25.01.2022 Stage 3.1 Still No Spectators Please It is great news that restrictions are easing across some aspects of life, however we have checked in with the Education Directorate and 3.1 does not change the interschool sport conditions of 100 people maximum at SSACT events. Therefore we ask, as we head into the second week of our Secondary events, that parents continue their cooperation and compliance with the requirement to drop off and pick up from the venue car park and not stay as a spectator. Many Thanks

24.01.2022 Regional Results Week 9 Term 2 Weren't we lucky squeezing in the 12&U and 13&O ACT Cross Country Championships on Wednesday before the heavy rain and ACT Sportsground closures came into affect? Cold conditions for our Cross Country runners, but all did their very best, and some achieving outstanding results. A big thank you to our AACT volunteer support crew who did an amazing job across the 8 SSACT Cross Country events - we are very lucky to have their assistance. Full resul...ts can be found on the Cross Country page of the website. Today saw the conclusion of our Secondary Volleyball program also with the ACT Championships conducted at the National Hockey Centre. Watching students play at this level is always entertaining - many of the finals games went to 3 sets taking it down to the wire for a result. Congratulations to all students who represented their schools admirably, and thank you to Event Coordinator Darren and for the support from Volleyball ACT. 24.01.2022 SSACT Regional Results Week 7 We managed to play catch up this week with two of our washed out events taking place a little later than initially scheduled; Secondary North 7/8 Boys and Secondary North 9/10 Girls Football, both at Dickson Playing Fields. Thank you to our Event Coordinators Andrew and Farah, once again for ensuring that both days ran without a hitch, and to our student referees for making the time to officiate and support SSACT events. 22.01.2022 Congratulations to former SSACT 12&U Track and Field Representative Ari Gesini for being awarded a 2021 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship, which will see him partnered with another ACT Great, George Gregan, in a Scholarship and Mentoring Program. Congratulations to all Award recipients!

18.01.2022 SSACT Regional Results - Week 9 Very pleased with the decision to postpone from last week's miserable Wednesday for the gorgeous sunny Wednesday this week for the Secondary North 9/10 Girls Netball at Lyneham. A great event to finish off our Term 3 regional events, largely due to the organisation of Event Coordinators Brad and John and to the wonderful student umpires stepping in to officiate where needed when we were left short. All 9 teams played with great spirit and sportsmanship, congratulations to the winners St Francis Xavier College and runners up Campbell High School. Enjoy the last week of Term 3 and have a safe holiday break!

18.01.2022 12&U and 13&O ACT Cross Country Championships are going ahead tomorrow Aware there might be some concerns for the weather tomorrow, to clarify the rain forecast is light, with the 95% referring to 0.2mm as shared in the BoM Rain explained below, for tomorrow and not likely until the afternoon/evening. As we all know forecasts aren't always reliable so have your students prepared for light rain if it comes earlier in the day. A good idea is to bring a garbage bag to keep their bag and warm clothes dry whilst they compete. As shared with all Cross Country events this year, due to COVID conditions please 'Race and Go' to ease crowd congestion.

18.01.2022 2021 School Sport Australia Championship Announcement Due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 impact on interstate travel and student participation restrictions into the beginning of the 2021 school year, the School Sport Australia Board has determined that the 18&U Baseball, 17&U Softball and 18&U Tennis Championships scheduled for April-May next year will be postponed. Further details can be found on the SSA website.

17.01.2022 Regional Results Week 7 Term 2 Another week where we got lucky with the weather and were able to conduct the Primary South/Weston Region Cross Country, Secondary North Boys Volleyball both on Wednesday and Primary North/Gungahlin Region Cross Country - OK, today was very chilly and we couldn't see the course until 9.30 at Stromlo but it at least it didn't rain.... Congratulations to the hundreds of students who competed at the Cross Country events, many pushing themselves bey...ond what they thought they could achieve. South/Weston Region results are up on the website and ACT qualifiers sent to schools, North/Gungahlin Region results should be available to view early next week. Once again a big thank you to our Athletics ACT and school provided volunteers - these events would not operate without them. Thanks also to Event Coordinators Claire, Jess and Amy. 17 teams competed in the Secondary North Boys Volleyball on Wednesday, wonderful to see students coming together as a team to represent their school. 15.01.2022 SSACT Regional Results Week 8 Only the one event this week with the North 9/10 Girls Netball postponed until next week, the 9/10 Boys Netball Day at Calwell. Always entertaining to see the mix of netballers with their basketball and football buddies navigating the rules and strategies of Netball By all accounts a great day, largely due to the organisation of Event Coordinators Lindsey and Dan, the time and expertise of our student officials along with the fun spirit of the... 80+ boys participating. 14.01.2022 Regional Results Week 4 This week SSACT conducted 3 regional secondary events, luckily got away with the weather and saw some very talented students at play. We would like to thank Event Coordinators Mark, Farah and Andrew for their organisational efforts and to the amazing student referees who took the lead with great composure and maturity. Please don't think we can't take a good photo - it is too difficult to get media consent from the hundreds of students participating so... we have to get creative :) Congratulations to all the students who represented their schools so well, here are our eventual top two finishers for each day. Secondary South 7/8 Girls Football Winners - St Clare's College Runners Up - Alfred Deakin High School Secondary South 7/8 Boys Football Winners - Telopea Park School Runners Up - Alfred Deakin High School Secondary North 7/8 Girls Football Winners - Merici College Runners Up - Canberra High School See more

13.01.2022 Secondary North 9/10 Girls Football Postponed Our crazy year of trying to conduct events continues. Due to ongoing chilly, windy and wet weather forecast for this week and over saturated fields, it has been decided to postpone this Friday's scheduled North 9/10 Girls Football day. The event has been rescheduled for Friday 4 September where all Stage 3.1 restrictions, including no spectators, will remain in place. All participating schools have been notified. Stay warm and dry everyone!

