We are so thankful of everything that you do for our students - for all the activities and games that you participate in, for the meals that you prepare, for the love that you give and the example that you set.

24.01.2022 "Captain Hamish Gooch had the best time of his life leading Scotch to a memorable season: There will be reunions and whatnot. Scotch has been an awesome school for us ... Were a really well-drilled team with good coaching staff. " There were fantastic wrap-up articles about the 1st XVIII in The West Australian on Monday, featuring quotes from Hamish Gooch (team captain) and Steve Malaxos (coach).

24.01.2022 Step inside a Scotch classroom and discover how our Year 5 students have been actively learning! The boys were bustling, busy and building during the statement piece making aspect of the PYP Exhibition. They painted board, hot-glued a range of materials, stuck pins in foam and sawed woodall with the aim to create a unique and special statement to provoke a message related to their research question for the exhibition on ‘Scientific understanding impacts lives.’ The boys work...ed independently and collaboratively to solve problems and use resources sustainably. To balance their busy schedules, they spent time practicing yoga to maintain wellness. They wrote reflections on their learning and created animations to further display their creativity. They explored space and shape in maths to enhance their understanding of effective display. Finally, they exhibited their work in the school gallery in readiness for their final presentation to the community.

24.01.2022 Congratulations to our 2021 Year 11 Scholarship recipients Banjo Harold (Cameron House), who received the WR Dickinson Scholarship, and Rory King (Shearer House), who was awarded the PC Anderson Scholarship. These two scholarships are awarded to Year 11 students who have displayed a commitment to a breadth of subjects and activities while embracing and upholding the values of Scotch. Well deserved Banjo and Rory

23.01.2022 There aren't too many sleeps left until Christmas ... Before finishing school for the year, the Junior School students made sure to post their letters to Santa!

23.01.2022 Congratulations to David Stulpner, one of our 2020 graduating Year 12 students. David was recently named the Overall Piping Winner of the Balmoral Classic US Junior Solo Piping & Drumming Championships. The Balmoral Classic championship is an annual event and is the only solo bagpiping and Scottish snare drumming competition in the US exclusively for those age 21 and under. The Classic attracts the best young pipers and drummers and as it was online this year, had entrants from all over the world. Congratulations on a very well-deserved win, David!

22.01.2022 This Saturday marks the final fixtures for the PSA Winter sports season. In football, the Scotch 1st XVIII are playing to win the Alcock Cup outright. If the boys win their game against Guildford Grammar School, they will win the Cup. If Scotch lose the match, they cant be guaranteed to win the Cup outright and may share with Aquinas College. Throughout the season, the boys have been fantastic in terms of their work ethic and focus. Guildford are the only team to beat Scotch in 2020 and did so by only two points so it is shaping up to be a close and hard-fought game! 22.01.2022 Its a big week for Philosophy at Scotch! On Monday, boys in the Year 10 Philosophy course teamed up with Penrhos students for a series of activities around eugenics. UWAs Rob Wilson, a prominent philosopher, delivered a powerful lecture on the scourge of eugenics. This was followed by student-led communities of inquiry around ethics. Tuesday saw approximately 60 boys from Years 5-8 compete in the Middle School Philosothon. Rob Wilson was again in attendance, addressing ...the boys and sharing his passion for philosophy. The boys explored deep philosophical questions such as, Can a robot be conscious? and What is freedom? in the spirit of critical, creative and collaborative thinking. Each community of inquiry was adjudicated by Year 10 Philosophy students bringing the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools together for what was a huge success. On Friday afternoon our Australasian Philosothon team comprising boys from Years 8-11, will continue their preparation for the national competition under the guidance of our Scholar in Residence, Akram Azimi.

