25.01.2022 Australia Reads This is my current reading list Love murder / mystery or a bit of intrigue .... some of these are new authors to me so they are a mixed bag .... Have always read and it would be a rare day that I don’t read something ( usually before sleep ) Every now and then I read a very sad book that makes you ugly cry and look like crap the next day cause you cried that much ..... The Good Mother is that book Have loved reconnecting with the local library , being able to order titles in on any subject and having a real book instead of a kindle ...... like the Olden days lol Cheers Cynthia #AustraliaReads #LibrariesTasmania #lovereading

21.01.2022 Australia Reads Taylor Clyne Editor, North Eastern Advertiser I’m currently reading something completely different to my usual style of murder mysteries, love stories or anything with a serious plot twist, turning the pages on Up the Duff: The Real Guide to Pregnancy. I laugh as I write this because it's quite comical reading a book about pregnancy being a first time mum but so far I’ve really enjoyed the humour of the writer Kaz Cooke and the realness in her accounts.... It talks about the scary parts, the funny parts and what the heck is going to happen to your private parts I’ve laughed my face sore on numerous occasions. Oh the joy of books and babies! 20.01.2022 The school holiday program at Scottsdale library was "learn about bees". A very informative presentation by Ron Hallawell gave the audience an insight into being an apiarist, the life cycle of bees and the amazing honey and products available.

19.01.2022 Tinker, tailor, soldier, silk weaver... These men were the first certified 'denizens' of Van Diemen’s Land. Denization conferred most of the rights of citizens...hip to ‘aliens’ (notably the right to pass on property to heirs) in exchange for their allegiance to the Crown and agreement to pay their dues ‘tot and scot’! It was later replaced by Naturalisation, which gave a person full rights as a citizen. Pictured is the documentation for Jesse Morrill, a blacksmith from New Hampshire, USA. Within the same records in our Tasmanian Archives - search for SC219/1/1 on www.libraries.tas.gov.au - you can discover documents for Augustus Kramer (a tailor from Germany), William De Gillern (a Major in the British army, originally from Germany), and John Mezger (a silk weaver from Germany). #tasmanianarchives #librariestasmania

18.01.2022 Australia Reads I feel very spoiled working in the library, where I have such a great choice of books. I was recently recommended Claire Bowditch’s memoir, ‘your own kind of girl’, so after hearing her on an ABC podcast a while back, I’ve borrowed it from my local library, along with ‘The Scarlet Pimpernel’a book I loved when I was in my early teens. It’s time to re-escape to the French Revolution and one of the first superheroes who had a secret identity!... I always loved the poem in The Scarlet Pimpernel: We seek him here, we seek him there, Those Frenchies seek him everywhere. Is he in heaven? Is he in hell? That dammed, elusive Pimpernel. 01.01.2022 I am currently busy reading Annual Reports & Legislation, which does not allow a lot of time for reading for pleasure. I enjoy reading anything Rachel Treasure and intend to read John Phelps book on teaching methods as this has been recommended by a friend. Hon. Tania Rattray MLC Independent Member for McIntyre
