24.01.2022 The specialist fields of equine surgery and anaesthesia evolve together, with new drugs and techniques improving outcomes for equine patients. Surgeons contribute to the growth in anesthesia; and more comprehensive anesthesia, in turn, allows for more complex surgery to develop. Nonetheless, in both human and veterinary medicine, new advances bring new challenges and risks that must be recognised and addressed. Scone Equine Hospital is a proud participant in the Confidentia...l Enquiry into Perioperative Equine Fatalities 4 (CEPEF 4), a worldwide data analysis project that allows surgeons and anaesthetists to better understand and address risk factors for horses undergoing surgery. This knowledge allows our clinicians at SEH to develop best practices that promote better outcomes for high-risk patients. https://cepef4.wordpress.com/collaborating-centres/
10.01.2022 Equine Anaesthesia Internship Duration: 18 Months Start: Autumn 2021 Department: Surgery/Anaesthesia ... Supervisors: Dr Maria Bellei ROLE DESCRIPTION - We require an enthusiastic anaesthesia intern who has a commitment to practising the highest standards of veterinary medicine and patient care. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to further their career, improve their knowledge base and technical skills related to equine anaesthesia. Opportunities for continuing education, participation in journal club, development of research projects and submission of conference abstracts under guidance of a senior anaesthesiologist are provided during the employment period with Scone Equine Hospital. The main role involves the provision of high-standard anaesthesia services to patients undergoing elective and emergency procedures at the surgical facility (under the direction of an experienced anaesthetist). Our surgical numbers increase from approximately from 100 per month in August to 250 per month in November and back to 100 per month in April. There will always be at least two anaesthetists during the day from August to March. The after hours requirements will be shared with a team of anaesthetists and will include, on average, a 1 in 3 roster. Initial out-of-hours management of anaesthesia cases will be under the supervision of an anaesthesia specialist until confidence is gained for independent case management. The role will largely involve emergency GIT cases and dystocias. The after hours anaesthetist role is well supported with a qualified surgeon, a medicine specialist, a surgical assistant and veterinary nurses as needed. APPLICATIONS - Applications close 31 January 2021 with commencement date to be negotiated. Applicants need to send a Curriculum Vitae and cover letter to: [email protected] To read more about this position, click here http://www.sconeequinehospital.com.au/2021-equine-anaesthes
09.01.2022 Our Horse Handlers Marcus Almond & Phil McDeed have been extraordinary this season, keeping our surgery team safe during the many surgical procedures performed. These images highlight just how much they love and care for our patients. We would be lost without them!