21.01.2022 Today, Cameron Green (OSC ’16) received his baggy green at the Adelaide Oval, at only 21 years old. Cam started at Scotch in 2011 as a Year 7 student. He had already begun to distinguish himself in sport, and was picked for the Under 12 AFL state team. In Year 11, Cam was selected for the Under 19 State cricket team and was a member of both the Scotch 1st XI and 1st XVIII. He received Colours for Cricket in Years 9-11, and in Year 12 was Captain of the 1st XI, member of the 1...st XVIII, and received Honours for both Football and Cricket. Cam made his List A debut for Cricket Australia against the Pakistan Cricket Team in January 2017, shortly after graduating from Scotch and at just 17 years of age. In February 2017, Cam made his first-class debut for @WACA - Western Australian Cricket Association in the 2016-17 Sheffield Shield season. Due to a stress fracture in his back, Cam was forced to sit out the 2017-18 Sheffield Shield season, but then made his Big Bash debut for the Perth Scorchers in January 2019, and in November of the same year had his breakthrough performance as a batsman playing for WA against Queensland. In October of this year, Cam was included in Australia’s team for the limited overs match against India, before making his ODI debut for Australia against the Indian Cricket Team on 2 December, before scoring a century for Australia A in a warm-up match. While there had been much talk of Cam getting his baggy green cap, injuries had made that uncertain. This week Cam was given the all clear and we are so thrilled that he will make his Test debut today. Good luck Cam! You can catch the action on Channel 7

21.01.2022 This week our Senior School boys are celebrating GRIT Week and building resilience. They will be participating in activities all week, and at lunchtime today they listened to live music, attempted to juggle and tried to throw and kick with their non-preferred arm and leg respectively. Head to the stories for more pics!

19.01.2022 The cast of Kicker Thompson were thrilled to have the playwright Julia Jarel as their special guest in the audience on the show’s opening night! The Middle School Drama production will continue to run until Saturday and tickets have sold out.

19.01.2022 Studio Scotch recently sat down with three of our Old Scotch Collegians to talk about their experiences and how they view failure. Special thanks to OSCs Michael Silbert (’79), Spencer Brooks (’12) and Alex Aberle-Leeming (’08).

18.01.2022 On this day in 1918, the guns on the Western Front fell silent for the first time in over four years. Today, on Remembrance Day, we remember all those who went to war, without knowing what the sacrifice would be. Hundreds of students and Old Scotch Collegians, many not much older than our Senior School boys, enlisted to serve their country. Many never returned home. On this day, and every day, we remember them. Lest we forget.

17.01.2022 Saturdays fixture is also a significant game for the 1st XV. The rugby boys have so far been undefeated this season, and are also playing for the outright title of Redmond champions against Guildford this weekend. If they succeed, it will be their 5th outright win in the last six years. This achievement for the boys is a testament to the immense effort that they have put in throughout the entire season, both in training and in the games. Well done!

17.01.2022 Good luck to all our Junior School and Middle School students who will be taking to the stage tonight at the Spring Soirée!

Areen discusses the interdisciplinary nature of entrepreneurial thinking and its clear benefits for young learners hoping ...to solve the many problems facing us in the future. She questions our current system of grading students and finishes with a personal story, reminding us of the dangers of when one's self-esteem is too closely linked to their academic achievement....and if stuck on a desert island...what music would Areen turn to? The great Algerian singer Souad Massi of course! The Range Project is an educational podcast that draws lessons from those who have made a habit of expanding their range. Supported by Old Scotch Collegians, Scotch Parents and Scotch College Teaching and Learning, teachers Sam Sterrett and Steve McLean interview a series of guests who have gone beyond an area of specialisation, gained their own inter-disciplinary understanding of the world, and found their passion in the process. 02.01.2022 For their Winter Appeal, Middle School are collecting new, warm socks for people living in poverty in Perth. Socks are the most requested item at homeless centers globally, and theyre in short supply. In winter, socks are even more important to those experiencing homelessness. Painful foot problems are made worse if people dont have decent socks to wear. A clean pair of socks can make a world of difference. The students are collecting donations of new socks for men, women ...and children. If you would like to donate, please bring pairs of socks to school before Week 6. People tend to prefer white sports socks over dark colours, but all socks are equally welcome. In recognition of the UnitingCare West Winter Appeal, yesterday the Middle School boys were invited to wear their PE uniform with a pair of crazy socks. It was a riot of bright colours, patterns and pictures!
