The inaugural Captains’ XIs Preseason Showdown was held yesterday, under the resplendent sunshine th...at was poured down upon Atmosphere (Dendy) Park. Men’s 1st and 2nd XI skippers Barrel and Myth lead two evenly matched teams into battle for the club’s last centre wicket blow out before CSB play commences next weekend. The regular customers from the senior squad all quietly impressed as they proved that isolation hadn’t prevented them from doing at least a little preseason work, but it was the new faces that really delighted the two skippers. New recruit Scott Gordon showed his talents with both bat and ball, and will only improve with a few more spells under his belt. While Jordie McKenzie made his first step up into top squad cricket and looked more than comfortable against the Dragons top tier bowlers. At the other end of the spectrum, junior stars Alex Turner, Dinal Gamage and Jake Risseeuw all showed exemplary technique with the bat, while Jake and Dinal showed that as their bowling develops the title of all-rounder would be more than fitting. It seemed that the person keeping score was Brian Randall, lo and behold - his XI won! But more importantly there looks to be plenty of selection headaches (positive ones) for the skippers this week!
