23.01.2022 Another four weeks have passed and its time for this little Times Up filly to head home. Lovely natured, calm and smart. I look forward to seeing her out and about in the future. https://www.facebook.com/www.timesup.com.au/

20.01.2022 Something we like to do here as part of a horse’s start is to get them out of the arena and exposed to as much as possible. Check out this cool roan gelding at the end of his 4 weeks - Thankyou Joanne Francis he was a such a chilled out dream.

19.01.2022 Meet Bert, no he isn’t a horse but we don’t discriminate here. My sweet ass for the next few weeks.

14.01.2022 Thanks to Glengallan Heavy Horses for entrusting us with starting the big handsome Huon. This gelding was a dream to start and has a big future ahead of him.. I heard a whisper he is headed to a new home and new adventures. We wish them all the very best together!

09.01.2022 Couple of nice Stockhorses went home yesterday. If anyone is looking for a typey, quiet big gelding this one is not to be missed.

09.01.2022 See ya Sambo, after his first four weeks learning to accept a rider he is about to head off to @gtsporthorses for the next part of his journey. Thanks Bec Arabec for putting another in my hands. My videographer got a bit creative

05.01.2022 Beautiful little Eskdale West Rugged Kid filly belonging to Wynola Performance Horses is about to finish her four week start. Quick final video for the year, all horses depart tomorrow and there will be a short break over Xmas and NY. Met some lovely people and great horses in 2019 looking forward to more of the same for 2020 but let’s hope it brings with it some rain.... Braeview Stock Horse Stud

04.01.2022 My darling girl has been back with Scott Jenkins for some work, and I couldn’t be happier with what Scott has been doing with Miss CJ. She’s had a few outings ...in 2019, but overall she hasn’t had much asked of her while she’s still growing. I’ve had her brought back into work by Scott with the plan to now keep her in consistent work and try to get to some more shows in 2020. She is my perfect girl See more

03.01.2022 How cool is this, Scroll down the page to see Huon when he was first started. Fantastic to see this update.

02.01.2022 HORSES CAN ABSOLUTELY SHUT DOWN Often the shut down horse appears as though he has run out of try, it’s like he’s run out of effort and ideas, he’s run out of ...contributing and has run out of wanting to be a part of whatever is going on. It’s like he’s hung up his brain and has stashed it for another time and place. After mentally quitting then he emotionally quits, after that his stride becomes poor as a result of a core that doesn’t seem to engage, he drags his toe and begins to look void in the eye. Mentally he’s quitting, physically he begins wasting, his haircoat turns up, he grows less foot, his eye looks distant and hollow and he begins to lose strength and tone in the muscle groups that he needs to be strong in order to be handy. There’s an old saying Don’t say don’t, say do. If we keep saying don’t don’t don’t to our horse then eventually he quits, what we have become is reactive, if we learn how to say do do do we will become affirmative (this in itself entails quite a bit) and before long we become something and someone that the horse can build confidence in and all of a sudden the horse develops just a small bit of confidence. Often that’s through kind repetition and after quite a bit of time. THE MAIN POINT OF THE POST Strangely it is often after the shutdown horse has changed the hands he’s in that he goes backwards for sometime, in particular if he’s allowed to thrive for a change of which is great OR if he is all of a sudden very spoilt of which is of no benefit to him at all. So often we see people that somehow see a horse come in to their care and for a while they will go backwards. It’s a very big job to help the shutdown horse, it takes a lot of time, patience, wide goal posts, small steps, lots of understanding and lots of realising small tries. The truth is, is that they become a product of their environment. Unfortunately when the improving shutdown horse appears to go backwards the pressure usually lifts or the judgements get stronger. Now I don’t think for a moment that some horses shouldn’t be quit on and I’m quicker to do that more now than ever. But if he’s not trying to hurt you and you have the time and knowledge to help him back then by all means do so. If you don’t have the knowledge but you do have the time don’t give up, do take the time and do find the help you need to help the shutdown horse but understand that he will often go backwards before he goes forwards and can take a long time to do so. He hasn’t necessarily been abused physically, he maybe just has never had the chance to think and find benefits from doing so. Don’t play the blame game, just try to understand where he is at. It’s about the importance of their personality coming out and it’s about their TRY THROUGH DESIRE. If it’s not and we are just to make robots then why do care about how they are bred, cause it nearly shouldn’t matter, if all we want is obedience. Try hard to be polite and try to be empathetic to the shutdown horse , more importantly be polite and empathetic before they’re ever shutdown and you’ll find they won’t get to that stage. It’s perfectly fine for them to try without resistance. It’s actually okay if they are willing to be a part of the picture. Again just my take on it, I reckon I see them often, nearly every where I go.

02.01.2022 An early morning for the final ride of this lovely Smarty’s High Card gelding. He’s just finished his 4 week start with us and has established the basics, ready for some miles at home with his owner. Thanks very much to John for sending him our way, we look forward to seeing you out and about with him. Smartys High Card #smartyshighcard #smartypants

01.01.2022 Check out this lovely ‘Lightjack Liberty Jack’ gelding destined for the Polocrosse fields. Testimony to this horse’s temperament I only introduced the racket and ball today on his final day (my first time with a racquet also, somehow I think his Polo-X future is much brighter than mine! ) He has had four weeks here to be started and is now due for a bit of a spell before coming back in a few months time....
