21.01.2022 People often ask me why I became a Chiropractor - this is my Why!! At 12yo, after having seen a Chiropractor since early childhood, I had an orthopaedic surge...on tell me (and mum) that I required spinal surgery to correct my scoliosis and would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 30 if I didn't have the surgery (Photo is recent X-rays) It was my Chiropractor, who was aware of my scoliosis at the time, that told us to consider other non-invasive options. Yes! that included Chiropractic care, as well as lifestyle advice, education and specific postural exercises. We then diligently monitored and assessed the Scoliosis as I progressed through adolescence. Do I still have a crocked spine - YES! Has it got worse since I was a teenager - NO! Does it stop me doing anything - HELL NO! At now 43yo, am I in a wheelchair - NO! Is surgery sometimes the best option for others - Of course Would I be the person I am, the athlete I am, if I had the recommended surgery as a teenager - I DON'T BELIEVE SO! Am I glad I made the choice I did - YOU BET! Am I grateful I had a choice - EVERYDAY! Am I inspired to help other young people know their choices when it comes to THEIR spinal health and overall wellbeing - ABSOLUTELY Informed choices and Health Care options, I believe, is an absolute human right. The capacity to choose what is best for YOU should never be restricted.
