25.01.2022 When musicians jam they play a song over and over again, practising different ways of playing until it lives and breathes through them. Thats where this idea of Bible Jamming comes fromplayfully reading a passage in groups until it inhabits you and becomes meaningful! Heres an idea of how each round can play out: First round: one person reads the passage through out loud 2nd round: everyone reads the passage, a verse each around the group (people can pass if they r...eally seem uncomfortable) 3rd round: someone starts and the next person picks up when/where the first stops (handing over) 4th round: cut in on (interrupt) one another.. mid-verse or wherever! 5th round: anyone cuts in OR hands over to each other 6th round: read only the dialogue (leave out narration or thoughts) 7th round: reading random verse(s) until someone reads the last verse The cutting in rounds can capture competitiveness in a fun way and encourage participation with a bit more choice. The repetition increases everyones retention of the passage, and re-reading helps the overall passage to take shape. 23.01.2022 Last months Performing Arts Camp Online was a smash hit! Heres a highlight from Nicki, one of the camps directors: "One highlight for me was when we did studied the Bible story of the Prodigal Son. We encouraged each camper to find a creative way to perform or express the parable or its themes. Each camper engaged in their own way and campers shared amazing performances and expressions, from a moving rubber-band sculpture to an improvised piano performance. It was super encouraging to see campers connect with the story and use it as the basis of a creative act whilst meeting online." 22.01.2022 Denise, one of our northern region Primary School chaplains, has made such a difference in her community. Heres a story that touches her heart, and ours I was helping a little Prep girl deal with the anxiety of leaving her mum each day. I felt like God gave me the idea to create a simple song for her. I wrote it down, we rehearsed it together, and she decorated it to take home and share with her mum. I suggested they both sing the song whenever it was time to separate. It worked! There have been no issues since and recently her teacher asked both of us to sing the song to the Prep class. It was only then I was told that this little girl absolutely loves music! 17.01.2022 New chaplain alert! Meet Sunny, our new school chaplain at Point Cook. He started his first week on the job last week, joining the rest of our chaplains in returning to school, continuing to support staff and students. We asked Sunny a few questions to learn a bit about him and his role... Q: What inspired you to become a chaplain? A: Ive worked in schools in the past, as well as with high-risk young people in Out-of-Home Care, and I feel that this is a great opportunity... to further students emotional, spiritual, social and educational development. Q: What has been your involvement with SU in the past? A: About 5 years ago I was Schools Intern and a volunteer. Since then Ive been a leader on Family Camps and MAD Camps, and now, Director for Secondary MAD Camp - a real passion of mine. Q: What was your first week on the job like? A: The school is awesome. The staff have been welcoming and supportive of myself, and I have enjoyed getting to know them and the students. It has been a lot of fun chatting with them at break times. Q: What are you most looking forward to? A: I love spending time with young people, hearing about their dreams and aspirations, helping them understand themselves and their world and achieve their goals. I am looking forward to the day I can walk through the school, knowing the name and story of every person I pass - students, teachers, office staff, cleaners, canteen workers - everyone!

12.01.2022 This Sunday is Fathers Day and traditionally we give Dads, and the significant men in our lives, a gift or a card to show them how much we appreciate them. God, our Heavenly Father shares with us the best gift we can give to love Him and to love others. Mark 12:30-31 says Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbour (that includes your Dad) as yourself. There... is no commandment greater than these. We can show someone that we love them in lots of different ways: doing something for them, doing things together, telling them why we love them, and giving them a hug or a gift. I wonder what creative ways you are finding to love others during lock down. Maybe this Fathers Day you could spend time with your Dad or a significant man in your life, sharing memories of things that youve loved doing together. If you live in the same house, you could look through old photos together and maybe even put a few of your favourite memories on display. You could also make a Creating Memories lista list of things youd like to do together, now or when restrictions lift. Try putting them in a jar and pull out one to do each week. There are so many activities you could do, from going on a picnic (even in your backyard), cooking or creating together, movie nights, bike rides, and more! Mark 12 also talks about loving God with all our heart, soul and mind. God loves to spend time with us too. You could spend time with God praying for your Dad or a significant man in your life, sharing what youre thankful for about him and asking God to give him what he needs for the future. For some of us, Fathers Day can be difficult. There may be grief or conflict. We pray that you know Gods loving arms are there to comfort you. For others its a day of great celebration and thankfulness. Fatherhood is a learning journey and we are praying for all men today. We value and appreciate you.

