25.01.2022 Some Nice reports in Australia following the conclusion of worlds. Good to have positive news about scrabble in the wider community. 24.01.2022 Wonderful to see Graham Bell sweep to win the Joy Deans memorial Scrabble Comp. Really sad when we lost Joy a few years ago. I played her in my very first Comp ...in Australia when in Uni in the early 90s. Young 8 year old Tanissha gave a good account of herself with 3 wins. Her best return in a WA Comp. Benjamin Lee scored 212 for PROOFING, the current Australian record for 2019. I had an indifferent day going 4-3 with the highlight for me being able to pls the word LAVOLTS with a game score score of 494. Next Comp is the Youth fundraiser in Coogee in 14th April.... anyone in Perth interested in giving it a go let me know. Lots of scrabble clubs to try out too if you dont want to head straight to a Comp. See www.freewebs.com/scrabblewa/clubs.htm See more

21.01.2022 Nigel Richards at th world championships, Round 21 live starting now: https://www.twitch.tv/msa_tv

20.01.2022 35th anniversary tournament of the Rockingham Scrabble Club was held on Sunday with young Kaustav Bhowmick winning a Division for the first time ever with 6 win...s out of 7. A great sign for the world youth championships in Dubai in December where he will be representing Australia along with Adi, Sharvin & Rahul (All from Perth Modern School). In Div A, Russel Honeybun once more deployed the 'JJ' gambit, losing to Judy Jones in Round 1 before sweeping the rest of the field to win on 6 ahead of David Van Zyl on 5 and Chris pipping out Karen by a margin of 2 while on 4 wins. Div B was won by Benjamin Lee on margin over Louise Love with both on 6 wins with Robin in 3rd, with Delys Carbon and Marge Roberts also making the podium in Div C. I had a very forgettable day missing numerous chances I should have seen. Good thing I won one of the word prizes. Great to have Karen Richards there who flew in from Malaysia, and she had a special training session on Saturday with 8 WA kids all new to competitive scrabble! See more

18.01.2022 Final day of the WYSC was a tense affair for the Aussies and a top 30 spot was on the cards for both Shekinah and Rahul if they won their final 2 games ... With a possibility of breaking the top 50 open to Radheya and Kaustav if they won their final 3.... In the end, Shekinah won her final game to finish 46th and Rahul lost in a desperate final play on the final turn by 2 points after deducting the C he had left in his hand to finish just outside his target in 51st on 12 wins...... Radheya and Koko had some success in their final 3 and finished with 11 and 10 wins respectively. Sanchit Kapoor if the UAE took the overall win by a big margin over the chasing pack. Sri Lanka took 2nd and 3rd and the team title.Former world champ Jack Durand lost his final game and finished 6th and we had an American and 2 young lads from Pakistan in the top 10 also See more

18.01.2022 WEST AUSSIE REPORT - SCRABBLE WORLDS IN MALAYSIA The 6 West Aussies that formed part of the Australian team did us all proud with every single one achieving a personal best in terms of win totals at a world event, this being the biggest one ever with close to 200 participants! The one debutant at a worlds, 10 year old Shireeya bravely faced some of the top players in the world and was always cheerful, while fighting her way to 6 wins! Both Kaustav & Adi finished on 11 wins, b...eating their PB's by 1 and 2 wins respectively, and doing so in contracting fashions. Kaustav burst out of the blocks and after the first 6 games was the best placed Australian at 19th overall. Adi had an extremely tough time on day 2 and was on 5 wins after 18 games, but was the only layer in the entire field to win all 6 games on the final day to reach 11. Liana had 13 wins doing far better than some of the more experienced tournament players also winning the 5th best placed Australian prize, "I feel really delighted to have won 13 games as it's a big improvement from the last World Championships I participated in. I wouldn't have been able to do it without the huge amounts of support from parents, friends and coaches" said Liana. MENSA boy wonder Sharvin also finished on 13 wins, and was better placed than Liana on margin and was the 4th best Australian finisher at the worlds. He said, "I feel that I played well this tournament except for a few games which i definitely could have won or played better. But overall i believe i have improved significantly from the last WYSC and am looking forward to do better in the next one." Rahul playing in his 4th world championships, finally broke into the top 50 with 25th place overall and 15 wins, also taking the prize for 2nd best Australian finisher, losing out on top spot only on margin. "I owe a lot to mom and dad for doing well, and also coach Edie and the scrabble players in WA for supporting me all these years. I am really thankful to have finished well. In the past, I used to do really badly in the final few important games, but this time on the last day I won 5 of 6 and thats the reason I managed to reach and surpass the target!" See more
