23.01.2022 Thinking about a career in science journalism? There are many courses available for undergrad and postgrad students, which we've begun compiling on our website. Plus one of the best ways to learn about the industry is... to hear from those already working in it! Join SJAA to get access to our groups and to meet those in the industry at our networking events. https://sjaa.org.au/courses/australia/

22.01.2022 We've got our first event on tomorrow! It's an online masterclass in Freedom of Information (FOI) requesting. It's members-only, so make sure to get your SJAA membership (via https://sjaa.org.au/become-a-member/) and we'll send you information and a link to join the webinar. ----------------------------------------- What really goes on behind the closed doors of politicians' offices or in the locked filing cabinets of government departments? Many spectacular and impactful wor...ks of journalism have been built around these gleaming pearls of information, and Freedom of Information (FOI) laws are the oyster knife that journalists can use to prise them out. Join Michael Slezak, ABC national science, technology and environment reporter, and Lyn Kemmis, senior lawyer at SBS, as they talk about their considerable experience with FOI, how FOI requests can be made, what they can uncover, what are the challenges and limitations, and how FOI laws and regulations work. The one-hour webinar will be held on Wednesday 26 February, moderated by SJAA president Bianca Nogrady, and there will be up to half an hour for questions at the end. This free event is for SJAA members only.
