25.01.2022 For those patients who have not seen our prior notifications, our surgery is closed for Christmas from 19/12 to 3/1. We will reopen on 4/1/21. If you develop a cough, fever, sore throat or any respiratory symptoms please get a covid-19 test immediately. Best wishes and and happy holidays . We thank you for your support during a difficult year and look forward to looking after you in the New Year.

24.01.2022 Dear Patients If you have been OVERSEAS and you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, you should immediately phone your GP and explain your symptoms and your travel history. Do not make an appointment or attend a GP practice or hospital without informing them first, as they will need to make arrangements to protect others before you arrive.... If you are asked to attend the surgery you will be required to wear a mask to stop the spread of any viruses. Your cooperation and understanding during this time is greatly appreciated.

15.01.2022 Dear patients, We are trying to minimise contact between those patients that have a fever, sore throat, cough, runny nose or any cold and flu symptoms and other vulnerable patients. We will be using Telehealth going forward for any patient that has any cold and flu symptoms. Those patients that meet the criteria can be bulk billed for this consult. Those patients who do not meet the criteria will be privately billed. We are also urging any patients that meet the Medicare crit...eria to be bulk billed for a teleconference to utilise this avenue to access healthcare to avoid any unnecessary exposure. We do not have adequate personal protective equipment but we are currently seeing children with cold and flu symptoms in their cars to avoid transmission of any infection to any other patients. As the virus progresses we may need to change protocols to ensure we are keeping the community safe and containing spread of the virus. Thank you for your support and co-operation during this time. Please contact 96273550 between 8-12pm and 3-6pm for any questions or queries. See more

12.01.2022 Update: Sunday, 15th March 2020 Hi everyone. Thank you very much for sharing this post so widely . I cannot stress how important it is to get a positive messa...ge out to the Australian community that there is something that each of us can do, right now, to make a massive impact on the course of Covid-19 epidemic here. We have updated the graph today, Sunday the 15th of March 2020, with the amazing help of Tim Fazio (dead set legend ). This data is from the World Health Organisation, and we dont have the total number of infections in Australia for today. As you can see, Australia (in YELLOW) is still in the very early phase of the outbreak, we had a good starting point, but the upturn in the graph similar to the red countries is a bad sign. There is still time to make an impact, but that time is right now. There is disturbing news coming out of Europe and America. Look at the RED countries and LISTEN to the stories coming out of them. Hospitals are completely overrun in Northern Italy like there were in Wuhan, many patients cannot even be treated now, multiple doctors and nurses sick and intubated, so many deaths. Spain is soon to follow, as are cities in America. I am deeply sad for what we are about to see unfold. LOOK at the BLUE countries in Asia: Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan. They are so far ahead of us in this epidemic in time, but they have managed to "flatten the curve" massively. They have NOT had a hospital disaster, they have the capacity to treat their sick, and their communities will be OK. Countless lives have been saved. The difference between the RED and BLUE countries? Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan adopted personal and government-enforced social isolation and interpersonal distancing at the EARLIEST stages of the pandemic. They did not wait for a massive increase in cases, they LEARNED from their experience of SARS. As soon as they heard about the novel coronavirus in Wuhan and detected cases in their countries, the PEOPLE went into social isolation "mode". The symbol of this in Asia is everyone wearing a mask in public - the mask is a sign that everyone understands what is going on. The people of these countries *get it* because they have been through this before. The governments of these countries *get it*. I need Australians to WAKE UP and get it too, before it is too late. I cannot speak for the response of anyone else or any organisation. I am pleading with you to think about YOUR personal response. Lets not wait for anyone to save us, lets save ourselves . As a person that cares deeply about you, your families and the Australian community, I urge you to rapidly adopt a relatively strict version of social isolation and interpersonal distancing. This is what I am doing: 1. Do not leave your home if you do not need to. The safest place for you and your family in a viral epidemic is in your own home. 2. If you are able to work from home, do so. If you are a boss, please let your staff work from home as much as possible. Australians are smart, youll work it out. 3. When you go out, do not touch another person, in any way, unless you have to. Keep your paws to yourself . 4. When you go out, do not touch any surfaces that you do not need to. Keep your paws to yourself . 5. Cancel all non-essential meetings, find alternative ways to speak and meet online. 6. Wash you hands frequently, especially the moment you walk in your front door. 7. Dont touch your face. 8. Clean your phone several times a day, and dont leave it lying around when you are outside your home. 9. Find smart ways to support local businesses (buy a voucher online), artists (buy a song online ), but do it from the safety of your own home. 10. Talk to your friends, check on vulnerable people, listen to music, make memes, dance in your home, remember to laugh 11. Speak to every single person that is close to you, help them to understand what this social isolation "mode" is, why it is so important, and help them to start doing it, right now. Covid-19 is a virus that passes from person to person, directly or indirectly. If every Australian adopts these measures, we can break the line of transmission between people and avoid the disaster that we are witnessing unfold in the USA and Europe. It is early enough for us to do this, we have time, but a narrowing window to act decisively. It is possible I will get into trouble for saying all of this. But now I do not care, I know in my heart this is the right thing to do, and I am happy to accept any consequences. Please look after yourself, your family and friends . Think for yourself, fact check everything, use your feelings. If you agree that this is the right thing to do, please share this again as widely as possible, every day is critical now. Much love Original post (Friday 13th March 2020): A few people asked me where Australia is at the moment with Covid-19. We reached our 100th case on Tuesday the 10th of March (3 days ago, x-axis), and we now have 199 confirmed cases (y-axis) - Ive plotted this point with a red dot. We are testing really well, so it is a fairly accurate number, waaayyy more accurate than the USA which is on the precipice of a total disaster (separate story, Im so upset). Its at a very early part of the curve, but you can see we are doing really well compared to other industrialised nations (we want to be as close to the Japanese, Singaporean and Hong Kong curves as possible). The next two weeks is absolutely critical to the direction of this curve. Total social isolation, complete interpersonal distancing, combined with massively increased testing (which we have just built capacity for this week in our labs) will flatten this curve and save countless Australian lives. We can do this with no vaccine and no effective antivirals. Each individual simply has to make it their personal responsibility to have minimal contact with all other people. Cancel all unnecessary things. I am running my clinics by phone so patients dont have to come to hospital. We have a narrow window of opportunity to do this, this could not be more urgent. I hope you understand I would not say this if I was not absolutely sure of how critical this is. Please share with your family and friends. Sending lots of love, take care please Dan Suan MBBS FRACP FRCPA PhD **I have removed my affiliations as I am speaking for myself only, I do not represent the views of any organisation that I work for or am affiliated with**

