25.01.2022 It doesn't matter who you are, where you are, or what service or product you sell or produce, but the service and quality of it, that matters. So many times the basics are not taught, practiced and learnt. Yet decision makers in companies will squander thousands of dollars on expensive marketing campaigns with the crossed fingered approach as to whether it will or won't work when in front of their noses, the simple basics are missed.... As an example, this Bangladeshi gentleman in Lisbon, took the time to talk to me, explain his product on which he was very knowledgeable, listen to me - without interrupting, and answer my questions thoughtfully. Since I am a trained Negotiator, I was still tempted to negotiate hard, but I resisted the temptation because the seller had made the buying experience enjoyable, and both of us went away happy. Thousands of dollars are both made and squandered in the simple basics. What is your experience? #marketing #business #training #negotiation #coaching

25.01.2022 What has this beautiful flame tree got to do with business? Everything Obvious that it wasnt grown from a seedling yesterday. Why in business do we think that we can defy the laws of the Universe, start a business yesterday and expect it to be yielding the most beautiful mature flowers (profits) the next day?... Yet we still defy logic and buy a lottery ticket when statistically the odds are extremely low that we will win the jackpot Very strange Would it not be wise to have a plan, get help drawing up that plan with someone who has grown a few trees (businesses) in their lifetime, to help you avoid the pitfalls, such as planting your seedling where it is highly unlikely to grow as one example, and avoid losing a few branches along the way by making stupid mistakes? You need consistency, persistency and focus to achieve the growth in your tree (business) if you want to enjoy the successes It is too hard to do it on your own if you want lasting success I help people just like you achieve success through coaching them, gained from a lifetime of starting businesses, building them up and selling them successfully It is too difficult to do it on your own Next step - get in touch and see if we would be a good fit to work together #businesscoaching #business #leadership #coaching

23.01.2022 This guy was a very smart man. Very clever, innovative and pioneering. A true rocket scientist. But what about you? Is what you are doing rocket science? Well no, but you have to understand that in our business blah blah blah is the usual response.... Simple is often very good. If you have more money coming into your business than is going out each month, then give yourself a pat on the back you are doing something right. Problem is that most people dont think. When did you last take time out to think? Giving yourself time to think produces results. You can also do useful other things at the same time such as exercise the body, which reduces your risk of bad health and provides oxygen to your brain so that you think better. I often wondered why Stephen Fry was so knowledgeable and discovered that he listens to audio books all the time while walking. I picked up on that and listen to audio books while walking now as well as in the car it is so easy to do, and one of my favourite saying is If you want to increase your earn, then increase your learn It is not rocket science.

22.01.2022 Questions are the answers What happens when you ask the wrong question? What happens when you ask the right question? What happens when you get asked the unanswerable question? (Hint: Does my bum look big in this? Is a prime example)... What happens when we ask better questions? We get better results It is easy to pick on problems, but what if we picked on asking better questions What happens when you ask this question Is that your best price? (A lame attempt at negotiation) The answer you are likely to get Yes, sorry thats the best we can do A much better question would have been to say, while your feet are pointed in the direction of the exit, What is the least that you will take for that item, right now? It cuts out the to and fro, increasing the pressure on the seller, as they see that they have only one chance to crack this buyer, as their feet are already pointing towards the exit door Better question and a much better chance of a great result Want help with getting better results? Of course you do. I help people just like you to ask better questions ALL the time. Contact me to get yourself put on the wait list for the next Negotiation Training Workshop we will be doing hashtag#leadership hashtag#business hashtag#negotiation hashtag#businesscoaching

21.01.2022 https://www.linkedin.com//urn:li:activity:6496232206913146 Where will the jobs be in the future? AI will do much of the work us humans currently do... IT is currently doing what humans used to Understanding humans is the issue and the area of new jobs growth Start with who Who is who in the zoo? A monkey running the place, aided by a couple of baboons, spells disaster no matter how good your systems are Is your recruiting system dated? What career path are you helping your new employees pursue, knowing that you only have a borrow of them for x number of years; (they will move on in time, embrace their passion to grow, and enjoy jointly the benefits) How much discretionary effort is currently being given by your employees? My observations over many years is that most employees are giving between 5 and 40% discretionary effort, as they are demotivated The carrot and stick method doesnt work in the 21st Century (if indeed it ever worked) Still unsure? - read Dan Pinks book Drive, and it will convince you #danpink #coaching #businesscoaching #business

21.01.2022 Business a bit quiet at the moment? Answer? The marketers will tell you that you need to spend more on marketing but is that necessarily true? Two things.... Firstly, are you measuring the ROI? (Return on investment) - in my early days of coaching this was one of the first ways I would save my clients money! Some of them would be spending horrendous amounts of money on yellow pages advertising without checking if it was working or not. (For the uninitiated out there this was a fat ugly book full of advertising which most useful purpose was as a door stop, and as the internet took hold became obsolete) Secondly, what about focusing on what you can do. Can you improve team performance? Can you improve customer service? Can you stop doing things which drive customers away? As I sit here waiting for my car to be serviced the Dealership informed me that their internet has been down for the last few days! How does that imbue a feeling of anything other than negativity by way of customer experience! Unacceptable in this era. If you are not wowing your customers someone else is.

