13.05.2022 TURNING AROUND // Last year was a big one! It was our 10th year and our grand plans had to take a back seat as the world changed before our eyes. Shoutout to the Year 12 students who still completed their final year of school and found creative ways to celebrate! For us, it was the first time since 2011 that we didn't run any trips. This gave us a chance to refocus and reflect and we're so proud of everything that Schoolies Rev has achieved over the last decade. - 225 stude...nts on 19 trips, touching ground in 8 countries, supported by 36 leaders - Over $15,000 donated to 10 different local partners and their projects - 86 flights - 1 missed flight - 14 lost bags - 4 stitches (nice one Joel!) and numerous hospital visits - Over 400 blog posts and 20 vlogs (thanks Fambodia 2017!) - Hundreds of balloons blown up, faces painted, clapping games played - Countless hours of lost sleep - Countless devotions and debriefs and deep conversations - Heaps of creative fundraising ventures (bush dance mems!) - Thousands of students across 11 different schools hearing the story each year This calls for a VERY BIG THANK YOU from all of us to all of you. Thanks for journeying with us over the last ten years! We are grateful for daring students, trusting parents, generous leaders, supportive HopeBuilders, and everyone who has all supported us over the years! From the start, the vision was to offer a schoolies alternative that has a positive impact on students and the world around them. And this is still the vision! But with overseas travel so uncertain, the outworking of that vision will change. So we are looking closer to home for opportunities and we're asking for your input in three important ways. 1. FRESH BLOOD. The bones of ye olde Core Team are creaking, so we're inviting anyone with a big heart for schoolies and a willingness to invest behind the scenes to get in touch about joining us and dreaming about what’s ahead. 2. AN AUSTRALIAN MINISTRY PARTNER. We want to partner with organisations that are doing great work in our own backyard! Do you know of a local organisation that is meeting local needs, would be happy to host teams and partner with us? 3. PRAY. We believe God has done some amazing things in Schoolies Rev over the last ten years and we're seeking his direction for the future! We do hope to return to our overseas trips in due time, as we believe there is still much we can learn from other cultures and ways that we can help and support. However we will only so when it is safe and we have adequate time to prepare properly. Until then, we want to embrace the season we are in and stay true to the vision and heart of Schoolies Rev! So get in contact with us (email [email protected] or private message our page) if you have ideas or you’re keen to get involved, and stay tuned for the next chapter in this exciting story! Love, the Schoolies Rev team

09.01.2022 UPDATE | What a strange and challenging year we are in! Just six months ago we were debriefing our trips and beginning our preparations for this year! Our world has been turned upside-down and we especially empathise with those we focus on: the countries we visit who are doing it extra tough, our partners who are struggling to meet the needs of those around them, and Year 12 students completing their high school education in the midst of uncertainty and struggle. Following... is a bit of update of where we are at. While our disappointment is far from the pain that many are going through but we know some students were interested in what we were hoping to do this year, so hence a short update. It has obviously become clear that we won’t be able to run overseas trips this year and so we began to brainstorm some ideas of doing something closer to home, in areas of need around our country. However, we’ve made the call to not run any trips of any sort this year. We are committed to running trips that are holistically ethical, sustainable, positive, and healthy, and preparation is a huge part of that. With the current lockdown in Victoria, our window to prepare a trip and a team is rapidly closing and we feel we cannot reach a healthy standard of preparation. The last thing we want to do is rush something and do more harm than good. We are pretty sad as we know there are limited options for a positive schoolies experience for Year 12s this year! We are still open to ideas and suggestions of ways we can be involved and support Year 12s and we will definitely keep thinking in this area. We are also pretty sad as this is our 10th year of Schoolies Rev! We were planning for some big celebrations and that is all looking unlikely. But we believe there is still plenty to be grateful for and plenty to celebrate! So we will be sharing some stuff over social media down the track, as we want to reflect on all that has happened so far, as well as raise some funds for our partners in need. So stay tuned! From the team at Schoolies Rev, we encourage you to stay connected to people, reach out if you need help, be generous with what you have, and know the nearness of God See more