10.01.2022 PANDA week 10-16 November ~ Its time to get real about perinatal anxiety and depression @PANDAnational A beautiful letter by @spiritysol to new mums. De...arest new mama- You are sore and leaky and more tired than you could have ever imagined. Everything is soaked in breast milk and tears. Everything hurts. Your body has literally stretched to its breaking point, or perhaps was cut open to make space for the miracle of life. Your heart aches with a love so huge it feels as though going to break you in half and sometimes you cant breathe because it all feels too big. They told you about the waves of birth but no one told you about the intense waves of postpartum- the euphoria and joy that lifts you up, and the heavy weight that drops you suddenly and leaves you sobbing into receiving blankets. You look back across the sea and the journey youve made- and in the distance you see the maiden you once were. So much has changed in so little time and you wonder if youll ever find your way back to that self. You wouldnt change this love for the world, but something inside you aches for familiar ground and the woman you once were. This is all so new and raw. But you will find your way, sweet mama. You have not left yourself behind, youve simply grown new wings. The maiden you with her carefree ways and wild spirit is still inside you, and always will be. Follow the compass of your heart. Allow the tears to fall. You will find your way, and your self will be waiting for you with open arms when you do.

09.01.2022 Thank you to Jaimie and his staff at cichetti and co for keeping us fuelled this week!!

08.01.2022 All Australians who need to have a medical consultation can do so via telephone. We can fax/post scripts and medical certificates and triage your symptoms as well as address health care concerns to minimise the need for coming into the clinics. Obviously not all consultations are possible over the phone but speak to your GP first before venturing out of the house. This will all be bulk billed under Medicare. People can now access bulk-billed telehealth consultations for a ran...ge of appointments, including with the following practitioners: GPs Psychologists Midwives Nurses Psychiatrists Paediatricians, speech pathologists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists for services for children with developmental delays Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners Social workers and dieticians for eating disorders For patients, you have to be located in Australia, eligible for Medicare and not an admitted patient to a hospital. Please call 96273550 to book in for a telephone consult

08.01.2022 Dear patients, If you have returned from affected areas or have been in contact with a patient with coronavirus in the last 14 days and If you become ill or feel unwell while travelling in China, you should not wait until you arrive back in Australia to seek medical assistance. Instead you should see a doctor or go to the local emergency department. If you develop a fever, a cough, sore throat or shortness of breath within 14 days of travel or have had contact with a person w...ith confirmed coronavirus, you should immediately isolate yourself from other people. Contact your GP or your emergency department or call the healthdirect helpline 1800 022 222 and seek medical attention as soon as possible. It is important to phone ahead so that the practice or emergency department can make appropriate preparations and protect others. When seeking medical care wear a surgical mask (if possible) otherwise ask for one when you arrive. Practice good hygiene by covering your coughs and sneezes and wash your hands thoroughly, for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. #schofieldsfamilymedicalpractice

06.01.2022 Covid-19 Travel Advice: 1. If you are planning to travel ANYWHERE in next few weeks, consider how essential it is. If it is not, think about deferring it until ...we learn more about where and how quickly this pandemic will evolve. 2. If you have ALREADY booked your March break to a Caribbean destination, or plan to travel to Europe (outside of Italy), you are likely fine and need not cancel your plans hastily. 3. If you are planning to visit China, Korea, Iran or Italy anytime soon...DONT. The containment level in all of these countries is not good and will likely continue to worsen. You are putting yourself at undue risk. 4. Remember to check updates on Covid-19 to learn more about how the situation is evolving. CDC and WHO websites are excellent. I prefer thewuhanvirus.com as it is updated frequently, its comprehensive and provides easy to see data on a lot of key metrics. 5. When considering travel plans anywhere, ask yourself the following? Is there a high rate of Covid-19 in this area or several new cases in the last week? If I need care in this country, are health care standards suboptimal? Is it possible that authorities might close borders or restrict my departure out of the country due to an outbreak? If you answer YES to any of these, you probably should not go to that destination. 6. Protect yourself properly no matter where you are. Wash your hands. Use hand sanitizer liberally. Dont touch your face, nose, eyes. Avoid high traffic areas whenever possible and stay at least 2 m away from anyone who is apparently sneezing, coughing or sick. 7. Skip the masks and the stockpiling for the Zombie Apocalypse. Common sense practices will be of much greater benefit to us all!

06.01.2022 It cant get any simpler than this. Immunologist Dan Suan explains what our government and people need to do to save ourselves. Share it. #coronavirus

05.01.2022 Last week, Dr Alka attended a conference learning about the importance of weight reduction, smoking cessation, and physical exercise in maintaining a healthy heart and preventing diabetes. Early detection of heart disease and diabetes is important to prevent disease progression. 05.01.2022 Please maintain social distancing Many people have asked for a covid -19 swab. Below is the current criteria:

