25.01.2022 Mt Stromlo Observatory in conjunction with the Canberra Astronomical Society invite you to join their virtual public astronomy night tonight Friday 21 August. #ScienceWeek. Remotely via Mt Stromlo Observatory Facebook Live www.facebook.com/MtStromlo/live/. Schedule is approximate and weather dependent. There will be an opportunity for Q&A at the end of each talk. -- 7:00pm Professor Penny King: Lift Off to Mars Exciting News About the Red Planet Why do scientists send s...pace craft to Mars? What have we found and what do we hope to find? When will humans get to go? Join Prof. Penny King for a virtual journey to Mars! -- 7:35pm Stargazing with Dr Brad Tucker (weather dependent) -- 7:50pm Professor Kate Reynolds: "Mutiny in space? Team risks and opportunities for spaceflight missions." What makes a highly effective space crew? How do we assess team functioning? What happens if things go wrong? Rather than only focusing on the selection and training of individual astronauts, in this talk the study of teams and gaps in knowledge are outlined. -- 8:25pm Stargazing with Dr Brad Tucker (weather dependent)

24.01.2022 Did you know? More than two-thirds of all current and former astronauts have been involved in Scouting. Of the 24 men to travel to the moon on the Apollo 8 and Apollo 10 through 17 missions, 20 were Scouts, including 11 of the 12 moonwalkers, and all three members of the crew of Apollo 13. 24.01.2022 Since inception when SciScouts really took off in 2015, we have been doing the whole Plan> Do> Review> Adapt thing. Each year, each event and series of activities has had things go well and some that go not so well! As you would have realised, the SciScouts team and partners have adapted to the challenges of 2020 to bring all Scouts interested in #science the best experiences possible. Our aim is to inspire that next Special Interest Area project, or maybe someones career ch...oices. One benefit being realised out of the 2020 challenge is that we have been able to reach out and include Scouts well outside of the Australian Capital Territory in the opportunities. With that in mind, we also happened to find one of the original badges from 2015 and recently dropped it in a badge envelope for a Joey Scout participant in Victoria. Hope it brings a smile! Keep loving science & never stop shooting for the stars! See more

23.01.2022 Plan>Do>Review! Sounds a bit like Scouts...or MacGyver?! Its a bit hard to tell the difference sometimes.
