15.01.2022 Today we remember the men and women who have served our country in times of war. While many Rovers and Leaders have served in the armed forces, younger scouts have also had a role to play. During World War II the NSW Scouts offered their services to the Government war efforts, with the Scouts tasked to provide a messenger service in case of communications failure. Training in first aid and air raid procedures was undertaken, and Scouts assisted as ‘patients’ for nurse tr...aining. They also collected materials for the scrap drives to source metal and rubber for the war effort. Scouts who did more than 50 hours to assist with the war effort earned the National Service award, signified by a red and white lanyard and red National Service badge. Photographs from the J X Coutts collection held by Scout Heritage NSW.