15.01.2022 Dear old Britain How to get things wrong in a negotiation? The hash that Britain have made with Brexit defies belief with one of the worlds oldest negotiators The U.K. traditionally used to be very good at negotiation, but because they havent followed the basic rules it will not surprise me if they meekly hand back Gibraltar to Spain in the continued mess.... There are rules in negotiation, and the one initial basic rule that everyone should know are the three keys, the legs to the negotiation chair take one away and you are screwed. The three legs are Power, Time and Information. Britain blew it when they signed Article 50 up front before starting the negotiation immediately blowing their time line, and now that deadline is approaching fast, we see the net result is no longer a negotiation Its an abdication. A disaster. EVERY negotiation is foundational on these three keys - the legs. If you have all three in place, even if the ground is uneven, the negotiation chair is stable doesnt even rock. Give away your power, or run up against time, or give away crucial information, it doesnt matter who or what the negotiation is with these three keys are CRITICAL. Take one away and it falls flat instantly. The end? #leadership #businesscoaching #negotiation

15.01.2022 In July 1997, the proposed Scottish Parliament building in Edinburgh, Scotland was estimated to cost up to 40million. By June 1999 the budget had risen to 109... million. In April 2000 Legislators had imposed a 109 million cap on costs. By November 2001, they demanded an estimate on final cost, which was set at 241 million. That estimated final cost rose twice in 2002, ending the year at 294.6million. It rose three times more in 2003, reaching 375.8 million by June. The building was finally completed in 2004 at an ultimate cost of roughly 431 million. (Source - Thinking Fast and Slow, by Daniel Kahneman,P.250) Was that the results of systems, processes, materials? NO! It was the result of people. Wrong people doing the wrong things in the wrong jobs. Start with WHO! Who is who in the zoo? 15.01.2022 Common-sense Many people talk without thinking about the OUTCOME from what they are about to say. I love the acronym for the word THINK. Before you next say something measure up how well it fits with this... Is it TRUE? Is it HELPFUL? Is it INSPIRATIONAL? Is it NECESSARY? Finally, and the one I like the most Is it KIND? By the way, I am having a clear out of my library, (influenced by Marie Kondo bless her), and going over more and more to electronic books and audio books. If you want any hard copy books on Business, Personal Development and Mindset feel free to ask, as I may have a copy of what you are looking for for free. I only want to keep books that make me smile with pleasure and which I have re-read many times and continue to delight me. What are your top 20 books of all time and you just couldnt bear to part with?

14.01.2022 The 4 Reasons Why Your Goals Dont Work + Quick Tips To Fix It 5 minutes into 2019 and your goals seem to be turning into a gaol instead! Perhaps if you knew why, it would make it easier for you to fix... Here are the four reasons goals dont work out, plus often a combination of them can be the problem 1) Wrong Goals 2) Unclear Focus 3) No Action Plan 4) Mental Barriers If a goal does not inspire you, then it is probably the wrong goal! Get one that does instead If your life is in turmoil and you have more than 30 emails in your inbox that is a pretty good indicator that you have lost focus. Buy Leo Babautas book on The Power Of Less and implement his suggestions If you have no action plan, then you are not using the power of the unconscious mind and are floating around in the breeze Write it down Written goals are so much more effective If the word Goal has a bad connotation in your mind, change the word, and change how you feel about it call it a project instead of a goal Final piece of advice. Start practicing moving molehills first of all, moving mountains comes later #leadership #businesscoaching #goals #inspiration

11.01.2022 Polluter or Provider of Value? Due to the ongoing disruption in business, jobs have gone, executives dumped, and they have looked for opportunities with little barrier to entry Recruitment is one. Coaching is another. Business Broker, Financial Advisor also, with low entry level requirements before you can launch your talents to the world... However there is a danger of polluting the market Does that person have what it takes to provide long term lasting value to these clients? If not, pollution occurs. A polluter is someone who through slick marketing signs up clients, and soon, the client discovers that apart from having been forced to read Think and Grow Rich, and left scratching their heads wondering what a book written by a known conman in the mid-20th Century has to do with helping overcome the problem in his business of more month than money, and disillusioned, pulls the plug on the polluter and proclaims loud and clear that ALL Recruiters, ALL Coaches, ALL Brokers, ALL Financial Advisors are charlatans So how can you tell who is who in the zoo? If it looks like a duck, waddles and quacks like one, it probably is one. Ask yourself if in your search for a great [ ], what VALUE, and what RESULTS will I get? #coaching #business #leadership #businessgrowth

