24.01.2022 Beautiful Nellie received her cartrophen injection today. Cartrophen is a plant based medication called a disease modifying osteoarthritis drug. It works to stimulate the body to produce more cartilage and joint fluid and stops the destructive enzymes that break down cartilage. Cartrophen is injected painlessly under the skin once a week for four weeks. The majority of dogs show an obvious reduction in pain and much more willingness to play and move around. If you have noticed your middle-aged or older dog slowing down lately it may be a sign of arthritis. I can come and give them a check over and discuss some ways in which we can make their mobility easier in these colder months.

14.01.2022 10 week old Thor had his second puppy vaccination yesterday. At 6 weeks Thor was diagnosed with a heart murmer however, thankfully there was no sign of this yesterday at his 10 week check. Whilst some heart murmers can be significant of serious underlying issues, puppies can often have grade one or two murmers that they will often grow out of. Thor's owners were very happy thst this was the case for him.

14.01.2022 I have seen a lot of new puppies recently! Please be careful when buying a new puppy and buy from a reputable breeder. Check out my blog post "Buying a Puppy" about some red flags that will alert you to a potential puppy farmer. https://www.sunshinecoastmobilevets.com.au/p/buying-a-puppy

12.01.2022 Puppy vaccination! How adorable are these French Bulldog puppies that Dr. Louise vaccinated and microchipped recently?! Check out the website www.sunshinecoastmobilevets.com.au for a new blog about what to look out for in a puppy breeder.

10.01.2022 Did you know that our puppy litter vaccination and microchip rate for breeders is just $80 per puppy? This includes a to-your-door service, a full health check with health certificate, a microchip registered with AAR, their first C3 and a vaccination card for each puppy.

10.01.2022 Please consider vaccinating your horses against Hendra virus. This virus can present with very varied symptoms. If your horse is not Hendra vaccinated be aware that your vet will have to take Hendra samples if it becomes sick. This can lead to an agonising wait for owners to get test results. Please vaccinate.

07.01.2022 Parvo is a horrible, often fatal and always very expensive disease to treat and we are seeing an increase of it around at the moment. Please please make sure your dogs (all ages) are up to date with their C3 vaccination. If your dog needs vaccination send me a message. Symptoms of Parvo include diarrhoea (sometimes bloody, often profuse), vomiting, lethargy, unwillingness to eat. Treatment involves a lengthy hospital stay with around the clock care and does not guarantee survival. Please share this post to raise awareness.

03.01.2022 Big dog Ollie was very good for his vaccination last week. He has had his three puppy vaccinations and is now protected from deadly parvovirus and some other nasty diseases. Puppies need 2-3 booster injections in order to be fully protected. Give me a call if your puppy is due for a vaccination. Annual health checks and vaccinations are just $110.

02.01.2022 This is an X-ray of a 2 week old puppy, it really shows how far the bones have to grow before they become a proper joint! Puppy exercise is sooo importan...t as young dogs undergo significant physical changes. Most growth takes place between the ages of 4 to 8 months however, in some large/giant dog breeds the growth plates may remain open up to 18-20 months! There is no question that puppies LOVE to exercise & we want nothing more than to make them happy BUT puppy exercise limits MUST be applied to prevent damage to the puppy’s developing skeletal system. So here’s a guide to help; Over-training, such as long-distance running, is unhealthy for young dogs and the benefits are minimal. Some dogs are driven to exercise and, as owners, we feel we are doing them a service by giving them what they want... So... what is enough? Appropriate Puppy Exercise 0-6mths Walking slow, short walks up to 30 mins, with plenty of opportunities for your puppy to stop & sniff sniff sniff Formal skills training sit, stay, down, touch no more than 2 mins per session. Free play no more than 10 mins; discourage rough play, such as body slamming. Chasing objects roll balls and drag toys along the ground. Avoid repetitive ball throwing & chasing. Tugging do not pull against the dog hold the toy and let the puppy pull against you; keep the toy low, to maintain the puppy’s neck in a straight line with its back. Avoid direct running , jumping, indoor/outdoor stairs, fast turns, sudden stops like chasing a ball! Young puppies, up to six months, should not be exercised with the intent to increase strength or endurance. These puppies should be allowed to play naturally, i.e. self-directed play. Jumping is often encouraged, with little understanding of the damage it can cause a young pup. Do not allow your puppy up on high objects without good supervision and assist them when getting down. We hope you share this with all your friends, students & puppy owners - Let’s spread the word and make positive changes

01.01.2022 The onset of cooler weather is a timely reminder to make sure your horse is vaccinated against Hendra virus. While Hendra virus infection can occur throughout ...the year, in the past it’s been prevalent during the cooler months. The registered vaccine helps prevent Hendra virus disease in horses. Vaccinating your horse is the most effective way to help manage Hendra virus disease. Vaccinating your horse also reduces the risk of Hendra virus transmission to people and other susceptible animals. Talk to your veterinarian about the option of Hendra virus vaccination for your horse. More information at https://bit.ly/2mFXIey. See more

01.01.2022 What a cruisey life! This is Opi. He lives with his two brothers on a trawler at Mooloolaba marina. The chillest three cats I've ever met! Life on the high seas definitely suits this crew!
