25.01.2022 Can you believe it's only two weeks to Christmas and then its goodbye to 2020! The Scope office will be closed from 1pm Wednesday 23rd December and will re-open on Monday 11th January 2021. We would like to take this opportunity from all of us here at Scope Accounting to thank you for your loyal business throughout 2020, especially facing the many changes the came along with Covid-19.... Navigating our way through the numerous ATO changes and schemes like JobKeeper, was certainly challenging at times, but we made it through the other side even stronger! We wish you a very happy and safe Christmas and New Year. And look forward to continuing to work with you and seeing what 2021 bring. Warm Regards, Chris, Wally and the Scope Team

21.01.2022 Working from home now? Have a read over this, recently updated as well for the shift with everyone working from home https://www.ato.gov.au//Deductions-y/Home-office-expenses/... 52c / hour for working from home, to cover have the lights on and the space put aside. This is over claiming a % of occupancy costs like rates, mortgage interest etc. Normally you cant claim them anyway unless you actually always work from home. You can claim a work related % of your home internet, phone usage and whatever office items you need to buy. You are better off ‘borrowing’ the stuff from work though.

20.01.2022 any one need vegan snacks while working at home?

19.01.2022 Due to the rules and timing issues with the payment of superannuation, for a payment to be a tax deduction this 2020FY, you need to make sure you have paid it ASAP! Early this week at the latest (by Tuesday the 23rd of June) This is especially important if you are planning on making additional contributions up to the $25k Concessional Contribution cap for yourself

19.01.2022 We are about to send out our newsletter about Jobkeeper 2, which starts for the pay periods that end in October onwards, but in the meantime if you want to know what we have been digesting for you as our clients, get a cup of coffee, tea or something stronger and have a listen to this industry podcast. https://open.spotify.com/episode/6ByJKgfYcRzNw646Wf7e2P

18.01.2022 Due to the the current advice from the government regarding social distancing to help stop the spread of COVID-19, the team at Scope Accounting are all keeping safe and well by working from home as of Monday 30th March. It is business as usual, just with a few tweaks here and there. You can still call the office on 07 3103 6158 should you have any questions or concerns, and we will forward your message onto the appropriate person to get back to you. Alternatively you can alwa...ys email us at In regards to any questions you may have around the various economic stimulus announcements, when something new is announced we know just as much as you do from the Prime Ministers press statements! Give us until the next business day at least to digest and interpret the new measures, as with everything announced so far, the fine print is just as important as the media headlines. Like you, we are still adapting to this ever changing situation and we thank you for your patience at this time.

16.01.2022 The government unveiled a new support package yesterday. The policy announcement indicates that employers who have suffered a significant reduction in turnover will receive $1500 per fortnight for each employee they keep on over the next six months. This has been nicknamed the JobKeeper allowance. The announcement also indicated that to receive the payment a business would need to prove that their turnover had dropped by at least 30% (larger companies need to show 50%).... Beyond that we don’t know much, as the details and mechanism for all this have not been explained, so we can’t say anything else at this stage. Rest assured we’ll keep you posted on further developments.

15.01.2022 The Federal Government will change the partner income test for people on welfare, as part of its economic response to the coronavirus crisis. At the moment, if you lose your job and your partner earns more than $48,000 a year, you're not eligible for the Jobseeker payment. But Finance Minister Mathias Cormann says the Government will lift that threshold. ... We don't know to what income level that will be Mr Cormann said the specifics will be announced "in the coming days".

14.01.2022 Anyone else loves it when their 'boss' keeps changing the rules? Extension of time to enrol for the JobKeeper scheme Please note the Commissioner has extended the time to enrol for the initial JobKeeper periods, from 30 April 2020 until 31 May 2020.... If you enrol by 31 May you will still be able to claim for the fortnights in April and May, provided you meet all the eligibility requirements for each of those fortnights. This includes having paid your employees by the appropriate date for each fortnight. For the first two fortnights (30 March 12 April, 13 April 26 April), we will accept the minimum $1,500 payment for each fortnight has been paid by you even if it has been paid late, provided it is paid by you by the end of April. You can enrol and claim for JobKeeper earlier if you choose. For example, you can enrol by the end of April to claim JobKeeper payments for the two fortnights in April. https://www.ato.gov.au/General/JobKeeper-Payment/

13.01.2022 This is something that all Queensland property investors need to know regarding possible changes being made by the Queensland State Government. This has the potential to affect a large portion of our client base. Propertyology explains the impending changes below.

04.01.2022 For those who are drawing an income stream or pension from their superannuation funds, please note that there now is a temporary reduction in the minimum draw-down rates for your Account Based Pension. The government brought in similar concessions during the GFC, to help you avoid having to sell your listed investments during a market downturn For the current 2020 financial year and the next 2021 financial year, the percentage you must withdraw from your super fund has halved.... As an example, where your 1st of July 2019 balance was $700,000 and you were 70 years old, your minimum pension was to be 5% or $35,000 by the end of June 2020, but now it is reduced to $17,500 or 2.5% If you need assistance with this decision, please call to book in a time for an return phone call
