25.01.2022 Belated congratulations to Scotch Oakburn College parent Jo Palmer MLC on your new job representing the people of Rosevears.
24.01.2022 COVID Protocol Update: Today, Principal, Andy Mller provides a quick update on the Colleges COVID protocols as we lead into the term break. The College is still operating under the same Government restrictions and requirements as we were at the start of Term 3 which are: social distancing, staying away from school if feeling unwell and getting a COVID test, limiting the number of people allowed at indoor and outdoor events and restricting access to the College for non-essen...tial visitors. These protocols will be reviewed prior to the end of Term 3 and we will communicate any changes or updates to you prior to the commencement of Term 4. In the meantime, parents who want to speak to a teacher in person are encouraged to make an appointment either directly via email or by contacting the appropriate reception, Junior, Middle or Senior, who will get the message to the teacher who will then make an appointment with you. Thank you for the continued support and for putting the health of everyone ahead of all else.
24.01.2022 It was great for the College to be involved in such a worthy project. Pre-order today!
23.01.2022 Our Agricultural Systems students visited the Southern Farming Systems (SFS) site at Cressy this week. Under the guidance of Ian Herbert, the Tasmanian Projects and Trials Manager for SFS, the students performed plant counts on the eight varieties of wheat for a field trial. This data will be used by SFS in their evaluation of the trial and has also formed the basis of a class activity on data processing. Thanks, Ian and Southern Farming Systems Tasmania for allowing us to help with your field trial.
23.01.2022 We are looking forward to celebrating "Wear it Purple Week" this week on the Penquite Campus. Wear it Purple is an initiative that supports diversity and inclusion in schools. This goes beyond raising awareness of gender diversity to people of colour, religious acceptance and any form of difference or minority in our community. The theme of the 2020 Wear it Purple drive is "We are the Change". Our week will culminate with a casual clothes gold coin day on Friday with activities and music throughout lunch. Wear something purple (if you have it) on Friday to help celebrate the day.
23.01.2022 Our senior boarders are particpating in a number of short workshops focusing on developing their life skills. 21.01.2022 Our Round Square Chairs, Alexandra Phillips and Theo Ives, invite students in Years 7-12 to get involved in the Act for Peace Ration Challenge. Put yourselves in the shoes of a refugee for one week, learn about current global issues, develop empathy for others and feel empowered to make a difference in the world. The Ration Challenge is a powerful, physical learning experience that can be done at home and at school. You will eat the same rations as a Syrian refugee for 3 or... 5 days, depending on your age. The money you raise will provide emergency food, hygiene kits and life-saving support for people hit hardest by Covid-19. By sharing your experience, you will help create more empathy and compassion in society. Go to https://schools.rationchallenge.org.au/t/soc-round-square to view team members and our current fundraising total. As you can see from the image, a small amount can make a big difference. Contact Alexandra, Theo or Mr Stuart Walls to get involved by the end of Monday. Check last weeks College news for more information.

12.01.2022 Today we are very excited to announce that we have been awarded Gold Recognition as a Mental Health First Aid Skilled Workplace. We are one of very few workplaces in Tasmania to achieve this recognition. The wellbeing of our community is a key strand in our longer term vision for the College and the provision of mental health first aid training is a key initiative in this area. A massive thanks to all staff for their care and support for our students and colleagues and their commitment to this cause.

This week, this involved using specific cutting techniques to prepare fresh raw sashimi tuna for sushi. Although some were put off by the idea of eating raw fish at first, they all gave it a taste, and most were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the textural experience as well as the knowledge of its nutritional benefits. Some mystery box challenges are coming up!

07.01.2022 TCE Housing and Design students were presented with a design brief this term to design a bus shelter to be located on Penquite Road just outside the College Chapel. The brief required the students to work in pairs to design a shelter to house up to 20 people and that was aesthetically sympathetic to both the 70-year-old Chapel as well as the more contemporary buildings across the road in the Middle School. The wide variety of creative solution were then modelled to scale.
07.01.2022 Year 8 are enjoying the company of two beautiful Friesian calves. As part of our annual Cows Create Careers program students are learning all about the Dairy industry, including how to take care of calves. They will also create a video to highlight what they have learnt about the Dairy Industry including possible careers. The Cows Create Careers program finishes with an excursion to a Dairy farm in week 9, something all students and staff are looking forward to.

Year 10 Design for an Active Lifestyle promotes fitness, ingenuity and design skills but also focuses on the need for good teamwork using all the skills each individual can bring to the team. The teams of 5-6 are currently focused on the presentation and mechanical maintenance of the bikes, using digital media to create stickers and logos, as well as mechanical knowledge and skills to make their bike quick and safe for the rider. They are preparing for a 2-hour team team later in the term.

02.01.2022 Over recent weeks the Colleges Senior Choir under the guidance of Ms Denise Sam, have been learning the song Secret for the Mad by Dorothy Clark. This song deals with the themes of worry and anxiety. The themes are at the forefront of many students minds as they navigate their way through 2020 and the impact the Coronavirus pandemic has had on their lives. It was selected for its powerful message of hope. During the rehearsal process, students were given a piece of paper ...and asked to reflect on something that weighs heavily on them, something that they worry or care about and write it on the piece of paper. On the back, they wrote something that brings them joy or gives them hope and sparks joy in their life. As you watch and listen to the choirs performance you will see the words and phrases that concern them as well as what brings them joy. The students are not holding their own words, but those of their friends in the choir. The students got to see that their fears were similar or the same as others. They are not alone and as the song tells us: It will all make sense...again.
