24.01.2022 Day 4 Part 2 National Recycling Week Djerriwarrh Rovers in Victoria recently did a clean up of part of the hall of their home group, Bacchus Marsh Scouts. They aimed to re-purpose as much as they could, and have as little go to landfill as possible. They sorted things into reusable items for the group to keep, items to go to the op shop or for recycling at the local Waste Transfer Station (including old furniture), and the few items that had to go to landfill (the blue tub). ...The recyclable items included some eWaste (old vacuum and DVD player), 38 cardboard tubes, and stacks of old paper. They checked and stacked some camping gear and a few decades of Group records, and a sorted bag of Christmas craft items - just in time for the Joey Scouts or Cub Scouts to use in term four. Last step was taking the recyclable and reusable items to the Melton Transfer Station - these items can go there for free (there is a cost if you are taking items for landfill). With the space swept and vacuumed, it was back to being a usable space for all to access again. #NationalRecyclingWeek #Scouts4SDGs #SDG12 Scouts Australia Scouts Victoria

21.01.2022 Day 6 National Recycling Week Members of Amelia Heights Scout Group in WA are getting right into recycling at their hall. Check out the post below, where one of their leaders shares some of their recent adventures in recycling: practising separating out different plastics, creating their own Recycling Station in the hall, and exploring how they can become a #ZeroWasteScoutGroup! Share with us what you are doing at your group or campsite :-)... #NationalRecyclingWeek #Scouts4SDGs #SDG12 Scouts Australia Scouts WA

21.01.2022 One of the five aims of the World Scout Environment Badge states that scouts be prepared for natural disasters. With three states experiencing bushfires it would be useful to explore program ideas to help scouts to be prepared. Maybe helping wildlife could be part of this.

17.01.2022 Day 4 Part 1 National Recycling Week The last couple of days our focus has been on sorting recycling for kerbside collection and soft plastics for the supermarket. Now for the trickier items - eWaste, polystyrene, ink cartridges, batteries ... The library at the college where Annette (our National Adviser Environment) teaches has recycling stations for batteries and mobile phones. Officeworks has bins for ink cartridges and phones. Darebin City Council has the recycling sta...tion pictured at Bundoora Park Farm. Check out your council website for other recycling opportunities, or www.recyclingnearyou.com.au Sometimes a big clean up reveals lots of things to be recycled or reused - check out Part 2 of today’s post to see how one group managed it. #NationalRecyclingWeek #SDG12 #Scouts4SDGs

04.01.2022 This World Environment Day, let's all make time #ForNature #Scouts4SDGs

02.01.2022 In a month and a half, scouts and other community members will be out in our local environment for Clean Up Australia Day (Sunday 1 March). Are your Group signed up yet? As you work on your Unit plan for the term/year, #StepUpToCleanUp and include #CUAD2020 on your calendar. We have partnered with Clean Up Australia so all scout sites are listed on the page linked below - we'd love to see your Group join us

02.01.2022 We were overwhelmed by the great response across Scouts Australia this year, with hundreds of groups joining the #StepUp for Clean Up Australia Day this year. Scouts have taken part in this annual event for thirty years, getting out there with our community to help protect our waterways, bushlands and local environments. We've loved all of the great photos you have shared so far, with some already added to the album - please make sure you share yours (and a caption of who it... is and where) so we can capture the great efforts by Scouts across the country over the past few weeks. There is also still time to add your Group's Clean Up to the list - register here: https://www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/scouts-clean-up