04.01.2022 Schofields family medical practice and northwest dental and implant centre Christmas party

04.01.2022 Im a doctor and an Infectious Diseases Specialist. Ive been at this for more than 20 years seeing sick patients on a daily basis. I have worked in inner city ...hospitals and in the poorest slums of Africa. HIV-AIDS, Hepatitis,TB, SARS, Measles, Shingles, Whooping cough, Diphtheria...there is little I havent been exposed to in my profession. And with notable exception of SARS, very little has left me feeling vulnerable, overwhelmed or downright scared. I am not scared of Covid-19. I am concerned about the implications of a novel infectious agent that has spread the world over and continues to find new footholds in different soil. I am rightly concerned for the welfare of those who are elderly, in frail health or disenfranchised who stand to suffer mostly, and disproportionately, at the hands of this new scourge. But I am not scared of Covid-19. What I am scared about is the loss of reason and wave of fear that has induced the masses of society into a spellbinding spiral of panic, stockpiling obscene quantities of anything that could fill a bomb shelter adequately in a post-apocalyptic world. I am scared of the N95 masks that are stolen from hospitals and urgent care clinics where they are actually needed for front line healthcare providers and instead are being donned in airports, malls, and coffee lounges, perpetuating even more fear and suspicion of others. I am scared that our hospitals will be overwhelmed with anyone who thinks they " probably dont have it but may as well get checked out no matter what because you just never know..." and those with heart failure, emphysema, pneumonia and strokes will pay the price for overfilled ER waiting rooms with only so many doctors and nurses to assess. I am scared that travel restrictions will become so far reaching that weddings will be canceled, graduations missed and family reunions will not materialize. And well, even that big party called the Olympic Games...that could be kyboshed too. Can you even imagine? Im scared those same epidemic fears will limit trade, harm partnerships in multiple sectors, business and otherwise and ultimately culminate in a global recession. But mostly, Im scared about what message we are telling our kids when faced with a threat. Instead of reason, rationality, openmindedness and altruism, we are telling them to panic, be fearful, suspicious, reactionary and self-interested. Covid-19 is nowhere near over. It will be coming to a city, a hospital, a friend, even a family member near you at some point. Expect it. Stop waiting to be surprised further. The fact is the virus itself may cause you great harm or none at all. But our own behaviors and "fight for yourself above all else" attitude could prove disastrous. I implore you all. Temper fear with reason, panic with patience and uncertainty with education. We have an opportunity to learn a great deal about health hygiene and limiting the spread of innumerable transmissible diseases in our society. Lets meet this challenge together in the best spirit of compassion for others, patience, and above all, an unfailing effort to seek truth, facts and knowledge as opposed to conjecture, speculation and catastrophizing. Facts not fear. Clean hands. Open hearts. Our children will thank us for it. #washurhands #geturflushot #respect #patiencenotpanic

04.01.2022 Covid 19 update : Below is from another dr- Hi - things are ramping up. Info below is from NSW health, AHPPC, AMA and Aus department of health ... In Australia - 3,007 cases (as of 15.00 27/3/2020) I can only keep totally up to date on the situation in NSW however our national CFR (case fatality rate or death rate) has nearly doubled which is very concerning and heartbreaking. So for NSW (at 15.00 on 27/3/2020) 1436 - total cases 896 - Overseas acquired (still mainly Europe + US) 295 - known contacts or within known cluster 145 - local acquired origin unknown 105 - under investigation 7 died in NSW (13 in Australia in total) >77,000 tests done (our testing is now the highest per capita in the world) Hospital wards - 53 cases ICU - 20 covid positive patients, 9 are ventilated. So the first peak is upon us. 20 patients in ICU and 53 inpatients (which means they are sick enough to require some sort of monitoring or treatment and can deteriorate.) There are also 62 cases being treated at home - which have the potential to deteriorate. These are HUGE NUMBERS. What is concerning is that we are still in the EARLY PHASE. PLEASE STAY HOME AND AWAY FROM OTHER PEOPLE. CANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH RIGHT NOW. SOCIAL DISTANCING IS CRUCIAL NOW. Social distancing, rigorous contact tracing and effective self isolation - are the only 3 measures which can curtail the spread. Italy is 3 weeks ahead. US 4 weeks ahead. They both did not act effectively during the early stages and what we see unfolding is the result. US is only in the beginning of its peak. Now, I know the information above is scary - but there are some positives!! For example, 2/3 of the cases are from overseas returned travellers (refer to the first graph below)!! If we can minimise community transmission - we will literally save lives - so dont give up hope!! Calm, strong, endurance is what we need. Social distancing and social isolation are working!! And that is a positive when youre dealing with something like this virus. Important general info: 1) there are now dedicated respiratory/fever clinics - https://www.google.com/mymaps/viewer 2) 13 77 88 if anyone is in isolation and needs any deliveries. Or if you know of a vulnerable community member who you think needs to be checked upon 3) Police now have been granted additional powers to enforce quarantine. 4) If the anxiety gets too much - call lifeline 13 11 14 or your GP 5) regarding confusion from politicians - sometimes the announcements made by PM Scott Morrison will differ to our Premier Gladys Berejiklian and that is to be expected. PM is in charge of the National response - Gladys has the power to decide and enforce things within our state. It is a complex structure - I dont fully get it but thats usually the cause of the discrepancy. Additional: Im sure I have left off some important points and resources - will add them later tonight. Wanted to quickly put this up after our update.