11.01.2022 "Students here are the children of bushfire survivors. This project is something I thought the community would connect with. I know that God has been part of this exciting project to welcome kids back to school and make their return really fun. For me, it’s such an incredible alignment of my passion, skills, training and values." Kerry, the SU Chaplain at Flowerdale Primary School, came up with the idea to create a student-designed community mosaic by the schoolyard sandpit. With help from the community and local businesses, this project is already having an impact. Read the full story here: https://www.suvic.org.au/latest-stor//11/flowerdale-mosaic

09.01.2022 Today is Dave Tolputts last day as Northern Regional Director and we are SO sad to see him go. Dave has a loooong history with SU, having served in just about every position over his 20 years on staff, including (*deep breath*) National Director, State Director, Regional Coordinator, Camp Director, SUFM Director, Theos Director, Schools Ministry Director, and SOAR Adventures Director! Well miss Dave, and pray Gods blessings over him, his wife Deb, and puppy Pastor Bud.E....Bhoy, as they move into this next season. Read on for a quick Q&A we did with him, and send your best to him in the comments below. Q: Tell us about your journey with SU over the years. A: My very first involvement was way back in 1973 as a 14 year-old at a beach mission in Western Australia. I became the National Director of SU in 2000, and was State Director of Victoria between 2004-2013. Then I moved into the Regional Coordinator role from 2017 until now. Q: How have you seen SU grow in that time? A: When I started, SU Victoria was much different. We had about nine staff in total, no chaplaincy, only one regional coordinator, and no Coolamatong. It grew a lot in that period, while the movements mission of raising up, equipping, and sending out volunteers remained absolutely core. Im so proud to leave the movement in a healthy position. Q: Tell us one funny story youve experienced in your time. A: Ha! Ok, so during one of the Community Based Adventure Camping (CBAC) programs, we took a camping group white-water rafting. The river was running wild, and had notorious spots ("The Devils Cauldon" and "The Gobbler") that all the experts knew were bad news. I had no idea about these spots, so I climbed in the raft and the first thing I remember is that we brushed a bush and about a dozen huntsmen fell out of the tree. So we were running around stomping huntsment on this rubber raft, while people were screaming and wanting to jump out. But as we approached "The Gobbler", they asked me to sit at the back to paddle hard if needed. But the water was so turbulent it flipped the boat and I went FLYING in the air, and disappeared under the water. And it was so quiet and dark underneath and I thought, "This is probably what dying is like." And then I was fished out, freezing cold, and everyone was grinning their face off.

09.01.2022 Over 100 of our summer missions and camps directors, safety officers, and bible engagement coordinators met together over Zoom today for training and resourcing. Its likely that our summer missions and camps will look different to what weve experienced before, so we talked, dreamed and imagined what summer might be like. We loved hearing thoughts and ideas about how we can bring hope and Good News to the people and places we might connect with over summer.

08.01.2022 "Three things will last foreverfaith, hope, and loveand the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthians 13:13 : Camp Coolamatong Got a verse that's giving you encouragement recently? Pop it in the comments, we'd love to share it for our weekly #WisdomWednesdays

08.01.2022 As home learning starts again, it could be helpful to talk with your kids about how you can work together to make it as successful as possible. Jesus talked about his plans with His followers, and God did too (look at the stories of Noah and Moses). They talked about expections and shared ideas. Kids love having input into how their world works and this is a great way to set expectations and hear what each person needs for support. Remember, adults have needs too, so make s...ure you share these as you chat. Part of your first home learning session might be writing or drawing your answers to the following questions on a big piece of paper divided up into four quarters. (You could write or draw the answer on a post-it note and stick on the page for something more fun.) What helped to get your home learning done last time? What did you find hard? What do you need for home learning can be successful this term? Can you include any things that helped last time? How will you help make that happen? To finish, you could pray together asking God to lead and guide you during these next weeks and/or make a poster sharing what you agreed on and stick it up somewhere as a reminder. See more

Stay Human by Michael Franti and Spearhead a stunning concept album about Americas death penalty, and a reminder of every persons beauty and humanity. Best track = Every Single Soul Q.
