23.01.2022 Weird Stuff on the Mountain of the Goblins. Sometimes you get one atmospheric phenomenon (its hard enough to spell), sometimes you get lucky and get two, but three in one. So there's a double rainbow, a fogbow and a brocken spectre in this photo, taken on the summit of Bheinn Mheanbh.

22.01.2022 Hi everyone. This is the view looking across the Saddle to Goat Fell with the lights of Brodick to the right and the mainland beyond. Bottom left you can see the Sannox Burn and the south east flank of Glen Sannox. I hope you like it.

20.01.2022 Well done Lance Bombardier Megan Beveridge! The first female soldier in the British Army to qualify as Pipe Major is to lead, along with the rest of her Pipes a...nd Drums, a historic parade through Inverness this weekend, to celebrate their Regiment's tercentenary. Lance Bombardier Megan Beveridge, 21, originally from Inverkeithing in Fife, is also the youngest person to qualify as a Pipe Major. She started playing the pipes with Inverkeithing Pipe Band when she was nine years old and, on completion of her Army training at the Army Foundation College in Harrogate in 2011, requested to join 19th Regiment Royal Artillery, formerly the Highland Gunners, and became an integral member of their Pipes and Drums. Her other job in the Regiment is as Military Transport Junior NCO for 13 Battery. Megan did exceptionally well on her Pipe Major's course, coming second overall, and winning the course prize for best Piobaireachd -a style of solo pipe music- (pictured). She was also top student in theory. She and the rest of the pipes and drums will lead 19th Regiment Royal Artillery on a parade through Inverness on Sunday, as they exercise their freedom of entry to the city, as part of the Royal Artillery's tercentenary celebrations, known as 'UBIQUE 300', after their Latin motto, meaning 'Everywhere'. 13.01.2022 We're fortunate here in Tasmania that our COVID situation allows us to live fairly normally. Today, the St Andrew's Caledonian Pipe Band cheered up some luncht...ime Christmas shoppers with its rousing tunes, albeit in a cordoned off area with a skeleton crew. There's no Christmas Parade this year, and the Highland Gathering has been cancelled, so this was it... but it was good - a truly heartening reminder of how community spirit sustains and nurtures. 03.01.2022 30th November St Andrews Day Patron Saint of Scotland, Saint Andrew, although he was not actually born in Scotland. One legend builds upon Andrew’s extensive travels, claiming that he actually came to Scotland and built a church in Fife. This town is now called St Andrews, and the church became a centre for evangelism, and pilgrims came from all over Britain to pray there. Another ancient legend recalls how it was after the death of Andrew, sometime in the 4th century, that s...everal of his relics where brought to Fife by Rule, a native of Patras. Whichever legend is closer to the truth we are unlikely to ever unravel, however it is these links that explain why Andrew is now the Patron Saint of Scotland. St. Andrew has also been remembered down through the ages for the way he met his terrible death in A.D. 60. It is said that he believed himself unworthy to be crucified on a cross like that of Christ, and so he met his end on a ‘saltire’, or X-shaped cross (St Andrew’s cross) which became his symbol. His cross, in white on a blue background, remains the proud symbol of Scotland today and forms a central component of the Flag of the Union of Great Britain.
