Theyve been working with researchers around the world, including a team at the Mount Kent observatory, south of Toowoomba to learn more about this new planet, which they believe to be around the size of Neptune and have a temperature of around 1000 C You can read more about the discovery here: https://www.abc.net.au//usq-nasa-...discover-new-ear/12398056 Picture Credit: NASA

25.01.2022 Happy birthday to Hedy Lamarr, who was born November 9, 1914! 24.01.2022 NASAs next-generation Mars rover Perseverance has blasted off from Floridas Cape Canaveral last week. The rocket burn that will deliver the rover to the surface will be intentionally mis-aimed slightly so that the rocket will not land on Mars, as the centaur upper stage is not sterilised - quarantining is important even in deep space! The Perseverance marks NASAs ninth journey to the Martian surface, and will conduct an experiments in converting the carbon dioxide-rich atmosphere of Mars into a propellant for future rockets launching off the planets surface and to see if it is possible to use the carbon in the atmosphere to produce breathable oxygen for future astronauts Image credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech

23.01.2022 Last week marked the 200th birthday of Eunice Newton Foote (17 July 1819 - 30 September 1888), an early female climate science pioneer. Her experiments in the 1850s demonstrated her theory that changing the proportion of carbon dioxide in the Earths atmosphere would increase the average atmospheric temperature, becoming the first person to first to demonstrate what we now call the greenhouse effect - a contribution that was all but forgotten until her paper was rediscovered by retired petroleum geologist Ray Sorenson in 2010.
