07.01.2022 Remembrance Day 2020 | Lest We Forget "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning... We will remember them." LEST WE FORGET ~ The Ode comes from For the Fallen, a poem by the English poet and writer Laurence Binyon and was published in London in The Winnowing Fan: Poems of the Great War in 1914. This verse, which became the Ode for the Returned and Services League, has been used in association with commemoration services in Australia since 1921. #remembranceday2020 #lestweforget #forthefallen #LaurenceBinyon

07.01.2022 We are lucky in Scouts to have some amazing adult role models from all walks of life that volunteer as Leaders and are excited and proud to mentor our youth. Cathy Foley AO, Joey Scout Leader with Scouts NSW, is currently the Chief Scientist for CSIRO and has this month been appointed as Australia's Chief Scientist effective from January 2021!!! She is well recognised in her field for her incredible service to research science, the advancement of women in physics, and to prof...essional scientific organisations - a true champion of science!! As a Joey Scout Leader, Cathy shares her love of science with her Unit to help broaden their views and experience with STEM in their life and community. She has been quoted as saying Scouting gives me the chance to get kids and their families into science. The Financial Review interviewed Cathy earlier this year about her role as a Joey Scout Leader in Scouts - it’s an interesting insight into why our Leaders do what they do, what they get out of it and a great read!! Congratulations from everyone at Scouts WA, Cathy, exciting times ahead for you professionally as well as for your Joey Scouts
06.01.2022 Esperance Scout Group held their Remembrance Day Service at the RSL Memorial this afternoon. It was a memorable night with their three newest Joey Scouts being invested into the Joey Scout Unit.
06.01.2022 2021 Nobel Peace Nomination | World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts Being nominated for an award is often just as meaningful as actually receiving it. Reading what people think about our amazing organisation is just and getting feedback that confirms what our youth learn and do is incredibly rewarding, it’s a great acknowledgment that we are in the right path.... Have a read of what the nominee, Norwegian Liberty Party MP, Solveig Schytz [former Chief Commissioner of The Guides and Scouts of Norway and a current volunteer for the Scout Movement] has to say about the impact of Scouting on the youth of today, the Workd around us and on herself when she was a child: Have a read of what Scouting and Girl Guides means to I have nominated the scouting and guiding movement, represented by World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and World Organization of the Scout Movement - WOSM for the Nobel Peace Prize. The scouting and guiding movement is built on empowering young people to be active citizens in their local communities and in the world. WAGGGS and WOSM bring together millions of boys and girls from across the globe to form international friendship. It`s a movement for young people from different cultures, religions and backgrounds. It`s a movement that promote leadership development in young people so they affect change in their communities and solve the challenges of tomorrow. At a time when the world is facing tremendous challenges like climate change, wars or a pandemic, we need a counterpoint to egoism and nationalism. The youth deserve an opportunity to contribute to society, locally and internationally. Peacebuilding is at the heart of Guiding and Scouting and is as vital and relevant today as for the last 100 years. It`s time to recognize the contribution of the scouting and guiding movement and young people around the world to building peace. I owe a great deal to the Scouting and Guiding Movement. From a very young age on, I have lived by Baden Powell’s parting credo to the Scouting and Guiding Movement: Try to leave this world a little better than you found it. I am sure this is an experience shared by many other Scouts and Guides. Source: Facebook Solveig Schytz
