15.01.2022 Great information for kids(and adults) about saying hello to dogs from The Family Dog.

15.01.2022 We hear the term socialisation a lot. If you have a young pup you have probably heard that you need to socialise them. It is very important that experiences are always good ones and that your puppy is not worried or overwhelmed. Good socialisation can happen at a distance where your puppy is comfortable and relaxed. The socialisation period ends between 12-16 weeks for most pups. If you have an older puppy or dog that is fearful of other dogs, people or environments, you will also want to ensure that she is not overwhelmed and put in the situation where she is worried. Keep her at a distance where she is comfortable and where you can create good experiences for her. Here is a good article with more information https://www.clickertraining.com/dont-socialize-the-dog

13.01.2022 South Australia, we'd like to introduce you to some pretty impressive pooches These detector dogs have been trained to sniff out the scent produced by posit...ive cases of COVID-19 and are taking part in a trial at Adelaide Airport to see if dogs could boost frontline efforts Read more about it here: https://ab.co/3gHxXTd : Brant Cumming & Sarah Mullins, ABC News

12.01.2022 Congratulations to all of our students who graduated from their Life Skills Course on Saturday!

11.01.2022 Arlo has been pretty chilled with thunder and lightening for the past 3 years but with an unexpected, very close and loud gunshot on a country walk a few months ago and last weekend's long storm, he became stressed with the thunder and lightening. I got him a Thundershirt last week, put it on a couple of times and gave some yummy treats. He is happily wearing it for our current storm. Thundershirts are readily available in Pet Stores.

10.01.2022 Wondering how you are going to keep your dog happy for the next 6 days in SA.... If you have a puppy, young dog or an active dog of any age, mental stimulation is going to be key. Teach your dog some new training exercises or tricks, feed meals from puzzle toys (commercial or homemade) or play some fun games together. Here is a good article with lots of ideas to get you started. https://www.puppyleaks.com/more-mental-stimulation/

04.01.2022 Teaching tricks is a great way to keep your dog exercised - both physically and and mentally. Wondering what tricks to teach or how to teach a particular trick? Check out https://www.domorewithyourdog.com/trickdog/ You'll also find a list of Facebook classes (there are a number of Australian instructors). You can even earn titles from home - these can give structure to your training. Great for children and adults. Titles can be done with other pets too -cats, rats, guinea pigs, ponies....
