NSW RFS - Berkshire Park Brigade, Londonderry Rural Fire Brigade, Plumpton Rural Fire Brigade, Eastern Creek Rural Fire Brigade and NSW RFS - Cumberland Ops Support we were able to separate and extinguish the burning material from the main pile for a successful outcome. A great example of many parts working together for a great outcome.
