22.01.2022 It is terrific coming into the home straight of this by-election. The support received around the electorate on my many visits is both heart warming and humbling. The Poll on Saturday is not determined by the size of signage on roadsides, quantity of newspaper or TV ads or flag waving on street corners. It is determined by individual voters making an individual choice for the candidate who they would like to see represent our communities in State Parliament. The fact that... we have 8 quite different candidates to choose from is a good thing. Several people have argued to me, for various reasons, that we should have less! I disagree. Democracy relies on choices being given and the ultimate decision on who is successful should be left in the hands of the voters. I am pleased to be able to put myself in front of the voters and respect the other candidates for doing the same.
17.01.2022 I dropped in for morning tea at the Mya Mya Café in Poowong - hot topic was the byelection and the various candidates running - really good to see a high level of interest and people taking care to consider their choice on the 14th
16.01.2022 "IF THE National Party isn’t already worried about the Gippsland South by-election, it should be."
14.01.2022 Are you frustrated with the travel times while the duplication works are underway between Sale and Traralgon? We need commitment from Federal Government to the second half of the duplication and the speeding up of current works to lessen the inconvenience to our locals, tourists and businesses
12.01.2022 Out distributing some of our freshly made Smile badges - there should be plenty pinned to Yarram Variety Marketeers today!
12.01.2022 The Liberal Party in Victoria has a strong tradition of representing regional areas with the highest number of non-metropolitan Members of Parliament of any of the parties.
08.01.2022 New campaign office looking great
05.01.2022 I invited Ryan Smith, Member for Warrandyte and Shadow Minister for Roads and Infrastructure to South Gippsland to see first hand the poor condition of our local roads - in particular those maintained by Vic Roads. Ryan was left under no illusion that it was a serious community issue from the moment we arrived yesterday. One of our local bus drivers (pictured) saw my sign on my car - barrelled up to me and said "What are you going to do about our roads!" I replied, "inter...esting you should ask that" and introduced him to Ryan. The day was full of conversations like that and visits to various poor road locations throughout Foster, Leongatha and Korumburra. General observations made to Ryan was that the local council roads were OK (supported by the Coalition Country Roads and Bridges $160M program - now unfortunately dropped by the Labor Government) but the VicRoads roads are in strife - regular comments were that the patching didn't last long and the complete rebuilds often washed away as the drainage was not terribly well made. It was good to be able to highlight the roads - this side of the Strzelecki's seems often forgotten in Spring Street. We need strong local advocacy to keep banging the table to get action.
01.01.2022 Today I launched my Gippsland South Road Watch campaign. I’m asking locals to take a photo of the problem spot on a road in their local area and post the picture and the location on my Facebook page, so I can represent the needs of our community when it comes to safe travel here in Gippsland South If you want to get involved, all you need to do is take a photo of the problem spot, post it to my Facebook page and include the address so I can go and have a look.
