22.01.2022 This time last year a single squad would have been formed on the parade ground, marking a low ebb in maritime CIS training. Today - nine squads, covering Initial Employment, Visual Signalling and Fleetwork, Intermediate-Communication Systems and Intermediate-Information Systems training. An outstanding Navy day.
19.01.2022 Today marked the graduation of Intermediate-Communication Systems s007 from Maritime CIS Wing, HMAS Cerberus. With CO HMAS Cerberus, CAPT Michael Oborn, CSM, RAN attending, a big congratulations to the following sailors: * ABCIS Lillyman - Course Dux * ABCIS Matauaina - Warfare Community Medallion... Graduates will now return to the Fleet delivering new communications and information warfare capability to ships and establishments. Bravo Zulu all!
17.01.2022 The Melbourne Legacy bears have arrived and kicked the fundraising up to the next level! As a tri-service training establishment we are lucky enough to have DFSS members from Army, Navy and RAAF supporting Legacy in the CBD today. #legacyday #legacyweek #supportingfamilies
17.01.2022 And that's ENDEX! Also know as "time to head home." A big thank you to all the staff and trainees of DFSS today for your wonderful efforts. Thank you to Melbourne Legacy for giving us the opportunity and for the work you do every day to assist the families of our veterans. Finally thank you to the people of Melbourne for your generous support, and for not getting too grumpy about your trains being full of Defence members this morning/this afternoon.... See you all next year! #legacyday #legacyweek #supportingfamilies
15.01.2022 The final push for Melbourne Legacy before DFSS withdraws back to Simpson Barracks this afternoon. A credit to our staff and trainees that they're still smiling almost 8 hours after first arriving in the CBD. #legacyday #legacyweek #supportingfamilies
15.01.2022 This Wednesday, 31 Oct, the DFSS Maritime CIS Wing won the Cerberus "Spartan Challenge". The race took competitors through the obstacle course and the nearby mangrove mud flats. First place overall for base was AB Nick Francis along with other team members SMN Josh white, AB Amanda Prins, SMN Brandon White-Jennings, SMN Jack Rollings & SMN Laine Benyon. Well done Comms Team.
14.01.2022 Advanced CIS Manager Course s009 concluded today at Maritime Wing. Congratulations to all graduates, especially to Chief Petty Officer Hayes (Course Dux) and Chief Petty Officer Tanner (Warfare Community Medallion). Great job, team!
14.01.2022 On Friday 9th and Sunday 11th November 2018, trainees from DFSS along with Petty Officers from Cerberus and musicians from the Australian Army Band Melbourne performed Catafalque Party duties at AAMI Park for Remembrance Day, commemorating the centenary of Armistice Day. With precision, they mounted the Catafalque Party whilst Master of Ceremonies Mr Peter Smith OAM, himself a Vietnam veteran, led the crowd in a solemn ceremony.
08.01.2022 Almost good to go. The finishing touches are being applied to the new Navy-sponsored Communication Centre (COMCEN) Simulator, located at HMAS Cerberus. Three classrooms have been equipped to extend the COMCEN environment beyond the Simulator, allowing faster throughput of trainees and students, using a system soon to be familiar in the Fleet. The simulator has the ability to operate either as a single ship, or concurrently as two independent ships. It will allow all CIS sailo...rs to prove their skills in a scenario-based environment. Once completed, several months of testing and integration will occur before full-scale use. Exciting times at Maritime Wing.
08.01.2022 DFSS and Melbourne Legacy got a visit from the Federal Minister for Veterans' Affairs, the Hon. Darren Chester MP. Catching up with the soldiers, sailors and airmen/airwomen fundraising around the CBD, the Minister was very impressed with the great work they're doing. #legacyday #legacyweek #supportingfamilies
07.01.2022 Leading Seaman Brooke Rudezky and Seaman* Joshua White helping out one of Legacy’s supporters on Bourke Street Mall.
01.01.2022 A day without visual signalling and fleetwork is a day wasted. The White-Jennings brothers were hard at it today on Maritime Wing's training masts sending and receiving tactical signals using flags. A new naval dynasty in the making. Able Seaman White-Jennings is undertaking Intermediate-Communication Systems training; while his brother Seaman* White-Jenning's is undertaking Initial Employment Training to qualify as a CIS sailor.... Starboard Outer - Close Up!
01.01.2022 Soldiers scramble to get their hands on the ever popular Melbourne Legacy bears during a resupply. A quick drink, something to eat and it's back out onto the streets to get these bears into charitable hands. #legacyday #legacyweek #supportingfamilies