11.01.2022 Our errors, mistakes, failures, and sometimes even our humiliations, were necessary steps in the learning process. However, they were meant to be means to an endand not an end in themselves. When they have served their purpose, they should be forgotten. "If we consciously dwell on the error, or consciously feel guilty about the error and keep berating ourselves because of it, thenunwittinglythe error or failure itself becomes the goal that is consciously held in imagination and memory. The unhappiest of mortals is that man who insists on reliving the past, over and over in imaginationcontinually criticizing himself for past mistakescontinually condemning himself for past sins. Maxwell Maltz. Written years ago, and still great advice!

09.01.2022 Hellooo!!! I have to spend a heap of time getting the MBA out of Executives!

09.01.2022 How does a flower grow petals perfectly, yet in growing our businesses, it grows in a bumpy fashion? In our business, things are different! We have systems in place, and growing year on year. well that is normal a tree doesnt take a couple of years off.... You are growing or going. Systems are not a cure all It actually starts with WHO. A bad person in the wrong position can sabotage and wreck a company fast. Then you have The Handbrake. She/he says You just have to understand in our business we have always done it this way. What do you do then? HR or Industrial Relations Lawyers? No. That is the disaster zone, where you end up in a lose/lose situation. Performance manage them then? No. Spend 6 months or more raising your blood pressure and the unfortunate soul who doesnt fit ins B.P. too? Dumb stuff and straight out of 1960s corporate culture Why did Peter Drucker say all these years ago Culture eats strategy for breakfast. He was a visionary ahead of his time, and now it has reached the stage that if your culture stinks, your business is dying Fixing the culture in businesses that are coachable is what I do. P.S. It also increases the bottom line profit exponentially. #business #coaching #culture #change

07.01.2022 What happens when you give your customers too many choices? They get confused and dont buy A bit like the small child in the huge toy shop. You can pick one toy Johnnie, only one.... 20 minutes later Johnnie leaves with no toy and Mum and Dad as well as Johnnie in tears with no toy, leave the toy shop No different in business. One of the first things that Steve Jobs did when he returned to Apple was cut down the number of choices The rest as they say is history To cut through the confusion make it easy for your customers to buy People think in 3s Childrens stories 3 bears. 3 Houses - straw, wood and bricks The Acasa Suites Hotel in Zurich made it easy what to buy at the breakfast coulis strawberry, raspberry or mango. Im allergic to mango so it made it pretty easy - either the one or the other choice Easy Action Point: Look at your offerings and make it easy for your customer to buy from you No more than 3 choices hashtag#marketing hashtag#business hashtag#coaching hashtag#businesscoaching

03.01.2022 It is what you dont know about yourself that can hurt you This well-known heuristic tool invented by two friends whose names were Joe and Harry hence Johari sounds like some Eastern philosopher but isnt check out as there is plenty on this on Wikipedia along with other sources We all have blind spots, and often just carry on. The top right-hand quadrant is something to ponder over. The bottom right quadrant is what neither of us knew... Would that be exciting to find out! Years ago I fell off a stepladder the top one where it says Dont stand here Did not go up a ladder after until I did an outdoors personal development course, where I was invited to climb not one, but one after another up 40 storeys. At the top was a zip-wire and after being strung up like a turkey was let go on my merry way. Well I survived and enjoyed it after the moment of life flashing before me at the start An example of what neither I knew I could do and also what others didnt know whether I could do In business what do you not know that you dont know you dont know? What is the cost to you not know what you need to know? How much is it costing you to not solve your problem? What is the cost to you to not try and hire me to find out? #leadership #businesscoaching #coaching

03.01.2022 Quarter of the year gone already, and what has been achieved? Same old, same old or 'we're pretty busy' the response? Problem is when we think 'we know' and take the 'I know' attitude, we block ourselves from achieving true greatness... It is also a big excuse for doing nothing, except a bit of navel gazing, and commiserating with 'friends' who will agree with our point of view It is overdue to look at our attitude and action. It is too hard to achieve change that is lasting and real on your own. We all need coaching, and in line with being congruent with my clients - at 65 years young, I still have a Coach Who is your Coach? K.I.S.S. principle has been around for years (Keep it simple stupid)... People think in threes. We have been trained since we were kids. Baby Bear, Mummy Bear, Daddy Bear. Strawberry, raspberry or mango was the choice on the menu. Im allergic to mango, so the choice was easier still - flip of the coin stuff. Make it easy for your customers to buy from you.
