23.01.2022 Earth building followed by a super high tide swim to wash off the heat of the day and enough red clay sand ochre to colour the water orange! Thank you to our island home for such a wonderful day. We thank the Quandamooka people of the past, present and future for their ongoing custodianship of this country.

23.01.2022 I realised this week that the kindest thing you can do for a person is to perceive of them as a child...Treat everyone as though you see and appreciate the child they were/are. Not like an arsehole obviously. Without condescension. The way you would like to see a small child treated. The way you would like your own beautiful child to be treated. ... Especially teenagers. Notice sparkling curiosity and allow time for it, check faces for fear, shame or sadness and reassure, hold space and be loving. Offer gentle advice and try to notice little successes, notice patterns and find out about favourite colours, animals etc. Be interested, ask non-business questions. We all learn and grow each day. Allow for the freedom to fail, fall and get up again, perhaps with the help of your hand or hug but only if it feels right. Support physical needs as if they were your own, take care. Never project judgement or ridicule and always be prepared to apologise if things become heated. Include your own inner child. We are all affected emotionally in different ways each day. We all deserve to giggle, play, hide, run, read, tell ridiculous stories, push physical boundaries, love, cry and learn freely. Reaching life’s physical milestones (growing up) shouldn’t mean giving up our access to love and support, to magic and wildness. As adults, mentors, Elders etc we gain depth, resources and the ability to include others. If we remain open hearted and see the children in everyone we can train our influence toward conscious positive change.

19.01.2022 A morning walk through a secluded forest. There’s a private beach down there and a moss covered pathway surrounded by native plants and minimal evidence of humans. This place changes from one ecosystem to the next as bush meets littoral rainforest, mangroves and the sea.

15.01.2022 We ventured out across the floor of the sea to a mysterious and illusive island. We explored and played before the ocean returned and behind us our secret island disappeared again... #beachschool #islandlife #lowtide #secretisland

13.01.2022 Visitors to Dalpura Beach... don’t be afraid.. These creepy creatures were all hand made!

13.01.2022 Jacob's footage of the baby humpback calf we watched for most of the morning. Just off the point in our quiet bay with Mum and an older sibling who couldn't see...m to contain his jumping spirit! No video of the jumps (glad Jacob kept his distance and wasn't destroyed out there) but I caught a couple of photos from the beach. Looking forward to seeing Tiffany’s photos when they’re ready! We were relieved to see boats and jetskis slow right down, stop and witness a most timely reminder of what an honour it is to live in this magificent marine park.

11.01.2022 This tremendous human makes my day every time we hang out.. (Since he was a tiny wild island baby). Bushman skills at 100%. Be the Bush.... He’s as hilarious as he is honourable. If your shelter is going to be that close to mine we are probably going to need a trade agreement, you’ll be glad we did. Said to a much smaller child. Full disclosure. Kids do it well when they feel safe enough to speak truthfully.

09.01.2022 More beautiful humpback dance moves captured by our friend Luke just around the corner. They’re staying close and we are so grateful for their presence and our own on Quandamooka Country/Seas. So so truly awesome. Photography: Luke Jobson 2020

05.01.2022 Cyanotype Print Photography. Created by children aged between four and sixteen today with guidance from local artist @hey_harriet The kids found this amazing process captivating and everyone loved the results of their work. ... A record of today’s high treasures taken the way botanist Anna Atkins recorded specimens in the 19th century. Thank you so much Tracy! Looking forward to learning more of your arty science magic next term .

01.01.2022 After fire and rain life is ready to spring forth in various forms. This week we spotted patches of enormous, fleshy and rich smelling fungi regularly eaten by traditional custodians of this land and others. The fruiting bodies emerge after fire from an underground tuber. Pre-smoked! ... Labelled in Western terms as Laccocephalum mylittae and commonly native bread or *respectfully blackfella’s bread. Sounds, smells, feels and looks so delicious.. Our spidey senses told us we had found food. I’m thinking of returning to the site today to collect a sample without any kids in tow.
