17.01.2022 And we’re done with remote learning for 2020 (Well.... we better be ) I do have to say I’m going to miss knowing what this kid is up to each day, I’ll miss the slow mornings, and I’ll even miss her teacher and his calming voice echoing through our house ... But I will not miss the relentless pressure on me... on her... and on her little sister who so often ended up being the one left out I’m sure we’ll look back and only remember the good times and that’s totally ok with me! 17 weeks of learning at home, instead of at school, and we went out with a bang... someone gets to be ‘Star of the Week’ first week back We did it Melbourne! We actually bloody did it Ps I can’t believe how grown up my little Prep student looks but I am about to launch into the mathematical concept of fractions and how much cake is actually appropriate See more

15.01.2022 Did you know that you can start learning to read by teaching only 5 sounds of the alphabet? S A T N P These letters can be combined to make nearly 50 words which is the reason that when learning letter sounds these are the first 5 our children need to learn.... Which is also why our Beginning Sound Sort Game uses the sounds from the letters S A T N P to develop your child’s phonemic awareness (being able to hear the individual sounds in words) starting with the easiest.... the beginning sounds. S for Snake A for Apple T for Table N for Net P for Pig In each of our School Readiness Toolkits we include a range of activities, experiences and resources to introduce your child to preliteracy skills which are essential BEFORE learning to read. Another tip: Make sure you teach your child to recognise both the lower and upper case letters and also the many common fonts letters appear. 14.01.2022 This is a fabulous article explaining how important learning through play is. Particularly for those families who may be worried about their child attending school next year. These anxieties are understandable, but your child’s preparedness for school may surprise you. School readiness IS NOT about ... Lining up in a straight line.... Counting to 100. Knowing the alphabet. Being able to sit on the mat for long periods of time. Ready children... have dispositions for learning such as problem-solving skills and persistence that help them stay focused on learning. If you scroll to the bottom of the article you’ll also find explanations on the five learning outcomes from the Early Years Learning Framework which educators use to monitor the progress of children’s learning and development. There are also some wonderful examples of play based learning you can do at home.... you will find that many examples are actually included in our School Readiness Toolkits Please share and tag families with children starting school in 2021 so that they can also feel a sense of confidence and understanding about what they can do at home to help their little ones be ready for school.

14.01.2022 Some great points to help children follow instructions

13.01.2022 Victorian schools are tipped to reopen in Term Four as case numbers drop.... Education Minister James Merlino says he is confident that students in Victoria will return to the classroom in term four, based on the downward trend in community transmission of COVID-19 under stage four restrictions Speaking separately, Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said case numbers were "heading in the right direction" for schools to reopen "at some stage in term four. I think it will b...e staggered but I absolutely hope we can get there. Tutors are also likely to be recruited to help students who have fallen behind during Victoria’s extended period of remote learning catch up on lost learning, Mr Merlino told the parliamentary committee hearing. This will be a feature not only for term four as we return to face-to-face teaching but particularly for term one next year, he said. It could include a tutor working with a group of four or five students whose learning is at a similar level, in sessions of 30 to 40 minutes, three times a week. Students in grades one and prep could also receive one-on-one tutoring to develop phonemic awareness, and secondary students could receive extra support on their numeracy and literacy. The extra assistance would be paid for using schools' equity funding.

12.01.2022 Nursery rhymes are a powerful learning source in early literacy. 12.01.2022 Hands on learning Learning by doing is so much more fun and engaging than just being expected to learn by being told. It also develops a wider range of knowledge and skills. Did you know that an experience which requires multiple activities such as talking, listening, and using the hands combined, activates more areas of the brain than a single activity like tracing or colouring in?! ... The first six years of a child life is being recognised as a critical period for development. The brain is split into two sides or hemispheres, with each side responsible for different skills, as well as controlling the opposite side of the body. This is why our School Readiness Toolkits all require hands on learning! Because it’s the best way to learn www.schoolreadinesstoolkits.com.au See more
