05.01.2022 Humans are not the only victims of domestic violence. Animals are often abused by domestic violence perpetrators. Such abuse can be physical, psychological and .../or neglect and can occur when an animal is protecting the victim, or to punish, intimidate or coerce the human victim into doing something. Some people do not leave a violent home due to fears for their pets and the belief that there is nowhere to escape to with their animals. Our Inner West Domestic Violence Liaison Officers (DVLO's) recognise that animals are family members too, and deserve to live a life free from fear and abuse. Our DVLOs are well aware of the animal abuse / domestic violence link and are equipped with great resources, contacts and advice to assist people needing to escape a violent home with their animals. Please call our Inner West Police DVLO's on 9550 8113 should you require any further information..
