25.01.2022 BREAKING: Queensland borders will close to all of NSW and the ACT from 1am Saturday. Further details to follow.

25.01.2022 This isn't good. Hopefully we get some good news Today

24.01.2022 You might have seen this list of Queensland COVID-19 restricted areas being shared this morning. Dr Jeannette Young, Chief Health Officer has published this list to assist in containing and responding to the spread of COVID-19 within the community. **At this stage the list applies ONLY to the Aged Care Public Health Direction which locks down aged care facilities in the Metro South HHS area and a part of the West Moreton HHS area.... ***These suburbs HAVE NOT been locked down.*** Right now all Queenslanders are being asked, but especially those in the south east corner, to be extra vigilant. If you have any symptoms whatsoever, stay home and please go and get a test and isolate at home until you have the results. By getting a test and staying home, you are helping to protect your community.

21.01.2022 Are you interested in the history of Logan? The fascinating story behind a Logan institution will be shared during a live-streamed presentation this month by Logan City Councils Local Heritage Specialist. Hilda Maclean will tell the story of how Logan Village Hotel publican Charles Wiman awoke to discover his establishment on fire on a chilly September morning in 1904.... Charles thought he was listening to a hailstorm when he woke.He soon realised the sound was crackling glass and the single-storey wooden building was on fire. Charles tried to extinguish the flames with buckets of water but it was soon engulfed. His wife Annie, their two children and the cook had escaped and raised the alarm with a gang of railway workers camped across the road at the station. They raced in to try and salvage what they could as it became clear the 19-room hotel could not be saved. Only the piano and some bundles of bedclothes were rescued. Charles injured himself in the process when the burning ceiling fell in on him. Within half an hour, the Logan Village Hotel burned to the ground. The Wiman family lost everything as the contents were not insured. The buildings owner William Drynan soon rebuilt the hotel in the form we can still see today in Albert St, Logan Village. Dr Maclean will share the story as well as photos of the rebuilt hotel at the Pubs and Post Offices event from 10.30am on Wednesday, July 29. Many people are unaware that in the earliest days of settlement in the Logan district a visit to the post office meant collecting your mail at the pub. Dr Maclean will share the development of these two institutions through the lens of the travelling photographer William Boag. She will also discuss how itinerant health professionals held consultations in pubs. From the 1880s to the 1950s itinerant dentists and optometrists set up consulting rooms in the hotels of small towns which did not have their own practices. They lived and worked in the upstairs accommodation for a few weeks before moving onto the next town. Potential patients were notified of their arrival by advertisements in the local newspapers or by a banner hanging over the verandah rail. To register for the Wednesday, July 29 session and find out more details visit: loganlibraries.org/whats-on/ This event will be delivered live via Microsoft Teams. Once participants register, library staff will contact them with more details about how to access the session. This State Library of Queensland image shows the rebuilt Logan Village Hotel in 1912. #LoganHistory #OurCity #PioneerHeritage

06.01.2022 Just a heads up regarding The State Fair coming up at Jimboomba. 1: The Fair is on Private land not Council Land. 2: Council cant cancel the event. As long as the organisers have ticked all the boxes with The State Government in regards to a Covid plan.... 3: Its a State Government call not mine. 4: If you are concerned please email our State Member Linus Power. Ive spoke to Linus and he will say the same thing. The organisers will have a Covid plan and will follow any restrictions and guidelines that they are given from State Government to keep people safe. If anything changes, I imagine the event will change. Importantly its up to you if you choose to attend. Its not compulsory. It goes without saying if you have symptoms stay home and follow the protocols. Hope that clears any confusion.

06.01.2022 Love my job and getting things done

05.01.2022 It has been confirmed that Queensland has two new cases of COVID-19 today. Both are 19-year-old women and BOTH are in Logan. The first case is a woman who tested positive after travelling interstate last week. She is an employee at Parklands Christian College on Brisbanes southside.... Queensland Health is working closely with the school which will temporarily close until further notice. The second case, another woman, is a travel companion. Both cases travelled interstate together last week. Contact tracing is underway on both cases. Anyone with symptoms, particularly people who have travelled interstate recently, should stay home and arrange to get tested immediately. Vigilance is key to keeping community transmission under control in our community.

04.01.2022 Media Release: Logan City Councils 2018/2019 Annual Report has been judged the best in the Asia-Pacific region, taking out the top accolade at the recent Australasian Reporting Awards. The report was judged against those of top-tier companies and organisations from across Australasia, who received gold level awards. They included Wesfarmers Limited, the ABC, National Australia Bank and several other South-east Queensland councils including Brisbane, Redland and the Gold Co...ast. It is the first time Logan City Council has won the coveted overall Report of the Year prize, after achieving five consecutive gold awards since 2015. City of Logan Mayor Darren Power said Councils annual reporting process was thorough with staff committed to providing accessible and detailed public accounts of the organisations activities. In reaching their decision, the ARA judges recognised Councils report had included a particularly challenging and difficult period, Cr Power said. The open and honest way in which we reported on those challenges helped us to achieve the distinction of Report of the Year. The Australasian Reporting Awards set the standard for best global practice in annual reporting. "This is a high honour for Logan City Council and in particular, our Business Performance Management Team. Logan City Councils 2018/19 report can be viewed at: https://lccannualreport.com.au/

01.01.2022 My kids did a series of videos about road safety. Hopefully this means no speeding tickets or crashes for them And for the record I said, The passenger always gets hurt because the driver is showing off. Thats what I drummed into my kids. Human reaction is steer away from the danger which usually puts the danger right in front of the passenger. Thats enough wisdom from me this month. ... Stay safe people