13.01.2022 Discounted Uniform Items Available School Sport ACT has taken the opportunity to redesign a few of our uniform items for 2021. They were to be introduced this year but as we all know 2020 has not always been agreeable to the following of plans The introduction of a new Track Jacket, Track Pant and Hoodie mean we have the opportunity to sell the few current design items in stock at a discount. The opportunity to purchase discounted items is only available to our past represe...ntative families. All remaining items will be sold at half price (or less) with Track Jackets, Pants and Hoodie all available for $25, discounted down from their usual $50 and $60. Due to limited numbers and range of sizes please contact Aaron at [email protected] with your request to confirm eligibility to purchase and then we will put you in contact with One Sport in Fyshwick to check for size availability, make direct payment and pick up. 13.01.2022 Secondary North 9/10 Girls Netball Postponed Hard to believe after the last few days of beautiful Spring weather, but the forecast for this Wednesday is 95% chance of 6-15mm of rain, too risky for what will become a slippery playing surface at the Lyneham Netball Courts. For this reason it has been decided to postpone the scheduled Secondary North 9/10 Girls Netball day from this Wednesday to next Wednesday 16 September. Same venue, same no spectator restrictions. All participating schools have been notified.

12.01.2022 SSACT Regional Results Week 5 Two SSACT regional events were able to be held this week; Secondary South 9/10 Girls Football and Secondary South 9/10 Boys Football. Both events were conducted in the capable hands of Event Coordinator Megan at Mawson Playing Fields in windy conditions. Thanks to the game officials who braved the cold to fulfill their valuable role, and to the parents for their continued cooperation with car park drop off and pick up only. Both days were played ...with great sportsmanship and enjoyment as our students relished being able to play against friends from other schools. Congratulations to our top two finishers for each day; Secondary South 9/10 Girls Winners - Mount Stromlo High School Runners Up - Telopea Park School Secondary South 9/10 Boys Winners - Alfred Deakin High School Runners Up - Melrose High School See more

11.01.2022 After a year that saw very little representative sport played, we are very grateful to all of our students, parents, teachers and community sport colleagues who made sure we had a great term 3 and 4 in regional sport participation. We have had some good news in regard to the three postponed 2021 School Sport Australia Championships - all having been found new dates later in the year, go to the SSA website 2021 Calendar for provisional dates. Wishing our School Sport ACT community a wonderful and safe Christmas and holiday break - and a hopeful return to what we do best in 2021!

06.01.2022 Secondary North 7/8 Boys Football Postponed With the forecast for this Wednesday predicting 80% chance of rain and a possible thunderstorm it has been decided to postpone the scheduled North 7/8 Boys Football event to the anticipated date of Wednesday 2 September, final confirmations underway. Venue will still be Dickson and the condition of no spectators and parent drop off/pick up from the car park will still be in place. Participating schools have been notified so please anticipate a renewed permission note once all has been confirmed for the new date.

04.01.2022 No Spectators Please With the first of SSACTs thirteen Secondary Netball and Football events starting tomorrow, we would like to remind all parents and carers that there are to be NO spectators at the venues. We know you love to cheer on your children, as we all do, but with the Education Directorate's strict conditions allowing the return to interschool sport we must abide by the 100 people maximum restriction - this includes all adults. We are at capacity with 85 students a...nd the required supervising 15 adults. There is no 'grey area' for parents to stand behind a fence or watch from their cars as we don't have the human resources to police this, nor should teachers or SSACT staff be put in the position to do so. We need your cooperation and compliance - if we are monitored and discovered not being compliant, all interschool sport will be at risk and we all don't want to see that happen. The same restrictions apply to State Sport Organisations running their Secondary and Primary interschool events across this term. Please drop off and pick up your child from the car park similarly to school drop offs at the moment. SSACT is adhering to all COVID-19 Safety Practices during our events in regard to personal and frequent touch point hygiene and the social distancing of adults. Thank you in advance we really appreciate your support. See more

04.01.2022 Primary North/Gungahlin Region Cross Country will be going ahead tomorrow Friday 4 June as planned.

02.01.2022 SSACT Cross Country Event Attendance + Weather Note We have been fortunate in receiving exemption approval from the ACT Chief Health Officer to conduct all 8 of our Regional and ACT Cross Country events across the next 4 weeks as they each attract more than 1000 attendees, however this approval does come with some conditions; > Stay home if unwell and get tested if experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, no matter how mild. This applies to students, staff and spectators. People ar...e not to attend if they have been in a COVID affected area or identified as a close contact of a positive case. > Race and Go - whilst we have not placed restrictions on spectators please plan to watch your child race and leave the venue as soon as possible after to relieve crowd numbers. > Maintain social distancing and hand hygiene practices. > Adults and students over 16 years old are to utilise the CBR Check in App on arrival at the venue, QR code located on the pavilion. Inclement Weather Cross Country season is known for being wet and chilly, please note Stromlo Forest Park is an all weather track and events will not be postponed for light rain, please ensure your child is prepared for the weather conditions. Postponement of an event for over 1000 participants will only occur if Stromlo Forest Park closes the track or thunderstorms/very heavy rain are forecast. The call to postpone will happen prior to the day so schools can be notified.
