08.05.2022 Dear teachers - not all hope is lost! If you're a follower of Scola and the field of education at large, you've no doubt heard about the teacher shortages causing havoc in early childhood education this year. While many will claim this is the result of COVID-19 complications, and while this may be partly true, the fact is that teachers have been victim to severe underpayment and poor treatment in early childhood centres in comparison to their public school or private school e...nterprise agreement counterparts. We know that teachers are the biggest resource in teaching. In the years between zero to six, building strong relationships with their teachers is fundamental in ensuring that a child is comfortable, confident and connected with their learning environment. Without a good group of teachers, children will be left unprioritised, undervalued and lacking in the nurturance they need to thrive. So much so that children surrounded by a team of highly qualified early childhood and lower primary teachers will rate higher on the social, emotional and cognitive intelligences essential for further learning and general life skills. What you might not know is that under the government awards, the incentives for teacher to work in early childhood versus primary or secondary education are near non-existent. The government awards start early childhood teachers on only 85% of their counterparts working under enterprise agreements. More so, large corporations have been putting teachers in positions of leadership where they are no longer teaching and subjecting them to even lower wages. Early childhood teachers are valuable assets in the education system and deserve to be respected as such. So, with this in mind, we at Scola are making a pledge to pay teachers from graduate to leadership between $73,000 and $110,000 with generous support packages and additional training, reducing that gap to zero and imploring teachers who have lost faith thanks to years of neglect and undervalue to reconsider and see what preschool education should look like. Our children deserve the best and we're committed to providing it. #scola #teaching #earlychildhoodeducation #edreform #perthchildren #earlylearningperth #kindergartenperth
23.04.2022 Have you met our Scola Sustainable Superheroes?! These incredible little people are on a mission - saving the environment! We've been taking a big look at Australia's incredible ecosystems including how our animals are impacted by the changes in the climate. To make our change, we're raising funds to care for injured and homeless animals in Western Australia. You might see our incredible Scola superheroes in the neighbourhood collecting containers to help. We're donating our... 10c refundable containers through @4changewa and matching every dollar our group raise with a $10 donation. In our first week these super duper heroes have raised nearly $1000! How super are they?! If you'd like to get involved as part of the community or a local business who'd like to make a pledge, please contact us at [email protected] #scola #scolasuperheroes #sel #perthmums #perthdads #children #garden #preschool #earlylearningperth #perthteachers #cityofmelville #perthearlylearning #education #kindergarten #EarthDay #environment
17.04.2022 Lots of Imagination Making cakes and cups of tea in the garden, all for a birthday here in Scola! Time to water the garden! ... The children have been helping around Scola especially within the garden, be it watering the plants or other tasks. These ongoing learning experiences are close to our core values of Diplomacy, Discipline and Caring. We care for the plants to help the fruit, vegetables and flowers grow!
08.04.2022 We have had a great week! Here’s a little snapshot of what we have been up to: Primary and Secondary colours... Through exploring environments our animals live in, we have focussed on learning about the primary colours, secondary colours, and the interactions between them. 21.03.2022 Happy Earth Day I’m an attempt to cut back on waste: We’ve been very busy turning over the garden in preparation for the cooler months! ... Coming to terms with the sustainable processes of composting, recycling, and reusing as we aim to cut back on ways we create waste. We’ve also been enjoying some treats: Toasted marshmallows by the campfire In the Backyard we got in touch with the natural resources we have (and the much cooler weather) to gather around the campfire and start some outdoor cooking. It’s safe to say we loved these treats! We hope everyone has a nice weekend

25.01.2022 In case you missed it, here's our chat with ABC News about the new Early Childhood Education Payment Package! We're very proud to be apart of a small community having our voice heard. We are anticipating an announcement on the matter imminently and will continue to keep our enrolled families and waiting list families informed of the upcoming changes. Most importantly, we owe a huge thank you to our team (both here and at The Children's Garden) who have put their own health at risk during these incredibly stressful times. Along that line, another massive thank you to all the families who have donated food, consumables, learning equipment, and all the other essentials we need to keep going at the moment.
22.01.2022 A very happy #earlychildhoodeducatorsday for to our team here at Scola! The hard work they have put in facing up to a variety of intense challenges in our first year has been second to none. It's great that we can take a minute during the rollercoaster of 2020 and say thanks to our awesome team! #scola

14.01.2022 This week is national Early Learning Matters Week! To mark the special occasion, we are sharing some of the exciting adventures we get up to with some fun facts about the importance of the healthy relationships, resourceful environments and knowledgeable teachers at Scola! Exciting research out of Harvard University has shown the long term effects of a promising early childhood education programme for children aged under 6 years. Things like lower likelihood to repeat years ...in later schooling, and increased likelihood to graduate from future schooling are all associated with inclusion in a supportive and well thought out early years education programme. This is largely attributed to a strong sense of community and support that encourages positive behaviour guidance and emotional regulation practices for enhanced social inclusion. This week for #EarlyLearningMattersWeek, we are celebrating our inclusive and excited learners, our knowledgeable team and the amazing sense of community that our families and friends bring with them every day! #scola #earlychildhoodaustralia
05.01.2022 Learning about literacy has a history of being a dull and demanding task. Many of us can recall tracing a volume of letters in primary school with your pencils to be upgraded to your pen license. Feeling like Sean Connery, equipped with your lethal pen, you then get to feel the rush of going to trace more letters but with a pen - not exactly one of life's highlights, is it? Learning about literacy doesn't have to be dull! Making it relatable and personal to a child is a great... way to keep them excited about what they're doing - and you don't have to go near a pen. We've been creating an array of letters related to our Backyard Biology programme. Our elephant-letter-E has been brainstormed, constructed from salt-dough and elegantly decorated to depict one of nature's greatest beasts. Not only do we get to learn all about the letter E, its sounds, and its relevance in a real-world scenario, we've been expanding our fine motor skills and critical thinking by including brainstorming and construction play. This has been an incredible experience for our children and encourages skills development that can be used in all facets of what we do at Scola! #scola

03.01.2022 It's the smiles, hugs and piggy backs that make this job so exciting. Happy Monday! #scola
01.01.2022 An homage to self-help! Self-help skills aren't always the most exciting of skills to develop, but they are definitely essential. Not only do they offer children to opportunity to take full control of a task, they encourage positive emotional development, patience and determination. Development of self-help skills gives children multi-purpose mental skills that they can apply to many situations they'll encounter - plus the confidence they get from completing the task is hear...t warming! We encourage our children to try and do everything - from dressing themselves to serving their own food and everything in between. What's your self-help routine at home like? #scola
01.01.2022 This year it's definitely important to remember to celebrate the big things like a birthday with your buddies! #scola
