15.01.2022 From Bega Valley Seed Savers Julie Davies writes ... Help Save Some Seed for Bega Valley Seedsavers (and get some free tomatoes/capsicums!) On Friday 2nd October, at the SCPA Markets, Bega Valley Seedsavers will be looking for volunteers to take some tomato and/or capsicum seedlings home to grow and save seeds.... This is the deal: you take some tomato and/or capsicum seedlings home and grow at least half the seedlings for seed (and you can eat the fruit from the other half). We will give you instructions for how to harvest and save the seeds when the fruit is ripe and return them to Bega Valley Seedsavers. Anyone can save seed from tomatoes because they are self pollinators, and you can save seeds from capsicum as long as you are not also growing chillies. Come along to the markets in Bega on Friday 2nd October from 9am - midday to have a chat and collect your free seedlings. Or for more information, contact Bega Valley Seedsavers on [email protected]

14.01.2022 **This is a RESCHEDULED EVENT** 2020 has certainly been more than we all bargained for. This event was originally scheduled in March by ‘SCPA - South East Producers’ and ‘From Little Things’ as a story about ‘HOPE' following the devastating bushfires, however due to the next challenge of a worldwide pandemic this sold out event had to be cancelled. Well, now it’s back on!! So if you have already purchased a ticket then you should have received an email from FanForce Screenin...gs with a couple of new options to choose from. 1) You can either choose not to attend and watch the film online OR 2) You will have been allocated one of two session times, either 6.00pm or 6.30pm for Monday 14 September 2020. The cinema has ample spacing for ALL ticket holders with a comprehensive plan for safety and precaution. We ask that you please use common sense and if you are unwell or have recently visited a current COVID-19 hotspot that you stay at home and do not attend. Any queries please comment below or call/text Nicky Harris on 0408447701

13.01.2022 Join a Community Growing Team - Wyndham, Kiah, Towamba, Bemboka, Quaama, Cobargo Ruta Kanepe writes: The Cobargo and Bega Valley Seed Savers groups, with funding support from Anglicare, will be starting a new Seedlings for Fire Recovery initiative in Spring to help people grow some healthy food for themselves and their families while they rebuild their gardens after the fires.... This will also give people an opportunity to learn how to grow seedlings for themselves so they can keep on growing vegies for their families for years to come, while developing greater resilience and food security for their communities. We are inviting fire affected communities to establish small teams (2-3 people) to grow seedlings and then distribute them within their own communities we will provide support (no previous experience required!), pots and punnets, and other materials needed. If you can spare up to 4 hours a week for 9-10 weeks (late August to early November) and would like to join a growing team in any of these locations: Wyndham Kiah Towamba Bemboka Quaama Cobargo please send an email by 31 July, with your contact details and including which community you are from, to Ruta at [email protected].

13.01.2022 Shared by Michael Shawn Fletcher: "Indigenous Plant Use" by Barkandji woman Zena Cumpston from the School of Ecosystem and Forest Sciences. It is for families, schools, community groups. Download it and get out in your garden today!... Such a powerful statement about the depth of knowledge in the Kulin Nations. Indigenous plant use In 2019, the University of Melbourne was transformed by the breathtaking influx of 40,000 Kulin Nation plants as part of the Indigenous-led event, The Living Pavilion. These plants were accompanied by signs, carefully researched and curated by Barkandji woman Zena Cumpston, which articulated the plants from an Aboriginal perspective and explored their cultural, nutritional, technological and medicinal use. The plant research was so popular that many participants contacted Zena wanting to access the information. The new 'Indigenous plant use' booklet was created so people could continue learning. In the booklet, you'll find information on more than 50 indigenous plant species displayed on labels that you can print and use in your own garden. https://nespurban.edu.au//2020/08/Indigenous-plant-use.pdf
